A Model Korea-China-Japan Free Trade Agreement and SK Telecom's Business Strategy in China

Abstract

이 논문은 중국의 이동통신 부문과 중국에서의 SK Telecom의 이동통신 사업을 검토하고 한국-중국-일본 FTA가 SK Telecom의 사업 전략에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 우선 이 논문은 한-중-일 FTA에 대한 배경을 설명하고 그 다음에 중국의 이동통신 산업과 SK Telecom의 상업을 SWOT 분석을 통해 고찰한다. 마지막으로 한-중-일 FTA가 SK Telecom의 중국 사업 전략에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 이 논문은 중국의 이동통신 부문이 여전히 중국 정부의 영향을 받고 있으며 외국인 기업들에게 많은 제약이 남아 있음을 시사한다. 한-중-일 FTA는 이러한 제약을 보완하여 SK Telecom에게 특히 투자면에서 많은 혜택을 안겨 줄 것이다. 이러한 혜택으로 SK Telecom은 우선적으로 중국 시장에 진입할 수 있을 것이다. CDMA 시장을 확장하고 중국 소비자들에게 홍보 활동을 하면서 SK Telecom은 중국 정부와 긴밀한 협력을 도모하여 효과적인 사업 기회를 포착해야 할 것이다.;This thesis examines China's mobile communications service sector and SK Telecom's business in China, and analyzes the impact of a model Korea-China-Japan FTA on SK Telecom's business strategy. The thesis first provides background information on a model Korea-China-Japan FTA and then moves on to discuss China's mobile communications service sector and SK Telecom's mobile service business through a SWOT analysis. Finally, the implications of a three-way FTA on SK Telecom's business strategy in China are discussed. This thesis points out that China's mobile service sector is still strongly influenced by the Chinese government with many restrictions on foreign players. However, a Korea-China-Japan FTA would provide benefits to SK Telecom, mainly in terms of investment liberalization. With such an advantage, SK Telecom would be able to position itself as the first-mover and facilitate its entry into the Chinese market. While expanding the CDMA market and marketing to Chinese consumers, SK Telecom should also foster close cooperation with the Chinese government in order to develop better business opportunities in China.
