자연 형상에 근거한 서법적 표현 연구

Abstract

제2차 세계대전이후 등장한 추상표현주의와 앵포르멜 추상 이후의 미술의 역사적인 상황은, 색면파회화(Colorfield Painting), 하아드 에지(Hard-Edge), 옵 아트(Op Art), 미니멀 아트(Minimal Art), 대지 미술(Earth Art), 환경미술(Enviromental Art), 개념 미술(Conceptual Art)에 이르는 동시적이고, 산발적인 전개가 일어났다. 이러한 상황에서 추상 미술은 조형적 확립과 주관적 영역을 강조하는 새로운 경향으로 확립되었다. 추상미술의 흐름은 1,2차 세계대전을 거치면서 이성적 성향 즉 기하학적 추상과 감성적 성향의 서정적 추상의 커다란 흐름을 이루었는데, 이와같은 추상활동은 근본적으로 사고와 상상력의 자유에서 나오는 것이라고 생각된다. 이러한 관점에서 작품제작 연구를 중심으로 한 본 논문은 자연대상에서 유도된 형상을 물질적 소재를 바탕으로, 동양의 書가 내포하는 직관적, 상징적, 일회적이고 유동적인 필치에 의하여 화면에 새로운 모습으로 반영하고자 하였다. 따라서 본인은 물질적 체험을 통해 풍부한 필치의 표현을 이루는데 목적을 두었다. 書法의 도입은 동양·서양회화의 상응성의 관계를 파악케 해주는 길을 마련해 주며, 추상회화의 연관성으로도 나타나게 되었다. 본인작품과 연관지을 수 있는, 앙포르멜이나 추상표현주의 회화가 갖고 있는 묵상적이며 비 정형적이라든가 다이나믹한 생명감 내지는 공간성이 동양예술의 특성과 깊은 관계가 있음을 알았고, 서양미술의 이성주의에 기반을 둔 전통에 이탈하여 동양예술의 직관주의 또는 주관주의 원리에 접근한 작품들을 연구해 보았다. 특히 자신의 예술 세계에 직접적으로 동양 사상에 대한 연구와 예술 사조를 수용하거나 간접적인 형태로서 받아 들였다고 볼 수 있는 추상표현주의 작가 중에서 동양 사상과 서예적인 필적에 접근한 마아크 토비(Mark Tobey, 1890∼1976)와 삐에르 쑬라쥬(Pierre Soulages, 1919∼)를 선정하여, 이들의 작품세계와 작품의 표현내용을 연구 검토해 봄으로써 본인의 작품 제작과정과 표현 내용을 연구해 보고자 한다.; After World War Ⅱ, the Abstract Expressionism and Informal Abstract Art appeared, and then the Colorfield Painting, Hard-Edge, Pop Art, Op Art, Minimal Art, Earth Art, Environmental Art, and Conceptual Art occured temporarily. In the background where various fields of arts existed, several new isms, which put a stress on the establishment of plasticity and expression of individuality, were formed in Abstract Art. During World War I and Ⅱ, the trend of Abstract Art was to accomplish the geometric abstraction(intellectual inclination) and the lyric abstraction(sensible in clination). This kind of art, I think, was derived from the freedom of thoughts and imaginations. In this point, this study has tried to express the newly created orders on canvas, that was based on the basic figuration in natural objects. Thus my works can be classified as lyric abstraction. Since I noticed that the silent, amorphous or dynamic vitality of Informal Abstract Art and Abstract Expressionism is connected to Oriental Art, I have studied several works related intuitionism and subjectivism of the East. Especially, studying and analyzing two artists-Mark Tobey, who absorbed oriental ideas in his work, Pierre Soulages, who approched calllgraphical paintings-I want to analyze my own works based on their works in this study. And I will continue to try to search for a way to mix the spiritualism of the East and the materialism of the West in my art works.
