네가티브 공간에 의한 성적 이미지표현

Abstract

Nature itself continues to offer us beauty, and such power is deemed to originate in its life power, namely, sexual activity. Also, human beings, part of nature, are sexual animals in essence, and can circulate their lives through sexual activities. Eroticism has continued to be the target of human beings' curiosity and interest since civilizations begun, and the concern and desire for sex deep hidden in humanity have been involved in diverse fields such as our cultural traditions, mythologies, religions, and arts. In particular, eroticism, in arts, begun with prayers for fertility according to ages and a change in aesthetic value, and was expressed in Greek and Roman mythologies and Mediaeval Christianity figurations. In recent modern times, sex was expanded into the concept of gender, and was expressed as a means of representing cultures as seen in feminism raising social problems, and the human body concept involving female body description changing into a material concept. Amid this trend, eroticism, the theme of this research, was expressed as the formation of the sexual image of flowers on the basis of this researcher's female identity, with sexual desire and life circulation seen as the same concept. In this research, the flower symbolizes womanliness, serves as a tool to express the life power of nature, and is genitals of a plant, and attention is paid to the fact that sexual activity leads to a birth of life, and a circulation of life. Thus, rather than depicting the overall beauty of flower, this study attempted to emphasize the life power of nature and mystic, erotic image of nature that are revealed by the womanly symbol that the deep core space of flower has. To that end, using annual rings, this researcher technically expanded the core of flower, cropped it, changed it abstractly, and emphasized the erotic image. In the process of cutting the interior of the tree, according to the cutting depths and slopes, organic changes in annual rings maximize fascinating sexual images. Added to this were the slippery and expanding surface effects, creating tensions and touching effects, which also play an important role in expressing erotic images. The outer skin was painted with Chinese ink color, highlighting a contrast with the color of the inner skin.;자연은 존재 자체로써 끊임없는 아름다움을 제공하는데, 그 근원은 자연의 생명력 즉 성적 활동에 있다고 본다. 또한 자연의 일부인 인간 역시 본질적으로 성적인 동물이고, 성적인 활동이 있음으로 인해 그 생명이 순환될 수 있는 것이다. 에로티시즘은 문명이 발생한 이래로 끊임없는 관심과 호기심의 대상이었고, 인간 내면에 존재하는 성에 대한 관심과 욕구는 인간의 문화적 전통, 신화, 종교, 예술 등의 여러 분야에 걸쳐 깊이 관여되어 왔다. 특히 예술에서의 에로티시즘은 시대와 미적 가치의 변화에 따라 다산의 기원으로 시작하여 그리스 로마시대의 신화, 중세의 기독교적 은유로 나타나기도 하였고, 근대에 들어서는 성이 젠더의 개념으로 확장되면서 페미니즘과 같이 사회적 문제를 드러내거나, 여체를 중심으로 표현되던 인체의 개념을 물질의 개념으로 변화시키는 등, 문화를 대변하는 수단으로써 표현되어 왔다. 이러한 흐름 속에서, 본 연구에서 다루고자 하는 에로티시즘은 성적 욕망과 생명의 순환을 동일한 개념으로 보고, 연구자 본인의 여성적 정체성을 바탕으로 나무의 나이테를 활용하여 꽃의 이미지를 에로틱하게 형상화 하는 것으로 표현되었다. 본 연구에서는 꽃이 여성성을 상징하고 자연의 생명력을 드러내는 도구이며, 식물의 생식기이며, 성적인 활동을 통해 생명을 탄생시키고 생명의 순환을 가능케 해 준다는데 주목하였다. 따라서 꽃의 전체적인 형태적 아름다움을 드러내기보다는 꽃의 중심핵 부분의 깊숙한 공간이 가지는 여성성을 강조함으로 인해 드러나게 되는 자연의 생명력과 신비롭고 에로틱한 이미지를 표현하고자 하였다. 이를 표현함에 있어, 기법적으로 꽃의 중심핵을 부분적으로 확대하고 크롭핑함으로써 추상적으로 변형시켰다. 또한 에로틱한 이미지를 드러내기 위해 나무의 나이테를 활용하였는데, 나무의 내부를 깎아 들어가는 과정에서의 깊이와 경사도에 따라 드러나는 나이테의 유기적 형태의 변화는, 빨려 들어가는 듯 한 성적 이미지를 극대화시킨다. 이러한 깊은 네가티브 공간은 형태적인것 뿐만 아니라 힘들게 깎아 들어가는 작업 과정에서 체득되는 요소들이 더해져 은밀하고, 도달하기 어려운 욕망을 강조한다. 또한, 여기에 매끄럽고 팽팽한 표면효과를 더하여 비롯되는 긴장감과, 촉각적인 효과 또한 에로틱한 이미지를 표현하는데 중요한 역할을 하며, 겉피에는 먹색으로 처리하여 속살과의 대비효과를 부각시켰다.
