C. Franck의 Organ Chorales에 관한 연구

Abstract

C?sar Franck(1822-1890) was the greatest organ composer of the French School in the nineteenth century. He was a Belgian by birth, but French by education and adoption. He lived in Paris as an organ professor at the Paris Conservatoire and as organist at the St. Clotilde Church, and as a Church musicians, he composed several works for Organ. This paper first considers the reason for the emergence of the Chorale in the German Protestant Church and the meaning of Organ Chorale and the various forms of Organ Chorale-Chorale Variation, Chorale Fantasy, Chorale Prelude and Chorale Fugue in order to understand the significance of his organ chorales. In the next place, Franck's life and compositions in general are examined. And the organ of St-Clotilde Church where Franck was an Oranist for thirty two years, his nine organ works are briefly commented on, finally his three Organ Chorales are treated separately and in detail, as to their form, harmonic analysis, and tone color, etc. Through this detailed study, the great artistic worth and superiority of his three Organ Chorales may be discovered.;C?sar Franck ( 1822~1890 ) 는 19세기 프랑스악파의 가장 위대한 오르간곡 작곡가이다. 그는 Belgium ( 벨기에 ) 태생이지만 프랑스에서 교육을 받고, 프랑스에 귀화한 프랑스인이다. 그는 Paris Conservatoire ( 파리 음악원 )의 교수로서, St. Clotilde 교회의 오르가니스트로서, 또 교회음악 작곡가로서 Paris ( 파리 ) 에 살면서 여러 오르간 작품을 썼다. 본 논문에서 필자는 먼저 그의 Organ Chorales의 의미를 이해하기 위하여 독일 Protestant ( 개신교 ) 교회에서 Chorale 이 생기게 된 이유와 Organ Chorale의 정의 및 다양한 형식들 즉 Chorale Variation, Chorale Fantasy, Chorale Prelude, 그리고 Chorale Fugue등에 대해서 알아 보았고, 이어서 그의 생애와 일반적인 작품 및 음악적 특징에 관해서도 살펴보았다. 또한 Franck가 약 32 년간 오르가니스트로 있었던 St. Clotil-de 교회의 오르간과 그의 오르간 작품 9곡에 대해 간단하게 언급한 후, 마지막으로 그의 Organ Chorales 3곡의 형식과 화성분석, 음색 등에 대해서 각 곡마다 자세히 연구하였다. 이 자세한 연구를 통하여 그의 Organ Chorales의 위대한 예술적 가치와 우수성을 발견할 수가 있었다.
