경험된 장소의 하이퍼텍스트(hypertext)적 표현

Abstract

현대사회는 세계화, 정보화에 따라 끊임없이 변화하고 발전하고 있다. 이러한 사회를 살아가는 현대인들도 한 곳에 정착하기 보다는 여행이나 업무 등의 이유로 빈번히 이동하면서 그들의 삶도 유동성을 지니게 된다. 장소의 이동은 다른 문화와 지식을 접하며 다양한 세계와 마주하게 되는 주요한 요소가 된다. 이러한 맥락에서 본인은 2004년 한 워크샵의 참여로 단양을 출발로 계속되는 이동을 삶의 한 과정으로서 받아들이고 그 체험이 작업의 모티브가 된다. 본인은 유동적인 삶에서 마주하게 되는 체험에 관심을 가지며 이러한 체험의 기록들을 작품에서 고정된 관점이 아닌 다양한 방식으로 표현하고자 했다. 미술작품들은 우리가 살아가는 삶을 보여주는 도구로서 기능을 하며 작품을 감상하는 관람자들은 작품을 통해 그들의 여러 시각과 상황이 어우러져 새로운 경험을 할 수 있다. 이러한 점에서 본인이 경험한 장소들은 물리적인 실체이기보다는 개인적인 사소한 지식이나 사건에서부터 사회, 문화적 요소들로 인해 정보의 장소로 기능한다. 그러한 장소들에서 본인이 두서없이 소리를 녹음하고, 영상을 녹화하는 등의 행위는 다양한 세계의 정보와 접촉하는 방식이다. 또한 그 수집된 기록들은 작품에서 본인의 체험을 이야기하고 새로운 의미작용을 하는 매개체 역할을 한다. 본 논문은 장소와 관계된 본인의 작업 과정을 설명하며 2004년 <단양 프로젝트> 이후 2007년까지 진행된 <광주 프로젝트>, <호주 프로젝트>로 이어지는 본인의 기록하는 행위와 그 기록물들이 작품에서 어떠한 방법으로 변화되어 관람자들과 소통하는지가 주된 내용이다. 본인의 작품에서 소리, 언어(문자), 영상으로 남긴 기록물들은 개인적인 유희를 포함한 다채로운 텍스트가 된다. 이것은 단순히 경험을 이야기하고 기록으로 전달하고자 하는 것이 아니라 관람자와의 소통을 위한 텍스트인 것이다. 본 논문에서 다루게 될 세 장소에서의 기록된 경험의 흔적들은 해체하고 새롭게 결합하고 조립하여 열린 형식의 텍스트가 되어 전개된다. 본인이 작업에서 사용한 텍스트의 의미는 의미관계를 변화, 변형시키고 또 다른 의미를 파생시키는 새로운 의미 생성체이다. 이러한 관점에서 본인은 각 수집된 기록들을 각기 다른 시각의 접근이 용이한 텍스트로 해석한다. 따라서 그 기록들은 소리는 언어(문자)로 변환되고 언어는 영상으로, 또 영상은 소리로 환원되는 상호 텍스트적인 요소를 지니게 된다. 그리고 기록들은 무작위적이고 자의적인 배치인 비선형적인 형태로 나타나기도 하며 다양한 표현양식으로 구성하여 다매체적 성격을 보여주게 된다. 또한 관람자의 참여가 작품의 완성에 필수적인 상호작용적 특성을 포함한 하이퍼텍스트적 요소를 가지고 재탄생한다. 이렇게 본인은 지나온 장소 기록들을 지극히 주관적 관점의 텍스트로 환원하여 재구성하는 것은 열린 결말의 소설처럼 관람자에게 다양한 해석의 가능성을 열어두기 위함이다. 따라서 본인은 작품을 통해 관람자에게 본인의 경험을 변형하고 분절하여 이야기를 전달함으로써 관람자는 전달된 장소기록을 바탕으로 재축조하여 상상함에 새로운 이야기가 끊임없이 파생되기를 기대하는 것이다. 본 논문이 지금까지의 본인의 작업 과정을 돌아보는 계기를 마련하고 앞으로 본인이 또 다른 경험을 통해 세계를 이야기하는 작가로 거듭나는 출발점이 되길 바란다.;Modern society is constantly changing, as the world is getting globalized and informatizationalized. Consequently, people living in this modern society are rather frequently moving to another places for a travel or business than settled in a specific place so their lives are more likely to have mobility than before. This place change can be a main cause to make people access to new culture, new knowledge and a world of diversities. In the same context, as I participated in a work shop at Danyang, I started to take my movement from a place to another place as a part of my life and make use of it as a motive for my work. From my floating life, I have been interested in my changeable experience and recorded it in many different forms. Then I have intended to express the record of my experience from various viewpoints, not from a fixed viewpoint in my work. A work of art has a function of showing our lives but each viewer has experienced different works due to his or her individually different perspectives and situations. It is because his or her different perspectives and situations can newly produce the meaning of the work. In line with that, the place that I have experienced is functioning as a place of information, which contains diverse private information ranged from private information or privately kept accident to societal or cultural factors, rather than physical object. This thesis explains the processes of my <Danyang project> in 2004, <Kwangju project> in 2006, and <Australia project> in 2007, which are all related with places. It focuses on my recording activities, how my record is changed into a work of art and how the work of art communicate with the viewers. Sound, language(letters) and video image, which are the record of experience, are turned into various texts containing personal playing with experience. This text is not for telling the story about experience and delivering its record, but for communicating with viewers. Recorded experience from the three places, which this thesis is dealing with, has been deconstructed, newly reorganized and reconstructed and then it became an open form of text. The text that I have been using in my work is a new meaning generator that it changes, transforms and derives its meaning. In this context, I myself interpret the collected record from my experience as a text that could be interpreted from many different viewpoints. Therefore, the recorded sound turned into language(letters), the recorded language(letters) into video image and the recorded video image into sound so that they have intertextuality. Sometimes this record has been arranged nonlinearly in a randomly or arbitrarily manner and sometimes it has been expressed in various formats and characterized as multi-media work. Thus, viewers' active viewing is required for completion of those works and those works are recreated through inter-textuality between the author and the viewer in a hyper-textual manner. The reason that I have changed my record of experienced place into a text from a very subjective viewpoint and reconstucted is I'd like to lead this work to various interpretations by various viewers like open-ended novel. Therefore, I have transformed and deconstructed my experience and then delivered my story in that transformed and deconstructed way. When this is delivered to viewers, the viewers take the delivered place record, reconstruct and add their own imagination into it. In this way, I expect my works would be re-created. I hope that this thesis would be a reflective step for my works I have done and furthermore it would be my personal turning point to go for my future work.
