라틴댄스에 나타난 춤 특성에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 라틴어를 국어로 사용하는 여러 나라를 포함한 중남미 아메리카의 역사와 시대성의 문화 산물인 라틴댄스가 오늘날 세계 국가간, 인종간, 계층간의 경계를 초월하여 21세기의 글로벌 문화로서 부흥기를 맞이하고 있는 사실을 볼 때 라틴 아메리카의 춤을 조명함으로써 무용예술의 대중화를 도모할 수 있는 춤에 내포된 특성들을 찾고자 하였다. 콜럼버스가 아메리카 대륙의 서인도 제도를 발견 한 뒤 라틴아메리카의 고대 문명들이 스페인군에 멸망하고, 쿠바를 제외한 나라들은 1800년대 중반 이전에 독립을 하게 되면서 약 300년에 걸친 식민 기간을 통한 라틴아메리카의 다양한 양상의 문화로 Syncretism(제설 혼합주의) 현상이 나타나는데 이것이 후일 우리가 라틴댄스라고 부르는 춤과 리듬의 모태가 된다. 이렇게 다양한 여러 나라의 리듬, 부족한 노동력 조달을 위해 아프리카에서 도입한 흑인 노예들의 문화가 서로 혼합 되면서 각 지역마다 독특한 색을 띈 문화적 형태를 만들어 간다. 즉 라틴댄스는 민속 무용의 성격을 지니면서 1901년 쿠바가 식민지의 마지막 국가로써 독립하였음에도 불구하고 혁명과 군부 독재 등 끝없는 혼란 속에서 희망과 좌절을 되풀이해 겪는 동안 라틴아메리카 인들은 그들의 사상, 문화 및 생활양식에 관계하여 음악과 전통을 끊임없이 새롭게 발전시키며 세계적인 춤의 유행을 선도함으로써 그들의 춤은 과거와 현재를 잇는 중요한 교량 역할을 하였으며 민중의 애환을 함께 해주는 벗이 되어 주었다. 유럽 중세기의 농민계층에서 시작한 민속무용을 특권계층(왕족 및 귀족)에서 사교적 오락의 일환으로 세련되게 다듬어 실내 오락적 무용으로 만든 모던 볼룸 댄스와 흑인노예들의 특유한 민속무용이 결합되어 라틴계의 혈통이나 아프리카 흑인계 혈통의 혼혈아들이 추었던 춤인 라틴댄스와 같은 춤들은 1910년에서 1950년에 걸쳐 미국 및 유럽 사교계에 널리 파급되어 각국의 무도계에서는 학술적 연구와 무도회, 댄스대회를 개최하게 되었으며 뿐만 아니라 많은 대중매체와 영화로 만들어 지면서 선풍적인 인기를 끌게 되었다. 이후 라틴댄스의 스포츠화뿐만 아니라 즉흥성과 민족적, 전통적 댄스가 통합된 현대적 감각을 지닌 하나의 예술적인 춤으로 라틴댄스의 영역이 무대예술로써 확대되는 무대 위의 라틴댄스 시대를 열게 되었다. 화려한 의상과 조명, 무대장치 등으로 문외한들을 환상의 세계로 끌어들이는 무대 공연의 효과와 전통에서 벗어나 새롭고 파격적인 동작들로 관객에게 깊은 감흥을 전달하면서 세계적으로 라틴 아메리칸 댄스의 붐을 일으키는데 큰 기여를 하게 된 것이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 국내에 라틴 아메리칸 댄스를 소개하고 저변을 확대하는데 일익을 담당했던 <Fire of Latin-international latin festival 2005>,<Burn The Floor 2>,<Asia Latin Culture Festival & 5th Korea Salsa Congress>에서 보여준 살사, 룸바, 차차, 삼바, 자이브의 움직임, 음악, 의상 및 무대효과를 살펴봄으로써 중남미 아메리카의 역사와 시대성의 문화 산물인 라틴댄스가 글로벌 문화로서 국제적인 대중화를 이룬 춤의 특성을 다음과 같이 정리 하였다. 첫째, 작품 속에서 음악과 춤을 통해 라틴댄스의 역사를 표현하고자 특별한 내용 없이 인간 삶의 끊임없이 존재하는 화두이자 갈등과 번뇌를 무용수들의 신체를 통해 솔직하게 직접적으로 표현하고자 하였다. 둘째, 라틴댄스 움직임의 가장 큰 특징인 파트너와의 커플댄스와 유연한 힙 무브먼트, 강렬한 긴장미를 자아내는 뇌쇄적인 표정과 정확한 타이밍, 그리고 현란하고 탄력 있는 다리동작으로 도발적이면서도 절제된 관능미는 관객으로 하여금 섹슈얼리티를 느끼게 한다. 사랑을 테마로 하거나 코믹하고 과장된 움직임의 유희적 측면을 볼 때 강한 휴머니즘이 내재되어 있음을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 현란하고 빠른 비트의 살사, 화려한 리듬의 삼바, 다이나믹한 리듬의 차차, 락 앤 롤의 경쾌한 자이브, 애절한 룸바는 과거의 노예와 하층민 그리고 현재의 관객의 마음을 연주나 노래로서 대변하며 열정, 낭만, 사랑, 비애의 감정을 전달하며 음악을 통한 정서적인 유대감을 배가시킨다. 넷째, 여자 무용수의 유혹적인 노출과 실루엣을 강조한 화려한 의상, 짧은 스커트의 절개, 화려하게 장식된 액세서리와 화장 그리고 아찔한 높이의 반짝거리는 하이힐은 여성의 매력을 한층 강조하며 공격적이면서도 역동적인 다리 움직임을 위해서 뿐만 아니라 라틴댄스를 상업화하는데 키워드로 작용한 에로티시즘의 시각적인 효과를 더해주는 기능을 한다고 볼 수 있다. 남자 무용수의 의상 역시 개성 넘치는 헤어스타일과 가슴과 어깨를 들어냄으로 남성미를 과시하고 목걸이 같은 액세서리를 이용해 스타일을 멋스럽게 연출함으로써 고된 민족의 고독과 내적 상실감의 비약적 표출로 보여 진다.;The purpose of this study is to find the characteristics embedded in dancing which can devise the popularization of dancing arts by enlightening Latin American dancing, given that Latin dance which is the cultural product of history and period of Latin America including many countries speaking Latin language is having its heyday as the global culture of 21 century surpassing the borders between races, countries and classes. After Columbus discovered the West Indies of American continent, ancient civilizations of Latin America were perished by Spanish troops, and syncretism appeared with its characteristics of various aspects of Latin American cultures over the colony period for about 300 years, as other countries except Cuba got independence before the middle of 1800s, which became the foundation of dancing and rhythm that we call as 'Latin Dance'. Thus, cultural pattern with a regional peculiarity develops as a variety of rhythms from many countries and the culture of the black slaves which was introduced from Africa to compliment the lack of labor power mixed together. In other words, Latin dance has the characteristics of folk dancing which Latin American concerned in their idea, culture and lifestyle to lead the international dancing fashion by developing new and music and tradition, while hope and frustration were repeated in the endless confusion like coup or dictatorship, despite the last colony Cuba got independence in 1901, and whereby, their dancing served as an important bridge which connects the past with the present and a friend who shares joys and sorrows of the people. As modern volume dance which has been designed for the indoor entertainment dancing by trimming the folk dancing started by the peasantry in the medieval society in Europe from the privileged class(king and aristocrat) into a type of social entertainment and the intact folk dancing of the black slaves are combined together, dances like a Latin dance that Latin blood and African black mixture blood used to play were dispersed widely over society in America and Europe between 1910 and 1950, which resulted in not only the opening of academic study, ball and dancing contest from each country, but also made its sensational popularity through its release from mass media and films. After that, an era of Latin dance on the stage was opened in that its coverage extended up to the stage arts as a kind of artistic dancing which had a sense of modernity incorporating each dancing elements of improvisation, tradition, and ethnicity as well as its sportization. Therefore, it will make a great contribution to trigger the booming of Latin American dance all over the world delivering a deep impression to the audience with a splendid costume and lightening, stage setting and stage performance effect which attracts the outsiders into the fantastic world as well as new and exceptional movement apart from the traditional routines. Therefore, this study examines the movement, music, costume and stage effect of the performance which greatly contributed to introduce Latin dance in domestic field and extend its base, namely, <Fire of Latin-international latin festival 2005>,<Burn The Floor 2>,<Asia Latin Culture Festival & 5th Korea Salsa Congress> and then summarizes the following characteristics of dancing that made Latin dance, the cultural product of the history and period of Latin America, internationally popularized as a global culture. First, it intended to directly express feelings of conflict and agony, which are the everlasting topic in human life, through a physical body of a dancer in a frank manner with no special contents to express the history of Latin dance through dancing and song in the works. Second, audiences are very likely to feel sexuality with the biggest characteristics of Latin dance movements, such as couple dance with a partner, flexible hip movement, sexy facial expression which squeezes a strong strain and punctual timing, and stimulating but restrained voluptuous beauty with a splendid and elastic motion of legs, while a strong humanism seems to be inherent, given that its amusement such as the theme of love, comic and exaggerating behaviors. Third, the emotional tie is doubled through music and acceptance of feelings such as passion, romance, love, and sadness, as the mind of slave, low classes, and current audience is represented through songs and playing, such as Salsa with fast and splendid beat, Samba with a fashionable rhythm, Cha Cha with dynamic air, Jive with rock and roll, and Rhumba with pathos. Fourth, the visual effect of eroticism which acted as a keyword to commercialize Latin dance is more elevated in the gorgeous costume which pointed out the come-hither look and silhouette of a female dancer, open lay of short skirt, brilliantly decorated accessory and make-up, and glittering high heel with a height as much as feeling dizzy. These are the elements which highlight the charm of women far more and simultaneously express an aggressive but dynamic motion of legs. Also, the costume of male dancer shows off masculine beauty with his full characteristic hair style, exposure of chest and shoulder, and stylish exhibition of accessaries like a necklace seems to be a swift expression of solitude and inner loss of the oppressed nation.
