Gerhart Hauptmann의 Bahnwarter Thiel에 있어서의 Idee와 Trieb의 世界

Abstract

This paper's purpose is to show idea and appetite in connection with alienation problem in the Flagman Thiel which is written by Gerhart Hauptmann. In the Flagman Thiel, Gerhart Hauptmann let protagonist experience the realms of idea and appetite that human always confronts and wanders about. Protagonist, Thiel symbolizes human itself who always wanders in the two realms Minna, his first wife implys the realms of spirit. On the contrary Lene, his second wife means the realms of appetite. The former, there is stillness, peace and stability. The latter, but there is coarseness and strange passion. He takes a second wife to bring up Tobias, who is a product of between he and Minna. But he perceives the fact that he has become a slave of passion which she has, making every efforts to escape from it. Lene is not a merely conception of bad wife and stepmother. It becomes a prominent figure as a discriminating world from Minna who would like to belong, the driving force of lives. Thiel believes that Minna is a kind of realm of God. Thiel stays in mental world with God most closely when he is at the post of uninhabited woods. From there, he has a chance of meeting Minna and was purified by it. Thus, as everyone who has god in his inside, so he can live regardless of what kind of outside pang. And his only existence of spiritual World- it exists in his realm - is a Tobias who is a child by his first wife. But the fact that he is being assimilated gradually by Lene, Making him struggle endlessly is due to his self consciousness. It is also an endeavour to escape from the realms of appetite. Eventually he wants to pass time quickly from the post that he has thought meeting place for his dead wife. Because he is dying to go home - Lene's place - quickly. As it were, he does a double life. Namely, it is the world of his dead wife when he stays at the post, on the other hand, it is that of Lene when he does at home. But his soul wants the spiritual florid of Minna. He thinks that Tobias is his vision and the highest aim of his mental world. This story shows as follows, owing to Lene's mistaker, Tobias died of a train accident, because of Tobias death Thiel can not be relieved completely. The concept of God - as for him, it was the prime mover in his life - disappears from his life. It seems that it is a relievable way for him to oppose the outside power, deprived him of the concept of God. He commits murder in mental disorder condition. In the process of being transferred from the psychopathological treatment department of charity hospital to the preliminary lock up, all the time he holds cap in his arm quite carefully, which has been kept since murder. It is his final relief to do so. We also see evident subconsciousness that may be shown in mental disorder. That is to say, the cap symbolizes the world to which he wanted to belong. Gerhart Hauptmann은 小說보다는 희곡을 主로 썼다. Goethe가 그랬듯이 小說은 副業(Nebenneruf)에 속한다고 말하였다. 小說은 그의 全作品에서 볼 때 작은 比重에 불과하지만 그의 自然主義的 心理 小說은 獨逸 自然主義 小說에 있어서 Gerhart Hauptmann의 위치를 중요하게 만들고 있다. Gerhart Hauptmann은 Bahnwarter Thiel에서 人間이 恒常 直面하고 彷徨하는 Idee와 Trieb의 두 世界를 主人公 Thiel을 통해 體驗하게 하고 있다. 이 作品은 人間의 根本 問題에 부닥치게 하고 있다. 즉 Thiel은 두 개의 世界에서 恒常 彷徨하는 人間 自體를 象徵한 것이다. Thiel이 結婚하여 死別한 Minna는 Idee 世界인 精神 世界를 意味하고, 즉 Minna에 속해 있을 때 그는 Utopia를 사는게 된다. 그러나 두 번째 부인 Lene는 그 反對 槪念이 낳는, 人間의 地獄을 낳게하는, 慾望(der Trieb)의 世界이다. 前者에는 靜寂과 平和와 安靜이 있는 反面, 後者에는 거칠음과 이상한 情熱이 있다. 그 世界는 强한 疎外感에 빠지게 한다. 그는 精神 世界를 意味하는 Minna와의 産物인 Tobias를 키우기 爲해 두 번째 婦人을 맞이한다. 그러나 그는 그 女人이 갖고 있는 情熱의 노예가 되어감을 깨닫고 그곳에서 헤어 나오려는 안간힘을 쓴다. Lene는 단순희 Tobias를 괴롭히는 繼母의, 즉 몹쓸 婦人의 槪念만이 아니다. 그가 소속하고 싶은, 그가 살아가는 原動力이 되는, Minna와 區別되는, 그 世界를 침식하는 거센 慾望(der Trieb)의 世界로써 擡頭된다. Thiel에게 있어 Minna는 일종의 神의 領域이다. Thiel이 가장 神과 가까이 Idee 世界에 머물러 있는 瞬間은 外界와 떨어진 人跡드문 숲속의 哨所에 있을 때다. 그는 그곳에서 Minna와 만남의 世界를 갖고 그것으로써 그는 淨化된다. 그리하여 內部에 神을 가진 모두가 그렇듯이 그는 어떠한 外部의 苦痛쯤은 無關하게 지낼 수 있다. 그리고 그에게 있어 유일한 그 精神 世界인 自己의 領域에 살아있는 存在는 自己 前妻 所生인 Tobias다. 그러나 그는 차츰 Lene가 갖는 世界로 물들여지는 自己에 對한 自覺에서 끊임없는 鬪爭을 한다. 그건 慾望(der Trieb)의 世界를 벗어 나려는 努力이기도 하다. 그는 드디어는 죽은 아내와의 만남의 場所로 생각하고 있는, 그 哨所에 있는 時間이 빨리 지나가길 바라게 된다. Lene에게 즉 Lene의 世界로 빨리 가고 싶어서다. 그리하여 그는 哨所에 있는 時間은 죽은 Minna-Idee 世界-의 世界, 집에 있는 時間은 Lene에 속한 世界로써 二重의 生活을 하는데 Lene에 속한 生活은 恒常 그의 意志(der Wille)에 反한 世界로써, 그 世界에 對한 不快感을 씻어 주고 그를 慰安해 주는 役割은 前者의 世界가 한다. 그리고 그에게 있어 Tobias는 그의 꿈이며 그의 Idee 世界가 주는 最高의 目標로써 생각한다. Lene로 因한 疎外感으로부터의 救援이기도 하다. 그리하여 그는 Tobias가 成長하는 것이 커다란 기쁨으로써, Tobias와의 對話中에 그애가 커서 무엇이 될 것인가를 붇고 答을 들을 때 그는 가장 큰 幸福感에 사로잡힌다. 그러면서도 그런 Tobias를 虐待하는 繼母인 Lene 앞에서 그는 無力해진다. der Trieb의 힘으로써 Lene는 그를 벌써 지배하고 있었다. Lene의 잘못에 依해 Tobias가 列車事故로 죽음으로 해서 Thiel은 完全히 救濟될 수 없음을 보여 준다. 그에게 있어 살아가는 힘이 돼 주었던 神의 槪念은 모두 없어져 버린 것이다. 그에게 그 槪念을 剝脫한 外部의 힘에 對抗하므로써 救援될 듯 해진다. 그리하여 그는 殺人(Lene와 Lene 어린아이)을 精神異常 狀態에서 저지른다. 豫審留置場에서 慈善病院 精神科에 移讓되어서까지 繼續 殺人以後 가지고 있었던 -여기서 殺人은 그가 갖고 싶은 世界를 막는 外勢를 去勢한 形態로 擡頭된다.- Tobias의 모자인 것 같은 갈색 모자를 아주 소중히 안고 있다. 그것이 Thiel에게 있어 마지막 救援인 것이다. 精神 異常中에 나타날 수 있는 뚜렷한 潛在意識을 우리는 본다. 즉 그가 속하고 싶었던 世界를 그 모자는 象徵하는 것이다. 이렇게 Gerhart Hauptmann은 Bahnwarter Thiel을 通해서 人間의 根本的인 두가지 世界인 Idee世界와 Trieb 世界를 Minna와 Lene를 通해서 보여준다. Idee 世界를 永遠히 指向하면서도 Trieb 世界를 떠나지 못하는 人間의 永遠한 疎外 問題를 보여 주고 있다. Idee 世界와 Trieb 世界, 이 둘을 어떻게 조화할 것인가, 그리고 그 兩者의 世界에서 彷徨하는 人間의 疎外 問題는 어떻게 解決할 것인가. 自己 存在의 確信없는 삶처럼 疎外된 삶은 없다. 그러나 Gerhart Hauptmann은 이러한 問題에 對해 直接 對答하려하지 않는다. 그것은 영원히 人間 각자의 課題이다.
