Oliver Messiaen에 대한 연구

Abstract

1908년 불란서에서 출생하여 현재에 이르기까지 작곡가, 교수, 이론가로서 20C 현대음악의 거성의 한사람인 Oilvier Messiaen에 대해 어떤 방향으로 다루었나 하는 것을 간단히 설명하겠다. 먼저 서론에서 왜 내가 논문의 주제로써 현대 작곡가를 그 중에서도 특히 Oilvier Messiaen을 택하게 되었나 하는 이유를 밝히고 다음으로는 그가 현재 자신의 독특한 이론과 음악적 업법을 형성할 수 있게한 그 당시 국제적 국내적 음악 경향과 상황 즉 시대적인 배경을 설명하였다. 본론에서는 대강 5가지의 관점으로 나누어 Oilvier Messiaen에 대해 구체적으로 살펴보려고 했는데 그 5가지 관점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, Messiaen의 음악적 위치로써, 여러 가지 측면에서 그가 가지고 있는 특징과 몇몇 평론가들의 짤막한 비평을 참고, 대조하여서 그가 차지하고 있는 음악적 좌표를 찾도록 했다. 둘째, Messiaen의 음악적인 성장과 즉 그의 교육과정 및 그가 음악적으로 발전 변모되는 모습을 다루었고, 최근까지의 작품목록을 수록했다. 셋째, 그의 이론을 설명했는데 여기서는 그가 자신의 음악적인 기법을 총망라해서 집대성한 「나의 음악어법」을 주로 소개했다. 넷째, 그의 작품의 분석으로써, 「음가와 강도의 모드」를 예로들어서 선택했다. 이것은 Messiaen이 작곡한 대부분의 걸작들이 대규모적이고 많은 시간을 요하는 작품들이어서 분석하기가 어려운 점이 있고, Serial Music이란 이론은 그가 끼친 여러 가지의 경향들 중의 한 부분에 불과하지만 특히 Boulez나 stockhausen에 의해 확립된 「Musique Serial」의 토대가 되었다는 점으로 큰 공헌을 남겼으며 이 작품이 이와 같은 Serial Music의 이론을 집약시켰다는 이유에서이다. 그가 비록 그가 가진 약점과 음악적인 한계로 인해 많은 논란과 비판의 대상이 되어왔지만, 카톨릭적인 경건한 신앙에 뿌리를 박고 여러 가지 다양한 소재를 그의 음악이론에 도입시켜서 다른 작곡가들과 구별될 수 있는 독특한 음악기법을 창조하였다는 점에서, 새로이 인식, 평가되야 할 것으로 생각한다.;This study deals with Olivier Messiaen Who is one of the most prominent musicians of this century, as a composer, professor, and Theorist. The introduction part of my thesis, first, explains the reason why I selected Olivier Messiaen among numerous modern composers. Then follows a brief description of the universal and local trends of music of his time which affected him to develop his characteristic theory and musical techniques. The main part is divided into our chapters: First, Concerning to a musical position of Messiaen, I tried to figure out his musical character refering to various points of critics either favorable to him. Second, I described the process of his musical growth including his educational career and steps of his musical development, and catalogue of his works. Third, I mentioned his theory, I introduced his book "The technique of my musical language" which contains a comprehensive compilation of his various musical techniques. Fourth, as an analysis of his works, I chose "A mode of Value and intensity". He applied his theory of serial music into this piece and it enormously contributed to the development of "musique serial" which was established by Boulez and stockhausen. Although Messiaen often became taget of adverse criticism for his musical limitation, his unique musical technique should be recognized and highly esteemed. This creative spirit was based on his musical idea and on his Catholic belief.
