헤테로토피아

Abstract

다른 차원(次元, dimension)의 존재를 가정으로 하는 본인의 작업은 몇 해 전 개인적인 사정으로 인해 갖게 된 초현실적인 경험, 그리고 그로부터 유발된 특정한 관심에서 연유한다. 교통사고로 다쳐서 병원에 누워 지내던 몇 달 동안 본인은 낯선 곳에서 밤새 걷는 꿈이나, 꿈 속에서 걸을 수 없게 되거나 총에 맞거나 칼에 찔리거나 하는 반복되는 악몽을 꾸었으며 그러한 꿈과 현실의 괴리에서 많은 생각을 하게 되었다. 또 사고 순간 정신을 잃어서 사라져 버린 몇 시간의 기억이나 꿈에서의 경험을 실제의 경험과 혼돈하는 것처럼 증명할 수 없는 초현실적인 시공간에 대해 관심을 갖기 시작했다. 그것은 본인에게 세계를 바라보는 새로운 관점 즉, 우리는 단일한 세계에 살고 있는 것이 아닐 수 있다는 생각을 갖게 해 주었다. 다른 무수한 차원의 존재가능성에 대한 믿음은 본인 인생의, 현재 본인의 삶에서 해결 할 수 없는 문제들을 다른 방향으로 검토하여 해결할 수 있을 듯이 보였고 그래서 다른 사람들에게도 그러한 희망의 통로가 될 수 있다고 생각했다. 본인이 세계를 바라보는 이러한 관점은 미셸 푸코(Michel foucault)의 헤테로토피아(Heterotoaphia)에 관한 글을 빌려 설명하게 될 것이다. 실제로 존재하지 않는 이상향인 유토피아(Utophia)와 반대로 헤테로토피아는 우리의 삶 속에 다른 질서를 가지고 분명히 존재하고 있는 이상향의 개념으로 제시된다. 그것은 아무것도 정해지지 않은 가능성의 세계로 그 가능성의 세계 자체이면서 그 곳으로 가기 위한 통로이기도 하다. 다른 세계의 존재를 믿고 그곳으로의 이동을 상상하는 일은 고된 삶의 일탈로서 소박한 즐거움을 갖게 할 것이다. 본인은 그 헤테로토피아로의 이동을 위한 통로를 우리 삶속의 평범한 대상들 속에서 찾고 있는데 결국 새로운 시각에 의해서만 평범한 대상들 속에서 특정한 기호로 해석되어 나타나는 것이다. 본인의 이러한 생각은 색채, 사진 이미지, 오브제 등의 요소들을 통한 작업 과정을 거쳐 몇 가지 예로 제시되며, 그 이해를 돕기 위한 상황적인 연출과 수집된 실제 대상을 함께 보여주는 설치방식을 통해 잘 짜여 진 픽션, 그리고 거기 부여된 묘한 리얼리티로써 드러난다. 본인의 작업에 나타나는 오브제들은 우리가 평소에 알아차리지 못하고 지나쳤던 다른 차원으로의 이동을 위한 통로가 우리의 일상 가까이 있음을 인식하게 도와주는 것이다. 일상 안에서 초현실적인 상황 연출을 통해 헤테로토피아에 접근하고 있는 사진작가 샌디 스코글런드(Sandy Scoglund)의 작품을 예로 들어 본인이 사진 이미지를 어떻게 보여주고 있는지 설명한다. 또한 기호로서의 노란색을 작업에 이용한 김소라의 ‘아주 특별한 노란 과업’프로젝트를 본인이 기호로서 사용한 노란색의 상징성을 연관 지어 색채에 대한 개인적인 판단이 작업에 어떻게 보여 지고 있는가를 살펴보고자 한다. 무수한 다른 차원들, 그리고 다양한 공간들로의 이동을 통해 새로운 세계와 만나게 되는 상상은 현시대를 사는 사람들의 고된 삶의 작은 탈출구가 되어 줄 수 있을 것이다. 그러한 이동을 위한 통로는 우리의 평범한 삶 속에 숨어 있는 수많은 가능성이며 그것들을 발견하는 일은 새로운 모색에의 기쁨과 동일 할 것으로 기대한다.;My worksupposing that another dimension exists is based on my personal surreal experienceand a specific concern derived from it. For several months when I was lying wounded in a hospital due to a traffic accident, I was troubled with repetitive nightmares: In these dreams I walked throughout the night, could not walk any more, was stabbed or shot. I have thought much of the gap between such dreams and reality. I begin to have an interest in my lost memories for a few hours after the accident and surreal space-time I am unable to prove in confusion between real experience and experience in dreams. That gives me a new perspectivethat we are perhaps not living in a single world. Through my belief in the possibility of the existence of other dimensions, I thought I could solve my problems with the reviews from another direction, thereby offering an exit for hope to other people. I appropriate the concept of Heterotoaphia by Michel Foucault to account for my viewpoint of the world. While a utopia does not exist in reality, Heterotophia is presented as the concept of another utopia that surely exists in our daily lives. It is the world of possibility, possibilityitself, or a passage to reach there. To believe in the existence of other world or to imagine living there will give us simple pleasure away from a torturous life. I search for a passage to the Heterotoaphia in common objects in our daily lives, interpreting them into specific symbols from a new perspective. I present several examples to express such ideas through the elements of color, photographic images, and objects. My ideas are presented through a situational representation to help understanding and a way of installing collected real objects as a fiction or a subtle reality. Objects in my work help us realize a passageway to move another dimension is near our daily lives. I explain how to present my photographic images through the examples of photographer Sandy Scoglun who approaches Heterotoaphia through a representation of surreal situations in everyday life. In association with the symbol of yellow color that was used in Kim Sora’s Very Special Yellow Mission, I intend to show how my personal judgment of colors can be presented through my work. I expect to imagine a number of other dimensions and an encounter with a new world through a move to diverse spaces would be an outlet to escape from a tough life. Such a passageway for move is a number of possibilities hidden behind our common life and to discover that is expected to give the pleasure of new exploration.
