상상의 공간으로서의 몸

Abstract

인간은 다른 피조물, 혹은 사물의 내부에 대해 강한 호기심을 갖고 있다. 상상력을 동반한 이런 호기심은 간혹 관음증적이기도 하다. 그처럼 본인 역시 미지의 세계에 대한 호기심과 상상이 작업의 기반이 된다. 본 논문에서는 본인의 작품에서 나타나는 몸의 내부에 대해 세 부분으로 나누어서 살펴보았다. 먼저 낯선 타자로서의 몸으로서, 몸을 경계로 보고 그 내부와 외부의 넘나듦에 대해서 언급하였다. 두 번째로는 상상으로서의 몸으로 가스통 바슐라르(Gaston Bachelard)의 ‘대지 그리고 휴식의 몽상(La terre et les reveries du re을 참고하여 몸의 내부에 관한 내밀한 상상에 관해 언급하였다. 이러한 내밀한 상상의 형태는 생태학적인 특성을 가지고 있는데, 그 이유는 인간의 몸은 유기체이며, 상호연결적이며 상호의존적인 성격을 띠기 때문이다. 마지막으로는 몸의 내부를 신화적 시각으로 바라보는 것으로, 동양신화, 탄생신화, 여성신화 등 여러 신화에서 ‘몸의 내부’에 관해서 다양하게 살펴볼 수 있다. 본인의 작업은 몸의 외부에 관한 상상에서 시작되었는데, 점점 몸의 내부로까지 향한다. 내부에서의 내밀한 상상은 온갖 다양한 몽상을 가능하게 해 준다. 그 몽상의 운동성과 형태는 바슐라르가 말한 ‘우글거리다(fourmiller)’라는 동사와도 상통한다. 본인의 작업에서 행위의 과정은 기법적인 측면에서 중요하다. 손을 통해 많은 과정을 거쳐서 작업이 형성되기 때문인데, 그로 인하여 작품은 중첩적인 형태를 띤다. 큰 주제는 낯선 세계로서, 몸의 내부에 관한 상상과 동시에 낯선 자아를 표현하려고 했다. 본인의 작업은 드로잉, 입체, 회화, 설치 등의 형태로 나타난다. 본인의 작업을 위한 이론적, 실재적인 연구를 위해서 다음과 같은 작가들과 작품들을 참고로 하여 비교 분석 하고자 하였다. 작가로는 아네트 메사제(Annette Messager), 모나 하툼(Mona Hatoum), 야요이 데키(Yayoi Deki), 니키 드 생팔(Niki de Saint Phalle)이 있었으며, 몸의 내부를 마치 풍경을 이루는 지도처럼 묘사한 중국의 내경도(內徑圖)나 이집트의 게브와 누트 신화, 선사시대의 동굴 벽화 또한 참고하였다. 몸의 생물학적인 메커니즘에 대한 관심으로 시작된 몸의 내부에 대한 작업은 심리적이고 무의식적인 것으로 전이되었다. 인간의 내부 공간은 무한한 상상을 가능하므로 이러한 전이가 가능한 것이다.;Human possesses curiosity towards other creatures and interior of objects. These kinds of curiosity, often accompanied by imaginations, may sometimes transform into voyeurism. My works are based on curiosity and imaginations toward unacquainted world. In this study, I have examined my work, which deals with the interior of the body, into three parts. Firstly, this study mentions about going in and out of the body bordered by the surface from another person's point of view. Secondly, this study describes about the imagining of the internal body and refers to the similar work, "La terre et les du reveries repos" by Gaston Bachelard. This shape of secret imagination has ecological characteristic. Because human body is organism and it has mutual connected and interdependent character. Lastly, this study describes the internal body from legendary aspects. Legends to which this study refers include Oriental legends, legends about birth, and legends about women. My works started from an imagination of the external body, but direction of my works have turned inward. The secret imagination of the internal body enables all kinds of imaginations. The direction and the formation of the imagination are similar to the French verb "fourmiller" used by Bachelard. Working processes of my works are important in technical aspect. A lot of my works are processed by hands. The works often display overlapping pattern from repeated processes. My works are expressed as drawings, sculptures, paintings, and installations. Main theme of most works is the expression of imaginations regarding the internal body as a strange world and a strange self image. In order to study my works theoretically and realistically, this study refers to works of artists such as Annette Messager, Mona Hatoum, Yayoi Deki, Niki de Saint-Phalle. This study also deals with a Chinese painting which displays the internal body like a landscape, the Geb and Mut legend of Egypt, and cave wall paintings by early human. My works had started from the interest about biological mechanism of the body and they have been transformed into psychological and subconscious forms. This kind of transformation is possible because the internal body of the human allows infinite imaginations.
