손창섭 소설에 나타난 '몸' 의 의미 연구

Abstract

This study has the purpose to reveal the essence of peculiar literature world of a writer Sonchangseop, who has been positioned as a typical writer of 'apres-querre' generation, by examining 'Body'that hints the complex duality or many sides of human existence. The emotional essence that Sonchangseop's novel gives us is noticed by the keen shape figuration of human existence that tries to live in the barren age. It is detected at real vividly through the human's 'Body' rooted in the damaged-age actuality. The dynamic 'Body' is connected by the carnification of text in his novel, so his novel that has been lived by 'Strike with the whole body' in the confused age can be read that the intention of his own life became 'carnified'. Also, the practical research of the writer is being exposed as 'Duality of Body' justly in order to pass over the forfeited age of barometer. Therefore, this study observes that the contradictory directivity of 'the value injustice and the value affirmation' and 'the human scorn and the human love'and etc. is observed at the same time as 'Duality of Body'. So, this study tries to overcome the existent investigation about Sonchangseop novel. Hereupon, Sonchangseop's novel was divided into the vertical triple structure - the upper part (head), the middle part (abdomen), and the lower part (leg) - in this study chapter ll according to the ratio relation between the universe and the human body and then 'Duality of Body' to be appeared in each part is researched. Because Sonchangseop's novel is not only detected the whole body as the vertical structure, but also explained the horizontal structure to be included for such vertical axis. 'Body' that appears concretely inside the vertical axis which is the upper part, the middle part, and the lower part does not indicate 'Phenomenological Body' that appears within his novel only. But it includes to the action of body or the sphere of activity and it indicates 'Extended Meaning Body' that is substituted it for clothes or diseases. First, the duality of the closed body and the opened body is researched as the investigation for the body belonging to the upper part. The closed body of the surplus self-consciousness appears as 'Heavy Head' and it is compared with 'Awaken Ear' of the opened body that tries to communicate with other mutually. 'Closing Eyes' shows the sense of distance of the closed body, but 'Intermediate Lips' tries to be in rapport with the world by kissing. Second, the duality of the excreting body and the producing body is researched as the investigation of body belonging to the middle part. Woman's 'Impoverished Womb' supposes the sterility, but 'Abdomen of Plenty' that is corresponded hereupon hints the hope of the new life. 'Sexual Organs for Pleasures' displays the world of nothingness by functioning for the abnormal and deviating sex only, but 'Sexual Organs for Production' displays the life-force of the productive body by making the right money. Third, the duality of the lost body and the reproductive body is researched as the investigation of body belonging to the lower part. Man's 'Violent Hand' passes with the lack of ability paradoxically, and oppositely woman's 'Labor Hand' passes with the economic strength to support family and also shows the will of life as the revival body. 'Amputated Legs and Arms' means the symbolic death of body, but 'Vein of Vitality' that pierces the limbs dreams the restoration of the defamed body. In Chapter Ⅲ, the question institution in the introduction and the discussion in the main discourse were adjusted and synthesized. Herewith, Sonchangseop's novelist consciousness to be revealed by the ambiquity of body was observed so that he might be touched the sense and the limit holding in our history of literature through the comparison with other new generation writers of the 1950s. Herewith, Sonchangseop is confirmed that he is shown the overcoming will for actuality that faces as rooted 'Body' at real. Sonchangseop literature has been based in the specific speculation thoroughly by observing in 'Body' that is based on the experience of existence. His literature can be evaluated to be groped more original solution than the same age writers at the point of view that starts in actual problem and reverts actuality. He is shown the overcoming will of 'Mutual understanding desire with the world, the life supporting, and pursuiting the will of life' with the denial mind called as 'Prosecution for Hopeless Postwar Reality' through the duality of body. thus he shows the double-faced sense of values herewith. This has come in contact touch each other with the irony that is the aesthetic basics that displays the double-faced sense of value. At the same time, there is a meaning that remembered the existence of bodical subject that exists on the other side of such formal device without stopping on the elucidation of technique only. That is, 'the Double-faced Body' appearing to Sonchangseop's novel is the point that the writer's discord who wanders between the value denial and the value affirmation is craved. And also, it enables us to overcome the existent one-sided observation by recovering Sonchangseop's literature that is considering the denial and the affirmation at the same time. Therefore, Sonchangseop may have to be revaluated that his literature world to try to reveal the recognition of the times as 'Body' does not have the abstract or contradictory section only, but also reveals the writer's view of the world to be based on the specific reasons including the complicated and intricate literature.;본 연구는 전후세대의 대표적 작가로 자리매김해 온 손창섭 문학을 인간 실존의 복합적인 이중성 혹은 다면성을 암시하는 '몸'을 통해 살펴봄으로써 독특한 작품세계의 본질을 밝혀내는 것을 그 목적으로 한다. 손창섭 소설이 주는 감동의 본질은 불모의 시대 가운데서도 살아가려 하는 인간 실존의 치열한 형상화에 있으며, 그것은 훼손된 시대 현실에 뿌리내린 인간의 '몸'을 통해 생생히 드러나고 있다. 역동적 '몸'은 소설 속에서 텍스트의 육화로 이어진다는 점에서 혼란한 시대를 '온몸으로 부딪쳐' 살아온 손창섭의 작품은 작가 자신의 삶의 지향이 '육화된' 것이라 할 수 있다. 또한 지표가 상실된 시대를 넘어서기 위한 작가의 실천적 탐구는 바로 '몸의 이중성'으로 나타나고 있다. 따라서 본고에서는 가치부정과 가치긍정, 인간모멸과 인간애 등의 상반된 지향성이 '몸의 이중성'으로서 동시에 드러나고 있다는 데 주목하여 손창섭 소설에 대한 기존의 일면적 고찰을 극복해보고자 한다. 이에 Ⅱ장에서는 손창섭 소설을 우주와 인체의 유비 관계에 따라 상(머리), 중(배), 하(다리)의 수직적 삼중구조로 나누고 각 부분마다 나타나는 '몸의 이중성'을 살펴본다. 이는 손창섭 소설이 수직구조로서 몸 전체가 드러나고 있으며, 수평구조 역시 이러한 수직 축에 포함되어 설명될 수 있기 때문이다. 상부, 중부, 하부라는 수직 축 안에 구체적으로 나타나는 몸은 단지 소설 속에 등장하고 있는 '현상적 몸'을 가리키는 것이 아니라 그 몸의 행위나 활동범위까지 포함하며, 의복이나 병으로도 환치되는 '확장된 의미'의 몸을 지칭한다. 먼저 상부에 속하는 몸에 대한 고찰로서, 갇힌 몸과 열린 몸의 이중성을 살펴본다. 과잉된 자의식에 갇힌 몸은 '무거운 머리'로 나타나며 이는 타자와의 상호소통을 꾀하는 열린 몸의 '깨어있는 귀'에 대조된다. '단절의 눈'은 갇힌 몸의 거리감을 드러내지만,'매개적 입술' 은 입맞춤을 통해 세계와 교감을 시도한다. 다음은 중부에 속하는 몸에 대한 고찰로서, 배설의 몸과 생산의 몸의 이중성을 살펴본다. 여성의 '피폐한 자궁'은 불모성을 상정하지만, 이에 대응되는 '풍요의 배'는 새로운 생명의 희망을 암시한다. '쾌락적 성기'는 비정상적이고 일탈적인 성을 위해서만 기능함으로써 허무의 세계를 나타내지만, '생식적 성기'는 정당한 돈을 벌어들임으로써 생산의 몸의 생명력을 나타낸다. 다음으로는 하부에 속하는 몸에 대한 고찰로서, 상실의 몸과 재생의 몸의 이중성을 살펴본다. 남성의 '폭력적 손'은 역설적으로 무능력과 통하며, 이와 반대로 여성의 '노동의 팔'은 가족을 부양하는 경제력과 통함으로써 재생의 몸으로서의 삶의 의지를 보여준다. '절단된 사지(四肢)'는 몸의 상징적 죽음을 의미하지만, 사지를 관통하는 '활력의 혈관'은 훼손된 몸의 복원을 꿈꾼다. Ⅲ장에서는 서론에서의 문제제기와 본론에서의 논의를 정리 · 종합하여 몸의 양면성으로 드러나는 손창섭의 작가의식을 살피고, 1950년대의 여타 신세대 작가들과의 비교를 통해 그가 우리 문학사에서 갖는 의의와 한계를 짚어본다. 이로써 손창섭은 현실에 뿌리내린 '몸'으로서 당면한 현실에 대한 극복의지를 보이고 있음을 확인하도록 한다. 실존적 체험을 바탕으로 하는 '몸'에 주목함으로써 철저히 구체적 사유에 기반 해있는 손창섭 문학은 현실의 문제에서 출발하여 현실로 귀착한다는 점에서 동시대 작가들에 비해 보다 근원적 해결책을 모색하였다고 평가할 수 있다. 그는 몸의 이중성을 통해 '절망적 전후 현실에 대한 고발'이라는 부정정신과 함께 '세계와의 소통욕구와 생명 옹호, 삶의 의지 추구'라는 극복의지를 보임으로써 양면적 가치관을 드러내고 있다. 이는 양면적 가치를 나타내는 미적 원리인 아이러니와도 맞닿아있으면서 단지 기법의 해명에 그치지 않고 그러한 형식적 장치의 이면에 존재하는 몸적 주체의 실존을 상기했다는 데 의의가 있다. 즉, 손창섭 소설에 나타난 '이중적 몸'은 가치부정과 가치긍정 사이에서 방황한 작가의 갈등이 새겨진 지점으로서, 부정과 긍정을 동시에 문제삼은 손창섭의 문학성을 재발견하여 기존의 일면적 고찰을 극복하게 한다. 따라서 '몸'으로서 시대인식을 드러내고자 한 손창섭의 작품세계는 추상적이거나 부정적인 단면만을 지닌 것이 아니라, 복합적이고 중층적인 문학성을 담지하며 구체적 사유에 기반해 있는 작가의 세계관을 드러낸 것으로 재평가되어야 할 것이다.
