'틀(Frame)'이 포함한 다의성(多義性)에 관한 연구

Abstract

현대 예술은 전통적 예술과는 달리 형식에 구애받지 않고 매우 다양하며 어떤 근본적인 목표를 가지고서 예술을 지향함으로써 자신과 인간을 이해하고 있다. 20세기 포스트 모더니즘의 경향은 주체의 탈 중심화가 진행되면서 주제와 양식 면에서 다양하게 전개되어 예술 개념의 영역과 확장의 틀을 허물며 상호 교환을 가능하게 한다. 그리고 장르가 해체되고 통속 문화와 고급 문화 사이의 구분이 사라지는 등 중요한 경계와 분리가 소멸되었다. 한편으로는 현대 예술은 다원화된 경향으로 다양한 형식과 양식으로 예술가의 의도와 형식을 결정한다. 본인의 작품에서 일관되게 흐르는 이미지는 창틀을 매개로 하고 있다. 「틀(Frame)」은 여기서 하나의 메타포(metaphor)를 이루고 그 형상은 다의적인 메시지를 포함하고 있다. 구조적 기하하적 이미지에서 출발한 창틀은 본인의 작업을 통해서 하나의 잠재된 무의식을 규정하는 도구로써, 혹은 사회를 보는 어떠한 개념적인 형식, 즉, 고정관념으로 발전이 된다. 그리고 더 나아가 또 다른 세계로 나아가는 경계로써 그 의미를 확장하게 된다. 그것은 눈에 보이는 현실과 또 다른 잠재된 본질적인 의식의 세계와의 소통의 가능성을 의미해준다. 본 연구에서는 이렇게 다의적인 「틀」의 이미지를 본인의 작업에서 수용하게 된 과정을 본인의 경험을 토대로 설명하였고, 기호학 등의 이론을 대입해서 풀어 보았다. 구체적인 작업에서는 사진과 컴퓨터 등의 매체(media)와 오브제(object)의 활용 등을 언급하며 보다 심층적인 분석을 위해서 그러한 매체들로써 작업을 하는 작가들과 본인 작품과의 비교를 꾀하였다. 그리고 본인 작품의 내용과 형식을 자세히 분석해 봄으로써 「틀」에 대한 의미와 표현 방법에 보다 풍부하게 접근하고자 한다. 본 논문은 본인 작업의 틀의 의미와 그 배경을 정리해보고 표현 방식을 재정립하는 계기를 갖게 되었다. 이러한 경험을 토대로 본인은 보다 적극적인 작업과 발전을 기약해 본다. ;Unlike traditional art, modern art is no limited in its formality, but follows the fundamental purpose of the artist in diverse and liberal ways with understanding of myself and human being. The trend of Post Modernism during the 20th century has expanded the province of fundamental art by emerging the subject from centralization and this leads to communicate each other. And it has dismantled the genre and the difference between the conventional art and the exclusive art. This makes the important boundaries of separations be diminished. On the other hand, modern art affects various forms and artistic intention with pluralistic tendency. The image pursued constantly in my work is expressed through the frames. The window frame presented is used as a kind of metaphor and its shape has various meanings. The frame based on the structural and geometrical image can be developed through the works as a tool which suppresses the fixed action or a personal leverage having a fixed idea of the society, or a tacit frame which cannot be seen. Furthermore, the meaning of this frame can be extended to the boundary of another unknown world. This means the communication between the reality which cannot be seen and the another new world beyond the time and space. For this thesis, the procedure which was taken after images of frames with various opinions were explained based upon personal experiences, and also theories including semiotics were substituted. The photos, computer graphics, and objects are also introduced to express my work more effectively. For better 'in-depth' analysis, those artists who perform tasks using media mentioned above are contrived to compare with my work of art. The purpose of this thesis was to approach more effective ways of expressing frame's potential meaning to by analyzing the contents and forms of this work. Finally, this kind of experience gives me an opportunity of not only reviewing the meaning of frame and the background but also reestablishing the way of expression. I hope this will help me to develop and improve my work in the future.
