韓國 古代英雄小說에 나타난 삶의 樣式과 그 葛藤

Abstract

Little is known about the authors or the dates of the ancient epic novels. Beside, there are usually various copys of them. All these facts gave so far strong impetus to the bibliographic study in this field. In this thesis, the author intends to examine not, such external bibliographic aspects but the intrinsic characteristics of the action which is variable according to the forms of exiatence. Human action is deeply related with the inner desire, and this desire in its turn depends on the manner of approach to life, Because basic difference in action which is caused by the contradictory desires shows the continuous and deeply involved conflict, it is the most effective form of conflict for the epic novels. This conflict is, in other words, that of the potential human instincts on which human action depends. The form of existense is devided into three kinds: having-mode, being-mode, super-being-mode. the characteristic of man's action in the havIng-mode is the wish for blind, irresponsible, and unlimited elevation, because he regards possession as the ultimate aim of life, People who take the being-mode persue truthful and valuable life, because their aim is the existence, that is, life itself, Thus it is natural that their action be responsible and reasonable, that it should get more nature by the repeated trial and experience. The characteristics of the action of people who take the Super-being-mode are the manifestation of reason, mystery, and the removal of emotion. Their aim is the refusal of possession and the conquest of human limit. Generally the conflict in the action of the epic novels is the one between the characters who took different forms of existence, i.e., between the characters of having-mode and the ones of being-mode. The charaters of the super-being-mode play the role of helping the characters of being-mode. This conflict caused by the different forms of being has existed s since the beginning of human history, but it is not until human being himself is deeply understood and his value is appreciated that this conflict is formed into literary works, Therefore the epic novels are not only manifectation of the deep understanding of human nature but also philosophical realization of the dream man has always yearned for.;지금까지 古代英雄小說에 나타나는 人物의 生存樣識에 따른 葛藤과 그 意味를 살펴보았다. 古代英雄小說의 葛藤은 所有樣式의 人物과 存在樣式의 人物사이의 葛藤이 주로 이루어졌다. 그리고 「구운몽」과 「하진양문록」에서 양소유와 성진, 진세백과 하옥주의 葛藤, 卽 存在樣式과 超存在樣式의 人物사이의 葛藤이 形成化되고 있다. 그러나 그 作品에서조차 存在樣式의 人物에 촛점을 맞추고 있으며 結末에서는 서로 和合의 關係를 이룸으로써 두 生存樣式의 人物을 補助해 주는 役割을 通해서도 찾을 수 있다. 이것은 作者意識이나 小說의 特性과도 관련을 갖는다. 卽 小說이란 人間인 自我가 世界와 對決을 하여 어떻게 試鍊을 이기고 自己를 實現할 수 있는가를 보여주는 것이기 때문이다. 이 葛藤이 갖는 意味는 아래 몇 가지로 集約될 수 있다. 첫째, 形態上으로 神話나 說話의 殘滓가 날아 있음에 反하여 葛藤을 통해보면 철저하게 人間中心이다. 둘째, 당시 社會의 行爲 規範이었던 儒敎倫理에 부합되는 人間을 그리기보다 個人的 人物을 묘사하고 있다. 말하자면 所有樣式의 人物이 갖는 本能的 物質的 欲求充足 뿐만 아니라 存在樣式과 超存在樣式의 人物이 보여주는 自己實現의 意志는 倫理와는 關係없이 나타난다. 셋째, 生存樣式間의 外的 갈등으로 나타나고 있는 갈등도, 人間 內面에 숨어있는 本性의 갈등을 나타날 수 있기 때문에 가장 효과적으로 대립되는 人間內的 갈등으로 表現될 수 있다. 넷째, 所有樣式의 人物은 自己破滅을, 存在樣式의 人物은 自己實現을 통해 勸善懲惡이라는 主題에 이르게 된다. 그리고 所有樣式과 存在樣式의 對立은 超存在樣式의 人物이 介入됨으로서 쉽게 優劣이 定해지고 存在樣式의 人物이 勝利하게 되는 것이다. 그러므로 超存在樣式의 人物의 등장은 作中에 몇가지 役割을 위한 것이다. 그들의 役割은 主人公을 위기에서 救出하고, 그들을 養育하고 術法을 傳受해 준다. 이런 役割이 갖는 意味는 우리 民族의 意識構造와 관련을 갖는 것 같다. 本稿에서 立證된 結果가 갖는 의의를 적어보면 아래와 같다. 1. 英雄小說의 主人公은 現實原理에 의해 사는 人物로 現實的이고 合理的인 思考를 가진 人物이다. 2. 英雄小說에 나타나는 죽음과 再生이라는 보편적 구조는 神話의 殘滓이지만 人間이 自身의 本質을 지키려는 努力을 통해 成長해 가는 과정을 보여주는 것이다. 3. 超存在樣式의 人物이 갖는 意味는 그들의 形而上學的 思考를 通한 최고의 人間으로 비약함으로서 人間이 도달하고자 했던 理想鄕에 도달한 것에서 찾을 수 있다. 4. 古代英雄小說의 主題는 人物들의 삶의 樣式의 差異에 의해 表出되며 內面的인 것과 융합되어 있다. 그리고 이런 生存樣式에 의한 硏究方法은 心理的인 硏究와 社會的인 硏究를 효과적으로 調和시킬 수 있기 때문에 탁월한 硏究方法이 될 수 있다. 그리고 특히 이제까지 否定的으로 評價되었던 英雄小說을 肯定的인 각도로 바라볼 수 있는 기틀을 마련했다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있을 것이다. 또한 이런 접근방법은 판소리계 소설이나 新小說을 같은 結論에 도달하게 함으로써 文學史의 새로운 지평을 열 수 있을 것이다. 그러나 이 論文의 問題點은 方法論이 포함하고 있는 社會的인 맥락을 論하지 못함으로써 너무 심리적인 方向으로 기울어 질 듯하다. 그리고 多樣하게 등장하는 人物들을 方法論속으로 끌어 드리는 잘못을 범했다. 앞으로 社會史的 맥락이나 文學史的 맥락을 찾아 냄으로써 본고의 부족한 것에 보충하고자 한다.
