실존과 의식의 흐름에 대한 표현 연구

Abstract

현대 미술의 전개 양상이 끝없는 양식(樣式)의 교체, 어떤 이즘(ism)에 반(反)하는 또 다른 이즘(ism)의 정립 등으로 이루어져 왔다고 본다면, 오늘날 그 정의(定義)에 있어서 논쟁의 대상이 되는 포스트 모더니즘(Postmodernism)역시 그러한 범주에서 크게 벗어나지 못한 양식론(樣式論)이 아닌가 생각된다. 그러나 계속되는 반전속에서도 일관된 하나의 공통 분모를 찾아내는 일은 오히려 단순 명료하다. 즉 작업의 주체는 바로 작업자 자신이라는 것이다. 이 주체 속에 모든 것이 수용되어 있고 이 주체는 또한 발산하기도 하는 존재이다. '전적으로 개인적인 행위도 없으며 전적으로 사회적으로 통제된 행위의 예도 없다'고 하는 메를로-퐁티(Manrice marleau-Panty 1908∼1961)의 말을 통해 알 수 있듯이 작품의 주체인 자신은 이미 사회와 역사의 수용체이자 발산체인 것이다. 그러므로 이즘(ism)의 양태(樣態)를 따지기에 우선하여 충실한 '자신에의 성찰'이 필요하다. 이것은 본인의 기본적 작업 태도이며 다양한 소재를 통해 보여주고자 하는 내용이 문학적 서술성을 나타내는 연유가 되는 것이다. 주관적 선택 기준으로 사용된 작품의 소재는 때로 개인적이고 암시적이며 다분히 일상적이다. 얇게 겹쳐진듯한 필름의 느낌으로 기법적 효과를 의도했고 아울러 시간의 동시성을 표현했다. 시간을 인식(認識)하는 주체이자 무한한 시간흐름의 한 단면에 불과한 인간의 이중적 존재 가치를 표현하기위해 같은 장면을 시차에 따라 병렬(竝列), 중첩(重疊)하는 방법을 사용하고 흰색의 촛점 부분을 두어 미래, 과거와 분리, 연결되는 통로로서의 현재적 이미지(image)를 의도한다. 이런 바탕위에 신구상 작가인 자끄모노리(J.Monory 1934∼)의 영상적 모노크롬(Monochrome)기법과 지아코모 발라(Balla, Giacomo. 1871∼1958)의 중첩·방법 및 그 밖의 사진작품 등을 참고자료로 하여, 석사과정 중의 작품 7점을 선정해 분석함으로써 본인의 작업태도 및 방향제시를 위한 토대로 삼고자 한다.; One might consider the history of modern art as continual shifting of styles. In this this perspective the so-called postmodernism, whose identity itself is often a moot question, is also no more than a style exhibiting a mode of fin-deciecle. I believe, however, that there is a common thread through the continual shiftiong-around. My answer to this is rather simple and straightforward. In the midst of all sorts of the imposing ideas, it is the artist herself that is the subject of her work. All the things flow into the artist, and she projects-them into her work. and she projects them into her work. Merleau Ponty once remarked that no action is purely individual, nor under complete social regulation. This I take to indicate my thesis : The artist herself accommodates and recreates the society and its history. Thus, an artist needs to reflect faithfully on herself to move forward to a mode or an "ism". This is the basic belief underlying all my works, which is why the literary motif deeply characterizes them. So I often take daily themes and permeates my works with selt-illuminative suggestions. The technique I experimented is to paint in thin layers and aim at a film effect added with impressions of the passage of time. The Key idea is this : A human being is related to thime in two-fold manner : She is aware of time while contacting merely one of its layers among infinitely many of them. infinitely Hence, I display towards one external reality more than one perspectives, which represents different consciousness through passage of time. Here, the image of the present is expressed as a path from the past to the future. I was inspired by Jacques Monory's mono-chrome technique aiming at film image and Balla Giacomo's overlapping method. I used some picture taken and edited by myself and the drawings of them, and attempted to set my orientations by analyzing seven paintings which represents the period my master's study.
