dc.description.abstractThis study was carried out on the laundering of soiled cotton fabrics using domestic soaps and syndets. The desized white cotton fabrics was soiled with the standard artificial soil which contains carbon black in a mixture of oil, fats and carbon tetrachloride. The washing was operated by the Launder Ometer which is a tumble type washer. in order to find out the optimum washing conditions, it was measured the degrees of whiteness (reflectance) of washed swatches under the various conditions such as washing temperature, washing time, concentrations of detergent baths, and presoaking time in water or soapy water, etc. The optimum conditions of washing were found. 1. The best whiteness was shown from the reflectances of washed swatches in 0.3% synthetic detergent at 80℃ for 30 minutes. 2. Fresoaking in water or soapy water and prewashing in water prior to washing were shown higher degree of whiteness on those swatches.-
