체육전공연계 봉사활동 경험의 교육적 가치 탐색

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 대학교육의 맥락에서 특별한 교육적 가치를 지닌 교육적 경험 또는 교육적 활동으로서의 체육전공연계 봉사활동에 관한 깊이 있는 탐색과 고찰을 통해 올바른 대학 속의 체육전공 교육과 전인적 체육전문인 양성의 길을 제시하는 데 있다. 이러한 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 체육 관련학과 학생들로 조직된 초등체육현장에서의 체육전공연계 봉사활동을 중심으로 사례의 조직과 운영 현황을 분석하였으며, 활동에 참여한 8인의 봉사활동 학생들을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 연구자의 참여 경험을 토대로 활동을 통해 드러난 중요한 교육적 가치들을 이야기와 경험을 중심으로 깊이 있게 해석하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 대상인 체육전공연계 교육봉사활동은 저소득층 아동을 대상으로 조직, 운영된 체육교육 봉사활동이며, 이에 대한 분석을 위해 사례 연구방법을 활용하였다. 또한 연구 참여자 8인의 이야기와 경험을 해석하기 위해서 내러티브적 탐구의 방법을 사용하였다. 2005년 7월부터 2007년 7월까지 체육전공연계 봉사활동 현장에 연구자가 직접 참여하여 사례연구를 위한 각종 문서정보와 연구자의 참여관찰에 따른 관련 정보를 수집하였다. 한편, 내러티브적 탐구를 위한 자료 수집은 연구 참여자와의 심층면담 내용, 연구자의 현장텍스트와 연구텍스트, 사진 및 비디오 자료, 활동 후기 및 인터넷 게시물, 이메일 등을 통하여 이루어졌다. 전체 연구의 절차를 통해 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사례를 분석한 결과, 체육전공연계 교육봉사활동을 통해 연구 참여자들은 대학과 지역사회, 교내 기관인 사회봉사센터에 접근하고 각 기관과의 연계방법활용을 위한 실제적 경험을 체험하였다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 즉, 자신의 전공을 적용할 수 있는 현장을 찾아내고 프로그램을 구성하고 예산을 조성하며, 활동을 조직, 운영하는 다양한 “길”을 모색할 수 있는 능력을 창출할 수 있는 훈련의 기회를 가질 수 있다. 둘째, 자신의 전공영역에 대한 이해와 사전 봉사활동에 대한 경험, 이와 관련된 이야기의 구술을 통해 전공, 봉사 그리고 자신의 모습을 살펴보고, 경험과 관련된 보다 구체적인 과거의 경험과 연관시켜 연구 참여자 각자의 현재 모습을 바라볼 수 있는 기회를 가졌다. 이러한 과거의 경험에 근거한 연구 참여자들의 이야기는 과거에서 현재 그리고 미래로 이어지는 내러티브 탐구의 배경이었으며, 체육전공연계 봉사활동을 통해 연구 참여자들이 얻은 현재의 경험을 더욱 잘 이해하고 이야기해 나갈 수 있도록 하였다. 셋째, 생생한 현재 속 체육전공연계 봉사활동 현장경험은 내러티브 탐구의 중심이었고 이를 통해 교육적 가치 차원에서의 체육전공연계 봉사활동에 대한 의미를 현장 속 이야기를 통해 해석해 나갈 수 있었다. 연구 참여자들은 자신의 현재 경험에서 현장 속 어려움과 즐거움, 그리고 교육경험의 가치를 이야기함으로써 배움과 노력, 베품과 관련된 체육전공연계 봉사활동의 교육적 가치에 대해 언급하였다. 연구 참여자들은 무엇을 배우고, 무엇을 가르쳐야 하며, 활동 속 자신은 어떤 존재인지를 전공지식과 관련된 의문과 고민을 통해 드러난 “배움의 필요성”과 활동 속 어려움과 연결하였다. 또한 긍정적 측면에서 활동 속 즐거움에 대한 이야기를 논의하였으며, 좋은 관계 맺기와 성장과 변화에서 오는 기쁨, 자신과 자신의 전공 그리고 봉사활동을 통한 전공의 가치 등에 대한 발견에 대해 이야기 하였다. 또한 가르침과 배움에 대한 새로운 시각을 얻게 되는 긍정적인 측면에의 실재적 경험은 체육전공연계 봉사활동 참여 학생들에게 교육경험의 가치를 직접적으로 체험함으로써 나타났음을 알 수 있다. 넷째, 현재의 체육전공연계 봉사활동 경험을 기초로 제시될 수 있는 자신의 미래에 대한 가능성과 기대는 미래의 체육교육 분야에서의 전문인의 상을 그려 볼 수 있는 기본적인 설계도가 될 수 있었다고 해석할 수 있다. 이러한 결과는 대학교육이 추구하는 “전인적 전문인 양성”이라는 목적과 체육전공교육의 목적인 전인적 체육전문인 양성이라는 두가지 측면에서 전공연계 봉사활동의 교육적 가치에 대한 탐색을 가능하게 하였다. 전공지식을 습득하여 보다 깊이 연구하고 이해하며 이를 개개인이 속한 사회에 봉사로써 베푸는 활동이야 말로 대학과 전공영역이 추구하는 궁극적인 교육적 가치라고 할 수 있으며, 이러한 가치를 기본 정신으로 하는 체육전공연계 교육봉사활동은 전공과 봉사 이를 통한 체육전공생들의 ‘미래의 길 찾기’의 방법 중 하나가 될 수 있다고 생각한다.;This research aims to find and to suggest a methodological way in educating the major subject of physical education depending on the educational vision of the university. The education volunteering activity related to the major of physical education is a way of seeking the future prospect through the major study and the educational volunteering. In this study, an educational volunteering activity related to the major of physical education is organised for the children from the low-income class and is supported by eight participants through their volunteering activity for physical education. The volunteering participants have not only experienced and learned a proper way to organize the volunteering activity related to the major of physical education externally, but also have taken a chance to evaluate their intrinsic values of the major study and volunteering activity through the organizing and managing of the activity. The educational values gained by the program participants from the program experiences are analyzed through the interpretations of participants’statements by the methods of case analysis and narrative study, and are restated by the researcher. The results from the study are as follows. The first, the program participants are able to experience the way to access to the local community and the social volunteering centre in the university and the way to interconnect each community and the related groups through the education volunteering activity related to the major of physical education. Namely, they have a chance to train themselves in finding a proper field to apply their own major, to construct the program, to manage the budget and to organize the activity. The second, the program participants are able to analyze their current status related to the volunteering activity through understanding themselves, major study subject, volunteering and the related past experiences. The experiences in the past can be a background of the chronological narrative study interrelated the past to the present and the future and therefore can be a basis to understand the present experiences and to continue the activity. The third, the present experiences of the participants are expressed as the statements. Focusing the view of educational value and the meaning of volunteering activity related to the major of physical education, the statements are analysed. The participants state difficulties, the enjoyments and the values of educational experiences in their present activity. As a result they suggested the educational values of the volunteering activity through understanding themselves and major study subject that related to the continuous learning, effort and bestowing. Through the questioning about what to learn, what to teach, and their existence in the activities, the participants are able to connect ‘need of learning’and the difficulties in the activity. In a positive view of point, they also discuss the enjoyments in the activity and state taking a good relationships, the enjoyments from the growth and change, and exploring themselves, their major and the value of their major through the volunteering activity. Also they experience the educational reality during their activity to bring them a new viewpoint in teaching and learning. Finally, the possibility and expectations for the future volunteering activity gained from the present experience, suggest that the interrelated major of physical education can be a promising new way to educate future specialists in physical education.
