Carl Orff의 Scenic Cantata Carmina Burana에 관한 분석연구

Abstract

Most of the Carl Orff, whose intent was to develop the direct and basic musical form with the primitive beauty and strength, are consisted of stage music. Among those stage works,"Carmina Burana"is his first and the most outstanding works. In here, I am going to explain about the particular ques which was used in "Carmina Burana" by Orff, and also about the position he has among the modern composers. Therefore, this thesis outlines Orff's life, musical activities and his characteristics in music, as well as the analysis of "Carmina Burana." The thesis can be summarized as following : 1. Orff emphasized the primitivity through the musical theatre in which he was interested. His primitivism was quite different from that of Strawinsky, whose primitivism was based upon the strictness and the structual complication. Vice versa, Orff's primitivism is based on the simplicity. Therefore, his works show the simplicity using repeatition of the same tune and the same rythmic pattern, or using merely thirds or fifths chords. He chose his peculiar style freely without being influenced by Impressionism, Expressionism and Neoclassicism which were popular during the first half of the 20th century. 2. "Carmina Burona" doesn't require actions, but it still as operatic phases. In other words, he, introducing costumes and ballet into the musical field of Cantata, created the unity of music, text, dance and setting. 3. Orff attempted the peculiar combination in Orchestra by using many percussion instruments and other instruments aiming different effects. 4. "Carmina Burana", which is consisted of two overtures and three parts, has no thematic development, but has repeatition of one phrase or one rhythemic pattern continually. In the light of the facts stated above, I assume that this work, "Carmina Burana", is worthwhile to be studied carefully from various aspects, and that every technique that will be identified in here will provide much help to the music students.;원시적인 미와 힘을 중심으로 직접적이고 기본적인 음악형식을 전개하려한 작곡가 Carl Orff의 작품중 그 대부분은 무태음악이 차지하고 있다. 그 중 “Carmina Burana""는 실질적인 의미에서는 그의 초기 작품이라 할 수 있겠으며, 동시에 그의 표현작이라 할 수 있겠다. 이 논문에서는 Carl Orff가 “Carmina Burana”에서 사용한 특수한 기법을 다루고, Orff라는 작곡가가 이루고 있는 현대에서의 위치를 연구하려는데 주안점을 두었다. 그러므로 이 곡의 분석은 물론이지만 Orff의 생애와 작품활동 및 음악적 특징을 아울러 간단하게 조사해 보았다. 그 내용을 요약해 보면 첫째, Orff는 그의 흥미의 중심이었던 극음악을 통해서 원시성을 극대화하였다. 그의 원시주의는 엄격성과 조직된 복잡성 등을 기본으로 하는 stravinsky의 원시주의와는 다르다. Orff의 원시주의는 가장 기본적이고 단순한 것을 기반으로 하는 예술이다. 즉, 동음의 반복에 의한 단순성과 동일리듬패턴의 집요한 반복사용 또는 몇 개의 이음만을 계속 사용하는 것 등에서 찾을 수 있다. 이것은 그가 20세기 전반기를 지배한 주류, 즉 인상주의, 표현주의, 신고전주의 등의 특징에 구속을 받지 않고 그 자신의 독자적인 필요에 따라 자유롭게 취합 선정한 특수기법이라 할 수 있겠다. 둘째, 이 곡은 연기를 수반하고 있지는 않으나 Opera적 기상을 지닌 특수한 작품이라 할 수 있겠다. 즉, Cantata라는 음악영역에 표현과 발레를 도입하여 음악, 가사, 무용, 무대, 장면예술 등을 종합한 즉, 혼연일체의 조화를 시도한 특수작품이라 할 수 있겠다. 세째, orchestra에 있어서도 그는 독특한 편성을 시도 하였다. 즉 많은 타악기군을 사용하고 있는 점이며 각 악기의 사용도 일반적인 것과는 다른 각도에서, 그 효과를 얻고자 노력하고 있다. 넷째, 이 곡을 두 곡의 서와 전삼부로 구성된 작품으로서 발전이나 전개에 의하여 구성된 것이 아니고 하나의 악구나, 하나의 리듬패턴이 계속 반복되며. 일정한 악구를 여러번 되풀이 하는 등의 특징을 지니고 있다. 이상과 같은 사실로 미루어 보아, 이 곡은 여러가지 각도에서 연구해 볼 만한 작품이라 여겨지며, 여기서 확립되고 명시된 모든 기법은 작곡을 전공하는 학도를 에게 좋은 자료를 제공해 줄 것이라 믿는다.
