Bela Bartok의 피아노곡 "Out of Doors"에 나타난 민속 음악적 요소

Abstract

Bela Bartok(1881-1945)은 20세기 초기 민족주의 정신을 바탕으로 하여 남동유럽 민속 음악에 대한 수집 연구와 이를 토대로 그 자신만의 독창적인 방법으로 서구 전통 음악 양식과 민속 음악을 조화시킨 헝가리 작곡가이다. 그는 민속 음악을 그의 작품 자료로 활용했는데 "야외에서의 음악(Out of Doors)"에는 그의 이러한 특성이 잘 나타나 있는 작품이다. 본 논문에서는 Bartok의 피아노곡 "Out of Doors"에서 민속 음악적 특징이 어떻게 나타나 있는가를 연구해 보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 구체적인 연구의 내용으로 서론에 이어 제2장에서는 헝가리 역사에 나타난 Bartok의 민족 음악관을 살펴보았고, 제3장에서는 Bartok의 음악에 나타난 민속적 특징을 고찰해 보았다. 그리고 제4장에서는 "Out of Doors"에 나타난 민속 음악적 요소를 선율, 리듬, 화성면에서 분석하여 악보와 함께 제시하였다. "Out of Doors"는 Bartok이 1926년에 작곡한 작품으로 선율, 리듬, 화성면에서 민속 음악적 요소가 잘 나타나 있는 곡이며, 표제가 붙은 묘사적인 5곡의 성격 소품(Character Pieces)이다. 제1곡 '피리와 북(With Drums and Pipes)'은 북의 타악기적인 음색효과를 피아노에서 표현하기 위해 민요적인 선율위에 장, 단2도, 9도화음을 사용하며, 피리(Pipe)의 음색 효과는 레가토(Legato)의 옥타브(Octave) 선율로 나타낸다. 또한 주제의 중심음 이동은 헝가리 민요 선율의 형식구조 영향을 받아 완전5도 내에서 이루어진다. 제2곡인 '뱃노래(Barcarolla)'는 아르페지오(Arpeggio)의 오스티나토(Ostinato)반주로 파도의 출렁이는 모습을 묘사하며, 느린 뱃노래 선율은 헝가리 민요 선율에서 흔히 들을 수 있는 완전4도 도약음을 사용하여 진행한다. 그리고 유럽 민속 음악의 영향을 받아 파도에 흔들리는 배의 느낌을 잦은 박자의 변화로 나타낸다. 데3곡 '뮈제트(Musettes)'는 뮈제트라는 민속 악기의 음향 효과를 연속적인 2도, 9도의 32분 음표 반진행 트릴(Trill)로 나타내며, 뮈제트 악기의 지속 저음(Drone Bass)효과는 완전5도 음정으로 이루어진 지속음으로 표현한다. 그리고 뮈제트 악기의 음향 효과를 나타내는 부분과 목가풍의 춤곡을 연상시키는 부분은 서로 다른 템포(Tempo)로 진행되는데 이는 시골의 목가적인 분위기를 템포의 변화로 표현한 것이다. 제4곡 '밤의 음악(Musiques Nocturnes)'은 피아니시모(pp)의 군집음(Tone Cluster)을 글리산도(Glissando)효과로 사용하여 조용한 여름밤 풍경을 묘사하며, 아랫 성부의 군집음 오스티나토위에 다양한 리듬의 반음계및 단2도, 9도 화음은 벌레들의 울음소리, 날개짖, 속사이는듯한 자연의 소리를 묘사한다. 제5곡 '추적(The Chase)'은 아랫 성부의 오스티나토 음형과 윗 성부 선율의 리듬 변화, 그리고 다이내믹스(Dynamics)의 변화로 추적의 급박함을 표현한다. 연속적이고 빠른 오스티나토 음형위에 좁은 음역에서 피아노(p)로 시작되는 ♪♪♪ 리듬의 온음 음계 선율이 넓은 음역에서 불가리아 리듬 영향을 받은 교차리듬(Cross Rhythm)의 단2도로 밀집된 포르테(f) 2연음부 9도 화음으로 변화, 발전하여 추적하는 모습을 묘사한다.

;This study is attempted to examine Bela Bartok’s musical folk idioms which is expressed in his piano pieces “Out of Doors”. It is cycle of five programmed pieces : With Drums and Pipes, Barcarolla, Musettes, Musiques, Nocturnes, and Chase. As a background of the study, Bartok’s Musical Nationalism in the history of Hungary is examined as well as some features of the folk music in Hungary and the neighbor countries. Finally “Out of Doors” are analyzed in terms of its form structures and the musical idioms to figure out the characteristics of folk elements. The musical examples are illustrated whenever nessessary. The first piece “With Drums and pipes”, as the title implies, Bartok mainly use percussive Major and minor 2^(nd) and 9^(th) to describe the effects of Drums. The movement of main theme-influenced by the musical structures of Hungarian folk tunes-is shifted withing the interval of 5º. The second piece "Barcarolla", is a boat song. The slowly moving theme is constantly accompanied with arpeggiated ostinato passage representing the waves throughout the piece. The time signature is changed frequently such as 6/8, 7/8, 5/8, 7/8, 5/8, 3/4, and the ostinato themes are shifting mainly to perfect 4^(th) which are usually seen in the Hungarian folk song. In the third piece “Musettes”, Bartok imitates the sound of folk instrument Musettes by means of trills played by 2^(nd) and 9^(th) together. Trills are appeared in the contrary motions and expands to double, triple, and quadruples. He also expressed the rural atmosphere with folk tunes in various tempos in this piece. In the fourth piece “Musiques Nocturnes”, 4 notes Tone Clusters are frequently used to imitate the nature’s sounds in the quiet summer night of the Hungarian countryside. The sound of frogs, birds, shaking leaves are expressed in chromatic passages 2^(nd) and 9^(th) intervals and changing rhythms with the background sounds of arpeggiated Tone Cluster. In the fifth piece “chase”, scene is described by dynamics, rhythms.
