金素月 詩의 파라독스 硏究

Abstract

素月 金 廷湜(1902-1934)은 岸曙 金 憶(1893-?)과 함께 民謠調의 定型詩를 試圖함으로써 우리 民族의 전통적 律格과 情緖를 구현하려 했던 新文學 初期의 民族詩人이다. 그는 當代의 頹廢的이고 自由詩的인 文壇傾向과는 달리 傳統的인 詩歌의 對象이었던 自然과 님에 대한 思慕의 情을 7.5調의 抒情詩로 노래함으로써 民謠詩人으로서의 자리를 굳혔다. 그래서 文學史的으로 볼 때 韓國의 新詩가 傳統詩와 관계지워져 있는 한 無視할 수 없는 한국 현대시의 파수병이라 볼 수 있다. 그는 당대뿐만 아니라 現代에 이르기까지도 넓은 共感帶를 形成하고 있는데 그간의 素月에 대한 硏究는 그 공감대를 형성하는 힘의 根源으로서 내용의 새로움을 밝히는데 주력했었다. 그러나 本 論文은 넓은 공감대를 형성하는 素月 詩의 우수성을 밝히는 하나의 方法上의 새로움으로서 브룩스(Cleanth Brooks : 1906-)의 파라독스(Paradox, 역설) 이론을 導入했다. 이 理論은 작품 자체의 分析 硏究가 文學 硏究의 가장 중요한 과제라는 뉴-크리티시즘(New Criticism)의 立場을 토대로 한 것이다. 詩의 言語한 과학의 言語와는 달리 언어의 辭典的인 外面的 意味를 끊임없이 파괴하는 想像力을 통한 파라독스의 언어임을 주장하는 것이 새로운 그들의 태도이다. 詩語와 日常的인 언어의 차이점을 밝히므로 方法과 태도의 변혁을 가져온 브룩스의 理論이야말로 素月 詩가 발휘하는 詩的 감동의 비밀을 밝힐 수 있는 하나의 접근점이라 여겨져 그의 詩 67篇을 대상으로 그의 詩에 나타난 파라독스의 諸 양상을 밝히려 하였다. 本論의 제 1章에서는 素月 詩에 나타난 파라독스의 理論的 根據를 알기 위해 파라독스의 根源的 發想이 되는 想像力 理論을 史的인 背景에서 고찰하고 空想과 想像力에 대한 코울릿지(Samuel Taylor Coleridge : 1772-1834)의 평가기준을 살핀 후 想像力이 現在의주요 詩 批評槪念이 된 아이러니(Irony), 엠비규이티(Ambiguity), 파라독스(Paradox)의 生成 過程에 미친 影響을 考察하였다. 제 2章에서는 素月의 評論〈詩魂〉을 分析함으로써 파라독스의 槪念을 利用하여 그의 作品을 分析하는데 대한 理論的 一致點을 밝혔다. 素月은 〈詩魂〉에서 創作上의 기본적 立場으로서 파라독스의 狀況을 提示하고 있으며, 創作原理에 대한 見解를 밝힘에 있어서는 詩魂과 陰影의 관계를 제시하여서 想像力의 表出이 象徵이라고 보는 코울릿지의 견해와 유사한 태도를 보이고 있다. 象徵의 발달이 파라독스 양식을 낳았음을 상기할 때 素月 詩에 대한 파라독스적 接近은 무리가 없는 것으로 思料된다. 이런 觀點으로 3章에서 분석한 결과 素月 詩에는 주체자/서술어의 파라독스 현상이 나타나고 있다. 세분하면 自然 敍述語의 對立(피다/지다), 心理 敍述語의 對立(기억하다/잊다), 그리고 行爲 敍述語의 對立(가다/오다)이라는 相衝되는 서술어가 나타나고 있었다. 둘째로 배경/대상(Scene/actor)의 파라독스를 찾아 볼 수 있는 바 非自然/自然, 非現實/現實, 否定的 現實/肯定的 行爲의 대립이다. 셋째로 時制의 파라독스를 찾아볼 수 있는데 현재/미래의 대립, 과저/현재의 대립, 미래/과거의 대립이라는 矛盾된 이중구조가 나타나고 있었다. 마지막으로 意味上의 파라독스 현상으로는 生/死의 對立, 사랑/실연의 대립을 찾아볼 수 있다. 이와같은 分析 結果 素月 詩는 파라독스 양식을 그 본질적 속성으로 삼고 있다는 결론을 내릴 수 있었다. 그리고 이러한 역설적인 양식이야말로 素月 詩가 넓은 共感대를 형성하고 있는 그 힘의 根源임을 발견하게 되는 것이다. 따라서 素月 詩의 평가는 작품 外在的인 批評 方法보다 작품 자체에서 출발한 문학 양식상의 비평 방법중의 하나인 파라독스의 觀點에서 볼 때 素月 詩의 우수성이 그 眞價를 드러냄을 알 수 있었다.;Among the modern poets, So-wol, Kim Chung Shik(1902-34), is regarded as the first noticeable national poet by giving new life to the traditional Korean metre and emotion in his characteristic rhythmed verses. Apart from the main trends tending to write free verses in a decadant atmosphere in his days, So-wol deals with his yearnings toward the Nature and the Lover, the traditional subjects of lyric poetry, in his 7-5 metre poems. In a word, he writes modern poems with the techniques and the spirit of Korean folk songs. From his day on his works have continually attracted much attention. And studies have been done to disclose the secret source of his poetic strength. This thesis is also an effort to define the nature of his poetic merits. For this purpose, I adopt one of the main arsenals of New Criticism, that is, the principle of paradox. New criticism, in spite of some defects, seems to me still much help for understanding poetry. It regards the literary work itself as the most important object of literary study and it assumes that the life of poetry comes from the many aspects of paradox in poems. I think this approach explains much of the secrets in So-wol's works. Thus, by analyzing So-wol's 67 poems, I probe deep into the aspects of paradox in his works. First of all, before studying the individual paradoxes in So-wol's works. I examine the principles on Imagination in literary history. Then, discussing the fancy and imagination of Coleridge, I study the modern critical concepts such as Irony, Ambiguity, and Paradox, the many influences Imagination has caused. Second, by studying So-wol's 〈poetic theory〉 I try to prove the theoretical validity of this paper through analyzing his works assuming concept of paradox. So-wol, in his theory of poetry, presents the paradoxical situation as a fundamental attitude of creative activity, and shows the similar attitude to the Coleridge's viewpoint that the expression of Imagination becomes the symbol. By analyzing the works through this perspective, on section 2 in chapter 2 I found out the paradoxical situation between the subject/predicate. In detail, there are the contrasts of Natural predicate, such as, blossom/fall, of Psychological predicate, remember/forget, and of Behavioural predicate, go/come. And there is also the paradox between the background/object. They are the contrasts of Non-nature/Nature, of Reality/illusion, and of Negative reality/Affirmative behavior. And finally there is the paradox of meanings that are the contrasts of Life/Death. and of Love/Dejection. Therefore in conclusion, the paradoxical style is the essential attribute of So-wol's poetry. The style is the very source of wide appeal of his works. So the appreciation and evaluation of So-wol's poetry is more clearly revealed his poetic superiority by internal criticism that highly evaluates the work itself approaching through the paradoxical perspective than by the external criticism.
