형태미에 작용되는 선의 미적 요인 연구

Abstract

As our life has been improved and complicated, what the visual arts do today in society accordingly becomes important. One of the most significant roles of visual arts is the making and conveying of something meaningful to us. That is, visual arts is one form of giving meaning to the meaningless with the help of visual reflection on the works made by an artist. The purpose of this thesis is to help us recognize and sense the artistic aspect of the line in works of the visual arts by studying the visual expressions. The writer bases this study on psychological and aesthetic aspects in the line of the works of the visual arts. We perceive the image of things by outlining and systematizing the conspicuous features transfered to the cerebral nerve by way of the reflection on the retina. Accordingly to "Gestalt" psychologists human consciousness sees an object, as a simplified form conforming to the basic function of vision. It can be said that this nature of vision and positive act of creation seem relative to seeing objects and expressing objects in the formation of visual arts. The creator of visual arts makes a form of life by the process of expressing his intention dictated by the principle of arts. Therefore, however creative he may be, the artist should pursue "a significant, form" by the medium of a definite principle in conjunction with a creative instinct. This study focuses on the varied expression methods of line in the beauty of forms: the meaning, role, kinds and characteristics, direction of motion, composition, etc. of line. Line constitutes the economical means of expressing objects and the characteristics of visual image. Meantime, the line itself is able to show autonomous characters, an artistic delight; various movements are felt in such lines as curves, organistic or disorganistic and rectilinear lines, solid lines and passive lines. Line, also, shows swift, simple, severe, secure, masculine, feminine, or august mood as one form of' "Gestalt", The direction and movement, of' line create tension in harmony with the frame of given space. Line reveals varied meanings in harmony with the tools an artist uses, the method he employs, the spirit, emotion and talent of which he is capable. In a nutshell, line is selective. Line in the creation of works of visual arts is considered one of the most, essential factors, which underlines all forms. Therefore, the outlines of all forms are perceived as rythmical lines in our reception of artistic beauty. Thus line takes an active role in expressing artistic form. Appreciation of visual arts can be best achieved by understanding the specific character of line, and in this way an artisitic desire can be satisfied to the fullest degree with the complete understanding of line in artistic works or in its process of being created by an artist.;오늘날 인간의 생활이 향상, 복잡해짐에 따라 미술은 인간에게 무엇인가를 만들어 전하는 사회적 기능으로서의 역할을 담당한다. 미술은 “의미부여의 형식”이며 그것은 시각과 조형을 통해 표현, 전달된다. 본 논문은 형태미의 한 요소인 선을 연구대상으로 하여 시각적 표현법에 대한 사유작용과 지각형태에 바탕을 두고 이를 심리적, 미학적으로 고찰하여 2차원의 조형예술에 있어 선의 미적 인식을 돕고 미적 감각을 계발하는데 도움이 되고자 한다. 인간의 지각은, 생리적으로 대상물의 상이 망막에 투사되어 뇌수에 전해져서 그 특징을 개괄·종합하여 체계화 함으로써 성립된다. 형태심리학에 의하면 외계날극소여는 인간의식속에 표상될 때 하나의 체제를 갖춘 단위로 표상하여 지각되므로 시각의 기본법칙속에서 간결한 구조형태로 파악된다고 하였다. 이러한 시각의 원리와 적극적 활동은 조형예술에서 본다는 것과, 표현한다는 것으로 관계지어지는데, 조형예술은 그 원리를 통해 작가의 의도를 표현함으로써 생명있는 형식을 만들어내는 것이다. 그러므로 아무리 독창적 예술가라 하여도 창작활동에 있어서는 일정한 예술의 법칙과 결합하여 매체를 통해서 “의미있는 형식”을 추구하여야 한다. 이러한 창작과정 중에서 본 연구는 형태미에 작용되는 선의 여러 표현성을 문제로 삼아 평면상에서 나타나는 선을 집중적으로 고찰하였다. 즉, 선의 의미, 역할, 종류와 성격, 방향, 운동, 구조 등을 형태미에 관계시켜 고찰하려고 하였다. 선은 시각적 특질과 표현사물에 윤곽을 타나내는 경제적 수단이지만 한편 그 자체의 자율적 성격으로 여러 가지 미적 즐거움을 표현하는 능력을 가진다. 다시말하면 직선, 곡선, 미기적 선, 유기적 선, 입체적 선, 소극적 선 등에서 우리는 인간의 감정을 수반하는 활격적 율동(Vital rhythms)을 늘낄 수 있고, 또 선의 민첩, 확실, 단순, 여성적, 남성적, 가혹, 엄중, 위엄 등의 특성이 심리적 게쉬탈트(Gestalt)로서 표상된다. 그리고 선의 방향도 시각경험에 결정되며 선은 그 공간속에서 여러 형태의 긴장을 지각케하며, 사용되는 도구와 수단, 창작방법, 미술가의 정신과 감정, 성격 등에 따라 각기 다른 의미와 표현성을 지닌다. 따라서 선은 어떤 것보다도 선택적으로 취해지며, 궁극적으로는 조형예술의 본질적 요소 중의 으뜸으로서 모든 형속에 내재한다. 그러므로 모든 형태의 윤곽은 리듬을 가진 선에 의해 인간의 미적 감수성에 호소하며 망막위에서 가장 정확한 기록이 되기 때문에 2차원의 조형예술에 있어서 선은 형태미를 표현하는 직접적 역할을 하며, 이러한 선의 특질을 깊이 인식함으로써 우리는 조형예술을 보다 잘 이해하고 예술적 욕구를 성취할 수가 있을 것이다.
