조각보를 응용한 직물디자인 연구

Abstract

Present art that has undergone many changes in time and society takes various expressional ways as well as various forms. At the end of the 20th century, various artistic modes coexist, and lots of experiments on expression are continuously being conducted. However, we can find timeless common features in abundant amount of expressional mode. Regardless of time or nationality, one nation's art can show the beauty and uniqueness inherent in it when the thought, ideology, and sincere, honest emotions of its people underlying its living environments are formatively exposed. The author of this study regarded tradition as the foundation of creation and borrowed the motive of her work from patchwork wrapping cloths. At first, the author investigated the general characteristics of wrapping cloths made in Chosun Dynasty to define the concept of wrapping cloth, the origin, and the variety and attempted to apply such design elements of wrapping cloth as plane composition and color arrangement to her study of textile design. To compose planes more effectively, summer and winter weaving technique was chosen. And the results of this study are as follows : First, the diverse formativity in the patchwork wrapping cloth is very adequate for studying textile designs to heighten the value added. Second, application of patchwork wrapping cloth in the attempt to use various materials and in the study of its weaving could be helpful for the development of new textile designs. Third, summer and winter weaving is a technique that enables us make more decorative and freer patterns. In this study, free expression of pattern change has not been effectively attempted. Also in using color, the choice was somewhat limited since the author didn't use traditional dyeing methods. If further studies overcome these problems, the effective value and value added of design will become high. Like this, studying our traditional patchwork wrapping cloth is not only transmitting the tradition but also seeing our ancestors' superior aesthetical sense and formative world. The author of this study feels something wanting as she couldn't fully realize what she intended to express in her work. But she was able to recognize anew the importance of tradition and have a chance to look herself back, and now she expects her study could provide some useful ideas for the comtemporary textile industry.;오늘날 시대와 사회의 변천에 따라 많은 변화를 거쳐온 예술은 다양한 형태와 함께 여러 표현방식을 띠게되었다. 20세기말의 현재는 다양한 미술양식이 공존하면서 표현의 새로운 실험이 계속 추구되고 있다. 그러나 그 많은 표현 양식속에도 개인과 문화, 시대를 초월하여 공통된 유사성을 발견할 수 있다. 어느 시대, 어느 민족이든지 그들의 생활 환경 속에서 연연히 흐르고 있는 사상과 이념 그리고 성실하고 꾸밈없는 심성이 조형적으로 표출되었을 때, 비로소 그 민족만이 지닌 본연의 아름다움과 독창성을 보여 줄 수 있는 것이다. 독창성은 뛰어난 예술가들에 의해 창조된 작위적인 예술품에서만 보여지는 것은 아니다. 의도하지 않은 독창성은 더욱 깊은 호소력으로 우리를 감동시킨다. 우리의 전통 생활용품 중 조각보도 이러한 탈 기교(脫技巧)적인 제작의도에서 오는 조형성을 살펴 볼 수 있다. 본 논문은 창조의 기초를 전통에 두고 그 모티브를 조각보에서 찾으려 하였다. 먼저 조선조 조각보에 담겨진 일반적 특성을 통해 보의 개념, 발생배경, 종류 둥을 조사하고, 조형적 특성으로 면 구성, 색채둥을 디자인 요소로 분석하여 직물디자인 연구에 응용해보고자 하였다. 조각보의 면 구성을 효과적으로 돕기 위해 썸머 앤 윈터직 (summer and winter weave)을 선택하였다. 조각보에 나타난 면 구성은 전통적이면서도 현대적 감각의 조형성을 구성하고 있어 연구 개발 가치가 충분하며 직물디자인 연구에 적용 할 수 있다. 또한 전통미를 현대화하여 한국미의 고유성과 보편성을 발전 시켜 고부가가치 상품화 할 수 있는 주제라고 생각하였다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 조각보의 다양한 조형성은 고부가가치를 지닌 직물디자인 연구에 충분히 적절한 특성을 지니고 있다. 둘째, 조직 연구와 다양한 소재 사용의 시도에 따른 조각보의 응용은 직물디자인의 새로운 발전의 가능성에 도움이 될 수 있을 것이다. 셋째, summer & winter weave는 좀 더 자유롭고 장식적인 패턴의 효과를 볼 수 있는 기법이다. 본 연구에서는 자유로운 패턴변화의 표현이 효과적으로 시도되지 못했다. 또한 색채 사용에 있어서, 전통염색방법을 통한 색의 선택이 아니므로 범위의 폭을 줄여 작업하였다. 거기에서 오는 미흡했던 점을 좀더 보충하여 연구한다면 효용가치와 고부가가치가 더욱 높은 좋은 연구가 될 수 있을 것이라 생각한다. 이상과 같이 우리 고유의 조각보를 연구하는 것은 전통을 계승시키는 것뿐만 아니라 그들의 뛰어난 미의식과 높은 조형의 세계와 생활을 알 수 있었다. 아직은 연구의 단계라고는 하지만 본인이 의도했던 바를 충분히 표현할 수 있는 능력이 부족했던 것이 아쉽다. 본 연구를 통해 전통에의 중요성을 재인식 할 수 있었으며 스스로를 돌아볼 수 있는 계기가 되었으며 현대 직물 산업계에 새로운 디자인이 제시 될 수 있으리라 생각한다.
