李鈺의 「傳」 硏究

Abstract

韓國文學史에서는 漢文學을 지배층의 文學, 귀족문학으로 취급하여, 전통적인 國文學의 맥락에서 除外시키고 있는 경향이 있다. 本 論文은 漢文學이 국문학 전반과 유기적인 관계를 맺고 있음을 前提로 하여, 漢文學의 傳統的 樣式인 「傳」에 나타난 作家意識을 살펴본 것이다. 대상작품인 李鈺의 「傳」은 傳說과 民譚 등의 說話를 受容함으로써 民間意識을 作品 속에 담고 있다. 李鈺의 人物과 文體에 대해서는 序에서 간략하게 서술하고, 2章에서는 「傳」의 변모과정을 통해 李鈺의 「傳」이 國文學史에서 차지하는 위치를 살펴보았다. 「傳」의 形式은 史傳에서 비롯되어 큰 변화없이 이어져 내려왔으나 各 時代別로 특징적인 성격을 가진다. 高麗末에는 假傳體가 발달되었고 朝鮮에 가서는 人物中心의 傳이 우세하여 小說創作에 대응되는 역할을 하기로 했으며, 後期에는 이야기 中心의 「漢文短篇」이 유행하게 되었다. 李鈺의 作品은 創作文學의 性格과 說話採錄의 구실을 아울러 지니고 있어서, 國文學史 上에서 燕岩 朴趾源과 李朝後期 漢文短篇의 中間에 위치하는 것으로 파악된다. 3章에서는 李鈺의 「傳」에 나타난 說話의 受容樣相과 함께 說話가 갖는 意味를 밝혀 보았는데, 대체로 說話를 통해 자신의 世界觀 및 存在論을 전개시키는 것으로 나타났다. 4章의 作家意識 考察에서는, 作家의 理想과 現實的 삶 사이의 갈등이 民間信仰과 결합하면서 超越的 存在論으로 전개되는 양상을 살펴보았다. 그의 超越的 存在論은 現實의 否定이나 도피가 아니고 現實空間의 擴大로서 現實에 대한 깊은 관심을 표현한 것이다. 李鈺의 「傳」에 나타난 說話受容의 의의는 단순한 素材의 선택에 있는 것이 아니라, 庶民계층에서 긍정적인 인물을 찾고 그를 통해 作家意識을 庶民意識과 접맥시킨 점에 있다고 본다. 知識層 文學인 「傳」에 나타난 作家意識이 韓國의 文化傳統과 現實에 밀착된 모습으로 나타나는 사실은 漢文學이 中國文學의 亞流일 뿐이라고 생각하던 初期 國文學者들의 편견을 불식시켜줄 것이며, 中國을 배경으로 한 古代小說보다 훨씬 큰 國文學으로서의 意義를 지닌다고 할 수 있다.;In the history of Korean Literature, Sino-Korea Literature of the intelligentia is recognized as something different from the Oral Literature which is the product of the common people's desire for literary expression. Thus the two forms of traditional literature seem to have been understood to be impossible to connect. As a part of the effort to overcome this disconnection, the characteristics of the acceptance of the folklores which are abundant in the traditional form of Sino-Korean Literature called Jun (傳) are studied In this paper. tee Ock (李鈺)'s Jun is dealt with. He attempts to express the consciousness of the class of rank and file by inserting legends and folktales into Jun which was traditionally used to express the consciousness of the ruling class. The objectives of the present study is introduced in chapter I. The place of tee Ock's Jun in the history of Korean Literature is observed in the next chapter. In chapter III, the meaning of the folklores and the characteristics of their acceptance that are found in tee Ock's Jun is expounded. In chapter IV, the writer's consciousness is considered. It is seen that the conflict between the ideals and the real life of the writer, through the fusion with the folk religion, is developed into a belief in the transcendental being. His dualistic world-outlook of real and transcendental beings is not a negation of the reality, but an expression of the positive realism by expanding the realms of the reality. The true significance of the acceptance of folklores found in Lee Ock's Jun is not in his choice of simple sources but in his attempt of drawing writert s consciousness closer to the consciousness of the rank and file through the positive character he sought out in the class of rank and file.
