인간 감성과 말(馬)을 통한 도자조형 연구

Abstract

인간은 감성을 지닌 존재이기에 외부의 다양한 반응에 대해 감각적으로 반응하게 된다. 이러한 반응의 하나로 인간은 아름다움을 느끼고 또 표현한다. 자연의 아름다움은 인간에게 끊이지 않는 탐구의 대상이었다. 언제나 그 아름다움은 인간의 미적 감각을 충족시켜 주었고, 인간은 그것을 감상하는데 그치지 않고 끊임없이 표현하고자 노력하였다. 특히 예술가들은 직접적인 감상과 표현에 그치지 않고 그들의 시각을 통해 보고, 자신의 감각을 불어넣어 더욱 아름답게 표현하고자 노력한다. 자연 속에는 정말 수많은 미적 대상이 있지만, 그 중에도 특히 인간에게 친숙한 대상들이 있다. 말은 인간에게 중요한 가축의 하나로 전 세계에서 널리 사육되고 있다. 옛날에는 인간의 식량을 위한 사냥의 대상이었으나, 그 후 군마나 밭갈이에 이용되었고, 최근에는 주로 승용(乘用)이나 스포츠용으로 이용되고 있다. 이렇듯 말은 인간에게 친밀한 동물로 느껴져 표현 대상으로 택하게 되었다. 이에 본 연구자는 인간의 삶에서 느낄 수 있는 다양한 감성들을 인간과 친숙한 동물인 말을 통해 연구자의주관적 감성세계를 도자예술로 표현하는 데에 연구목적이 있다. 본 연구는 인간의 감성과 효과적인 표현에 대해 알아보고 또한 이를 인간에게 친숙한 말이라는 동물에 대입하여 표현하기 위한 조형화 방법에 대해 연구하였다. 또한 말이라는 동물의 조형적인 특성을 관찰하고 말을 소재로 한 국내외의 다양한 작품들을 연구하였다. 자연 속에서 늘 대해왔던 말의 본질적인 형태를 탐구하되, 개개인의 감성은 지극히 주관적이고 개인적인 것이기에 이러한 표현은 연구자의 주관적인 해석에 따라 조형화 시켜 제작하였다. 성형 방법으로는 자연스러운 점토 물성을 살려 자유로운 형태와 질감을 표현하기 위해 주로 코일링 기법을 사용하였고, 자연스러운 반복을 위해 가압 성형을 하였다. 태토는 점력이 좋고 수축률이 적어 성형에 용이한 석기질 점토를 주로 이용하였다. 초벌 소성 후 일부 작품에는 발색에 있어 깊이 있는 색감과 음영의 대비 그리고 질감의 표현을 위해 이산화망간과 산화철을 물에 혼합한 후 붓으로 칠하고 스폰지로 닦아주었다. 또한 세라믹 크레용과 안료를 혼합한 테라시질라타를 이용하여 드로잉을 하였다. 유약은 밑의 드로잉 표현이 가리지 않고 보다 선명한 발색을 위해서 무광 투명유를 분무시유 하여 사용하였고, 드로잉이 없는 작품의 경우 자연스러운 느낌을 살리기 위해 흙의 색을 살릴 수 있는 연한 갈색 계열의 유약을 주로 사용하였다. 또한 <작품5>는 보다 다양한 표현을 위하여 백색 무광택유와 하늘색 무광택유를 전체적으로 컵을 이용해서 흘린 후 스폰지로 닦아내었다. 소성은 1.5m3도염식 가스가마에서 마침 온도 900。C 까지 8시간 동안 1차 소성하고, 2차 소성은 1.5m3도염식 가스가마에서 마침 온도 1,280로 10시간 동안 산화염소성 하였고, <작품1 >은 환원염 소성 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 감성은 예술가의 창조적인 발상에 지대한 영향을 끼치며, 관객들과의 중요한 소통의 통로가 되어줄 수 있다는 것을 알았으며, 역동적인 움직임을 지니고 있는 말은 근육의 움직임, 특징적인 얼굴모양, 다리, 갈기 등 고유의 흥미로운 표현 요소들을 가지고 있어 인간의 감성을 대입하여 표현을 하는데 있어 다양한 가능성이 있는 소재임을 깨닫게 되었다. 또한 시간에 따른 물리적 힘을 기억해 내는 점토의 물성은 즉흥적이고, 순간적인 인간의 감성을 다양한 방법으로 표현하기에 적합한 소재임을 알게 되었다. 작가가 인간의 감성을 개성적으로 표현하기 위해서는 많은 연구가 있어야 함을 느끼게 되었다.;Human beings are easily affective by external phenomenon as we are born with the sense to feel, in other words, we have senses and emotions. As one aspect of our sensory abilities, we are able to comprehend and express beauty. The beauty that exists in nature is a subject that continues to be explored. For centuries, it has satisfied the human aesthetical senses and with it, humans have continued to find ways of expressing it. Artists in particular have directly dealt with the aesthetical aspects of nature. They have expressed it visually and have gone further to include their own emotions in their own interpretation of nature. Of course, there are milliards of subjects matters that can be addressed aesthetically in nature. Some will appear more familiar and some not so familiar, depending on the character and preference of the person. For this study, the horse has been chosen as the main focal subject for research. For many centuries, the horse has been kept close to human beings as a farm animal and also as a means of transportation. In this respect, humans have raised them in large numbers all over the world. The role of the horse developed from being a simple animal to a farm animal, for hunting purposes, then for military transportation, and many more. Today the horse is simply used for leisurely purposes, for those who enjoy riding, also as a sports category - racing. The many different roles of the horse are studied for this research. Through it an effective method of expression is seek for to be made into clay compositions. The formative aspects of the horse is examined, in relation to its biological and basic knowledge, and works made by other artists has been researched as background reference material. The subjective interpretation from researched materials was then translated into clay formations. In terms of clay making methods, the study chose the coiling technique for a more organic interpretation and in addition to this, the press-molding technique was also used. The clay for this, required to be plastic with restricted shrinkage percentage. Therefore, stoneware clay bodies were used. After bisque firing, the surface of works were decorated with manganese and iron oxides, by sponging, painting and wiping off randomly. Ceramic crayons were used together with terra sigilata. The drawings applied on the surface were sprayed on with a matt transparent glaze so that the drawing be seen underneath. Works without drawings were glazed with a light brown one for a natural effect. With <Work 5> white-matt and crystalline blue glazes were used. The glazes were brushed on thickly and then wiped off. The first bisque firing was conducted in a 1.5m3 gas kiln. It took eight hours and it was fired to 900。C. The second firing was also done in a 1.5m3 gas kiln. This reached a temperature of 1,280c, fired for ten hours in an oxidation firing. <Work 1> was put in a reduction firing. Through this study, it was possible to discover that the human emotion can be expressed in a variety of methods. Furthermore, an artist has to incessantly continue seeking for methods of expressing in order to find a subjective voice that distinctly represents the artist's self. Nature again provides the artists with an abundance of creative resource. The horse has been most inspirational for this research and the study hopes to contribute to further works on this subject matter.
