Pina Bausch 작품에 나타난 무대장치 의미에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 인류의 시작과 더불어 발생해온 무용이 급진적인 산업화와 고도의 경제성장으로 정보화됨에 따라서 다차원적인 무대장치의 표현형식 방법과 양상이 두드러지게 나타남으로써, 실험적이고 독창적인 무대공간을 창출해내고 제한된 공간에서의 표현확대를 가져올 수 있는 것들을 피나 바우쉬(Pina Bausch)작품에 나타난 무대장치의 사용을 연구함으로써 종래의 안무형식을 넘어서 한층 더 다양하고 독특한 표현 방식을 찾고자 하였다. 종합적인 예술형태를 갖는 무용에서의 무대장치는 르네상스 시대부터 무대장치의 가치를 인식하고 20세기 초 디아길레프(Diagilev)의 무대혁명으로 새로운 영역을 차지하게 되었다. 그는 무용과 타 예술분야의 완전한 공동연구에 의해 조화를 이루어야 한다고 주장한 동시에 실천해보였다. 이러한 무대장치는 종합 예술로써의 무용과 타 예술분야의 융합을 통해 무용이 가지고 있는 본질을 심화 확대하여 인간의 사상이나 감정을 적극 표출하는데 큰 활력소가 되면서 21세기에 들어서도 무용의 시각예술로서의 미적표현의 효과를 극대화시키기 위해 무대 장치의 역할이 중요시되고 있다. 무용공연에서 무대장치는 그 자체의 미적 가치 기준을 가지면서 무대장치 요소들 즉 조명, 영상, 의상, 소품 등을 적극적으로 활용하여, 무대 위에서 연출되는 창작활동에 다양한 방법으로 무용과의 조화를 이루면서 극의 표현매체로써 큰 역할을 하고 있다. 무대장치를 통해 작품배경이 되는 특정한 상황과 분위기를 연출하고 작품의 주제와 사상의 표현을 극대화시키면서 무대전체 이미지를 부각시키는데 필연적이라 할 수 있으며, 그러한 무대장치가 무용수의 움직임과 밀접한 관계를 갖으면서 동작의 표현이 다양화되고 각 장치들을 활용하면서 연출가와 안무가가 의도하는 방향으로 발전하게 되는 것이라 할 수 있다. 또한 무대라는 제한된 공간 안에서 다양한 무대장치 요소들의 사용으로 무대구조의 활용범위를 확장시키면서 장면전환을 유연하게 다루고, 장치와의 기술적인 관계를 통해 무용수의 활동범위를 확대시킴으로써 다양한 무대이미지 창출을 통해 고차원적인 시각적 이해와 효과를 제시하고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 무대장치의 개념과 필요성을 알아보고, 피나 바우쉬의 작품「카페 뮐러(Cafe Muller)」,「카네이션(Nelken)」,「마주르카 포고(Magurca Fogo)」를 이미지의 확대, 상황전개, 동작의 기술성, 조명과 영상의 효과로 구분하여 무대장치의 사용이 어떻게 나타났는지 살펴보고, 이러한 무대장치의 사용이 피나 바우쉬 작품에 있어서 어떠한 표현적의미를 부여하였는지 밝히고자 하였으며 다음과 같은 무대장치의 특성을 찾을 수 있었다. <카페 뮐러>는 무대세트와 조명을 통해 그로테스크한 카페의 분위기를 형성하고 소품으로써 무대공간의 활용과 움직임의 변형을 가져왔다. <카네이션>은 카네이션 정원을 무대화시키고 소품활용으로 무대공간을 확대시키면서, 편한 일상복의 의상으로 움직임이 활발히 나타났으며 조명의 효과로 환상적인 정원의 이미지를 표현하였다. <마주르카 포고>는 거대한 바위절벽을 무대화하고 미디어를 사용하여 무대이미지를 빠르게 전환시켰으며, 일상적인 움직임과 조명을 통해 사실적인 무대세트 연출이 이루어졌다. 이처럼 무대장치의 활용이 돋보이는 피나 바우쉬는 거대한 자연의 것을 그대로 무대화시키는 독창성을 지닌 안무가로서, 작품 속에 다양한 표현매체를 사용하여 종합적인 연출 방식으로 안무 의도를 보다 적극적으로 인식시킴을 통해 표현적 기능을 확대시키고 있다. 이렇듯 다양한 무대장치의 활용으로 타 예술과의 융합을 통해 무용의 표현성의 극대화와 고차원적인 무대예술로 승화될 수 있기를 기대하며, 창작 과정의 다양한 실험적 접근을 도모할 수 있는 안무방식을 발전시킬 수 있기를 기대해본다.;This study aims to identify far more various and distinctive expression style above the customary choreography style by examining the usage of stage setting in Pina Bausch's works and things that can invoke a wider expression within a confined space, as the experimental and original stage space has been created by the noticeable emergence of a multi-dimensional expression pattern and method being accompanied with an informatization of dancing in a rapid industrialization and high economic growth, which has been along with the origin of human history. The stage setting in dancing as a type of total works of arts came to occupy a new area with the stage revolution by Diagilev in the early 20 century and its value which has been addressed since Renaissance. He argued that it had to be harmonized with a perfect cooperative study of dancing and other arts, and he practiced it. This stage setting serves as a great vitamin to actively expressing human idea or emotion by deepening the essence of dancing through a combination between dancing as a total works of arts and other arts, and its role is still considered as important in maximizing the effect of aesthetic expression as a visual arts even in 21th century. The stage setting in a dancing performance, as it has its own aesthetic value, plays a big role as the expression media of a play by keeping with dancing in a various way to the creative activities presented on the stage and actively utilizing the stage setting elements, such as lightening, screen, costume, properties and the like. In other words, the stage setting can be indispensible to present a certain situation and atmosphere which are the background of works, maximize the expression of theme and idea, and highlight the entire image of stage. Such a stage setting diversifies the motional expression having an intimate relationship with the movement of a dancer, and develops toward the direction to which a choreographer or director intends by utilizing each setting. Also, it suggests a high-dimensional visual understanding and effect through a creation of different stage images by extending the activity range of a dancer through a technical relationship with settings, while it flexibly touches the scene changes by extending the utilization range of stage structure through the use of various stage setting elements within a confined space. In this context, this study firstly examines a concept and necessity of the stage setting, and then finds a distinction of Pina Bausch's works,「Cafe Muller」,「Nelken」and「Magurca Fogo」under the category of image enlargement, situation development, motional technology, lightening and image effect to identify how the stage setting was used, and lastly demonstrates what expressional meaning was fused in Pina Bausch's works. This study process could extract the following characteristics of stage setting. <Cafe Muller> forms a grotesque atmosphere through a set of stage and lightening, and it caused a transformation of movement and stage space utilization as properties. <Nelken> has taken the Nelken garden as a stage and extended the stage space through utilization of properties, as well as presented an active movement with a comfortable costume of everyday dress and expressed a fantastic image of garden through the lightening effect. <Magurca Fogo> has taken a huge rock cliff as a stage and converted the stage image fast, as well as presented a realistic set of stage through a usual movement and lightening. Thus, Pina Bausch, as a choreographer who has an originality to take a huge nature material as the stage, is marked with his distinctive utilization of stage setting and enlarges the expressional function by actively stirring up the choreography intention with a synthetic presentation through a variety of expression media in the works. It is advisable to induce the maximization of dancing expression and sublimation into a high dimensional stage arts through the combination with other arts by utilizing these various stage settings, and develop into the choreography style which can attempt to take various experimental approaches to a creative process.
