韓紙의 造形的 表現에 관한 硏究

Abstract

서양 현대미술의 다양한 형식을 여과 없이 바로 접하게 되는 오늘의 개방된 미술 구조는 자유로운 조형 사고 속에서 기법과 장르(genre)를 확대시켰다. 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 이루어지는 한국화의 현대화 과정에서 서양의 재료를 사용함으로써 일어나는 변화에 의하여, 새로운 것을 창안하거나 사용하기에 편리한 소재 개발을 하게되어 다양한 매재(煤材)와 기법들이 나오게 되었다. 우리 것에 대한 무관심과 서구 지향적인 형식과 내용의 극단적인 혼합 현상까지 초래하게 되었으나, 점차 한국화의 개념과 참된 가치를 찾는다는 것이 전통 회화 방식의 현대적 변신을 꾀하는 것이라는 자각을 하게 되었다. 그리하여 한국화라는 고유한 정서와 정신적인 맥을 같이 하면서도, 표현하는 양식에 있어서는 현대적 표현 양식을 도입하고 확대하여 독특한 기법을 동원하려는 작가들이 많아졌다. 이러한 흐름에 따라 한국화의 재료적 한계를 극복하기 위한 시도로써, 닥(楮) 원료에 의한 전통 한지 제작 방법을 작업의 요소로 수용하고, 그 과정에서 독자적인 방법을 개발하여 한계를 보완하고자 한지를 이용한 입체화가 일어나게 되었다. 수제 한지를 이용한 작업이나 한지 부조 작업 등에서 보여지는 한지 입체화는 우리의 전통적 미감을 현대화시키는 문제에 대한 가능성을 제기하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 한지가 가지고 있는 특성을 알아본 후 한국화에 있어서 한지작업의 변화 과정과 제작 과정을 살펴보았다. 또한 본인의 작업을 체계적으로 분석해 봄으로써 지속적으로 만든 한지의 조형적 표현 양식을 종합적으로 정리하고자, 대학원 기간 작업한 인간 연작, 책 연작, 승무 연작을 가지고 정신적인 특징과 형식적인 특징으로 나누어 분석하였다. 인간 연작에서는 고요하여 움직임이 없는 적연부동(寂然不動)의 상태에 근거한다는 관점에서 생명력이 상징이라고 할 수 있는 움직임과 율동의 표현 방법을 모색해보았다. 본 연구를 통해 한지는 그 자체가 바로 추상적 바탕이며 독자적인 하나의 회화세계 일 수 있다는 확인과 함께 한지의 자유롭고 풍부한 가능성을 새롭게 모색하는 계기로 삼고자 하였다. ;Through the focus on the structure of Korean art, seeing and feeling paper as something more than the traditional idea of using paper just for ground for drawing or painting. To combined traditional scent of art with the structure of Korean paper the scene is open wide to the pluralism of the Western modernism having no filtering mechanism, and accordingly has produced numerous followers. The main stream is consisted of nation-less art phenomenons that are eclectic in accepting the currents of the Western art. The world of mutual complementation means the world where material and spirit are disconnected and where variability and invariability converge. To have complete understanding of how this change of view it is important to know the flow of Korean art in adjusting to the modernized art world which means to understand the personality of Korean paper and how to make traditional relief. The expression that can be seen in Korean art is relief work. The method of making traditional Korean paper relief is at first, the expansion of methods in expression in Korean are and on second, the revitalization of using paper as material through the use of traditional paper. Unlike the fact that in western materials only the embossing effect can be achieved, with traditional Korean paper various effects can be made reliefs, and the coloring of the relief. The main tone of works that I wish to focus in is the, 'the silence without any movement.' and at the same time, 'the movement inside silence.' the inner meaning throughout my work is that colorlessness brings a feeling of soundlessness. The pure white of the paper suggests out soft, clean and warm ethnic character. While the roughness suggests our national strength. And this pure white is accented by the shadows of the relief. Traditional Korean paper is no longer just an empty place waiting to be painter. In becomes an active expression itself, the means of a thousand expression. In conclusion, using traditional Korean paper to express art creates a unique work and illusion through the use of texture. More attempts should be made to explore this technique which can embellish an art work, as well as bring out the artists' true creativity.
