Giraudoux의 作品에 나타난 美學에 대한 硏究

Abstract

In the history of 20th centry's french Literature, Jean Giraudox established a remarkable standing with his fantastic novels and tragedies. Hs was very active in writing works bettween the two World Wars. He was trying his best to search for the matter of human substance, how to overcome the vanity brought on from the war and the desperate feelings in the time of unstability and chaos. In the human society exposed by the extreme cireumstances created by the war, he found an awakward, illiberal humanity and an finiteness in the huaan order of justice, truth, love and etc. He desired to return to the world - probably the Edenic world e.g.cosmic life - that, was formed before the fall of- human being with his substantial insincerity. This was what had made him to search for the correspondence and harmony between human and cosmos. And for such a correspondence actually being made, he emphasized that, above all things, the cosmic vision should be needed while escaping from the finite humanity. At the same time, he tried to seek for something to mediate in nature, inhumanity and super-man for the union of human and cosmic life. He was not interested in common and usual world, but searched for a secret knot between man and the unknown world. In his art, therefore, poetic knowledge and symbolic syntax were naturally required. "Poetic knowledge" is an important subject of my thesis, and I would make a study, with his drama "Intermenczzo" written when he was working most actively as a writer, how he had developed his poetic knowlodge on his works.
