R. Schumann의 오라토리오「Das Paradies und die Peri」Op.50에 대한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 슈만(Robert Schumann, 1810~1856)의 오라토리오「Das Paradies und die Peri」(낙원과 페리) op. 50에 대한 연구이다. 슈만은 19세기 낭만주의 시대의 대표적인 독일 작곡가이다. 낭만주의 시기는 사회적, 사상적으로 대단히 복잡한 양상을 드러낸 시기였다. 진보적 사상과 보수적 사상이 모든 면에서 격렬하게 상충되어 있었으며, 예술에 있어서도 이원적인 면이 많이 나타났다. 이러한 특징들은 음악과 가사, 대중과 개인, 전문가와 아마추어, 전통과 개혁에 관련된 부분에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 이 시기의 작곡가들은 상반되는 영향들 속에서 자신들의 사상을 확립하고 그 사상에 자신들의 음악을 조화시키고자 하였다. 슈만은 자유롭고 새로운 음악을 추구하였는데 이러한 그의 낭만주의적인 특징은 그의 음악과 또 그가 집필한 『음악신보』에서도 찾아볼 수 있다. 본 논문에서 연구하게 되는 세속 오라토리오 『낙원과 페리』는 슈만의 음악 초기 시절에 만들어진 solo, choir, orchestra를 위한 곡으로서 그의 음악적 명성을 세계적으로 드러나게 해 준 작품이다. 모두 3부 26곡으로 이루어져 있으며, 아일랜드의 시인 무어(Thomas Moore, 1779-1852)의 페르시아 신화에서 소재를 가져온 서사시집 『Lalla Rookh』에서 악상을 얻었다. 이 오라토리오의 주인공인 페리는 페르시아 시장에서 전해지는 아름다운 요정의 이름이다. 낙원에서 추방된 페리는 가장 진귀한 공물을 가져오지 못하면 낙원으로 돌아갈 수 없게 된다. 가장 진귀한 보물을 찾기 위해 지상으로 내려간 페리는 두 번이나 귀한 것을 찾았지만 가장 귀한 공물이 아니었기에 천사들에게 거절당하고 만다. 두 번의 공물은 정의를 위해 용감하게 죽어간 젊은이의 피와 사랑하는 이를 위해 죽음까지도 두려워하지 않는 여인의 사랑이었다. 마지막으로 한 아이의 천진난만한 모습을 보며 자신의 죄를 뉘우치는 어느 죄인의 회개의 눈물을 보게 되는데, 이것을 본 페리는 비로소 세상에서 가장 아름다운 공물이 죄를 회개하는 눈물이라는 것을 깨닫고 하늘로 다시 들어가게 된다는 내용이다. 이 오라토리오에서 슈만은 부속 7화음과 부감 7화음 등을 자주 사용함으로 낭만주의적인 풍부한 음악색채를 뚜렷이 보여주고 있으며, 후기 낭만시대의 바그너(Richard Wagner, 1813-1883)를 예시하는 화성적 면모를 보여주고 있다. 또 동일한 주제가 약간씩 변형되어 다른 악장에 사용됨으로써 곡 전체가 통일성을 지니는 특성을 가진다. 또한 극적인 장면 연출로 다른 오라토리오보다 오페라적인 요소가 강한 작품이다. 이 작품으로 인하여 슈만은 세계적인 작곡가로 발돋움할 수 있었다며, 이 작품과 함께 19세기의 세속 오라토리오도 독립적인 음악장르로서 인정을 받게 되었다.;This thesis make a study of Robert Schumann's Oratorio 「Paradies und die Peir」 Op. 50. Schumann was the representative composer of German Romantic Music in the late 19th century. At The Romantic Age many complexity of social and thinking appeared. The advanced and conservertive was standing face to face, it was so in the art. These aspects is found easily in the music and the poet, the people and an individual, the expert and the amatuer, a tradition and a reformation. Composers tried to reconcile their own musical thinking to complexity of the age they lived. Schumann was standing at the side of free and new music. The 'Neue Zeitschrift fu¨r Musik' and the musica piece he wrote shows his stand point of Romantic. The secular oratorio 『Das Paradise und Peri』 is composed for solo, choir and orchestra. This Oratorio is not excellent in the aspect of orchestration, but because of this work he got the fame of worldwide composer. The Oratorio is composed of 3 part, 26 pieces and Irish poet Thomas Moore's 『Lalla Rookh』 inspired from Persian Legend is the motive. The propritor Peri is the beautiful goblin of Persia. The Peri exiled from the Paradise must get the most valuable treasure to the return for the Paradise. Searching for the treasure Peri went down the ground and got the treasure two times, but because it was not the most valuable the angels didn't permit Peri's return. The two treasures are the blood of a young man who bravely died for the truth and the love of a lady who fear not the death for her lover. At the last in the palace of Syria, Peri saw the tears of a sinner who regrets his own sin at the sight of pure innocent child. Peri got the most valuable treasure, the tear of repentance and was returned to the Paradise. Schumann used secondary dominant 7th and secondary diminished 7th. This is the rich color of the Romantic and prdict the harmonic aspect of Wagner. And the same theme was variated and used in each parts. This makes him get the unity of through work. The dramatic scenes are closer to the Opera than the Oratorio. 『Die Paradise und Peri』 got Schumann known world-wide and the secular oratorio of 19th century was recognized for an indefendent genre.
