망(netting)을 통한 정서작용의 섬유조형 표현

Abstract

인간은 자신의 정서와 타인의 정서를 이해하는 과정 속에서 삶을 영위한다. 그리고 주변 환경과의 복잡한 관계 속에서 자연스레 자신의 감정에 대해 고찰하게 된다. 정신영역에 속한 정서는 때로는 웃음이라는 신체적 반응을 또는 눈물이라는 정서적 결과물을 신체를 통해 표출된다. 수많은 감정을 느끼며 살아가는 인간은 자신이 겪은 정서 경험들 속에서 점차 내면 속의 감정, 정서에 대해 무뎌지기 마련이다. 그러나 인간이 자신의 감정을 표출함으로써 억압된 정서들을 밖으로 내보내려는 과정은 본능적인 행위로써 보다 행복한 삶을 위해 필요한 과정이다. “인간이 느끼는 ‘정서’란 과연 무엇일까?”라는 질문으로부터 시작한 본 연구자의 탐구는 인간 정서에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 신체내부 세포들로부터 반응해오는 본인의 정서를 조형작품으로 표현하고자 한다. 문헌조사를 통해 정서의 개념과 특성을 고찰하고 정서표현이 이루어진 예술작품 사례들을 통해 예술적 표현 특성에 대해 살펴본다. 그리고 정서표현을 위해 유기적인 조형표현과 망의 조형표현이 지니는 의미와 그것들을 통해 내면의 정서를 표현한 작가들의 작품을 찾아 각각의 표현 방법적 요소들을 연구한다. 표현주제와 조형적 기법 연구를 통해 제작된 8점의 작품은 신체 내부에서의 세포작용을 통해 전달되는 정서작용을 시각적으로 표현하는데 중점을 둔다. 철사와 비즈, 재봉사를 꼬임기법을 이용하여 연결해나감으로써 만들어진 유기적 형태의 망 조형물로써 주제를 표현한다. 이러한 유기적 형태의 조형물들은 무의식적인 드로잉에서 나타난 선의 형태를 바탕으로 한다. 철사를 꼬면서 서로 연결하는 꼬임기법의 제작 과정에 있어서 행해지는 연구자의 신체성과 반복적인 동작의 결과로써 표현되어지는 불규칙적인 망의 형태들이 갖는 의미를 살펴본다. 또한 유기적인 형태 표현을 위해 사용한 철사의 특성을 파악하고 재료를 통해 자유로운 공간적 표현이 용이한 망의 조형적 가능성에 대해 알아본다. 각기 다른 종류의 정서표현은 재봉사의 색상을 달리 사용하여 색의 차이를 통해 긍정적 정서와 부정적 정서를 구분지어 표현하고자 한다. 본 연구자의 작품 8점을 통하여 정서 작용이 전 신체내부에서의 신경세포작용과 연관된 것으로 받아들임으로써 정신과 신체내의 작용들이 하나 된 상태가 곧 자기 자신이라는 것을 이해할 수 있었다. 따라서 자신이 경험하게 되는 정서는 몸이 스스로에게 보내는 신호이며, 보다 나은 정서조절을 위해 억압되었던 감정표현에 충실해야함을 깨달았다. 본 연구자에게 있어서 감정표출을 통한 정서조절은 조형 활동을 통해 이루어졌으며, 앞으로 더 깊은 사고와 연구의지를 통해 발전된 작품 활동을 수행해나가야 할 것이다.;Humans lead their lives in the process of understanding their emotions and those of others. In addition, they come to naturally learn their own emotions in the complex relations with their neighboring environments. The emotions belonging to the spiritual field represent a physical response called 'laughing' sometimes or an emotional outcome called 'tears' at other times via a physical body. Humans who live while having numerous feelings tend to be gradually dull towards their inner feelings and emotions along with their life-long emotional experiences. However, the process of humans' attempt to expose their suppressed emotions outward by representing their emotions is truly an instinctive behavior and it is needed for their happy lives. This study started from the question of “what on earth is the 'emotion' that humans feel?" and was aimed to express the emotions of the researcher whose inner cells reacted in my sculptural works based on an understanding of human emotions. The study investigated the concepts and characteristics of emotions through documentary survey and looked closely into the traits of artistic expressions through the examples of art works wrought with emotional expressions. In addition, it examined the meanings of organic and net-structured formative expressions based on the lines for emotional depiction; then, it searched for the works of the artists who had expressed their inner emotions through the elements above and compared and analyzed each of their expression methods. Eight works created through the researches on expression themes and methods focused on figuring out emotional reactions occurred through the inner parts of humans' physical bodies and rendering their emotions in a visual manner. In actual creation of works, I attempted to do a linear expression using wires and beads to express a very tiny unit of neural cells in the body. The wires connected through a torsion technique were expressed in an organic cell-shape sculpture. The study examined the meanings of the bodily attributes shown in the process of connecting the wires and irregular web forms in such a creation process. Besides, it investigated the characteristics of the wires used for an organic linear rendering and the formative potentials of the net-structures that were easily expanded in size through various materials. Each of various kinds of emotional expressions was divided into positive and negative emotions and expressed accordingly through the differences in colors by tailor's using colors variously. The study could understand that the condition of the spirit and physical body's being one was oneself by accepting that emotional actions were linked to the actions of neural cells in the entire inner parts of body through eight art works of the researcher. Therefore, the researcher realized that the emotions experienced would be a signal that was sent by one's body so that one should follow one's suppressed emotional expressions to better control one's emotions. The emotional control of the researcher through emotional representation was done through sculptural activities and it is advised for the researcher to perform more advanced creation activities for art works through deeper thought and research attitudes in the future.
