어머니의 양육행동 및 모-자녀간 갈등과 남녀 청소년의 자아존중감간의 관계

Abstract

본 연구는 청소년 초기에 증가되기 시작하는 것으로 알려진 부모-자녀간 갈등이 청소년 중기에 지속되며 크게 증가한다는 점을 고려하여 중기 청소년들을 대상으로 어머니의 양육행동 및 모-자년간 갈등이 청소년의 자아존중감과 각각 어떠한 고나련이 있는가를 살펴보고, 어머니의 양육행동은 모-자년간 갈등과 어떠한 관련이 있는가를 살펴보며, 더 나아가 모-자년간 갈등이 어머니의 양육행동과 청소년의 자아존중감간의 관계에서 매개적 역할을 하는지에 대해 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 서울시 강남구의 S고등학교 2학년에 재학중인 남녀 청소년 271명과 그들의 어머니들을 대상을 질문지법을 이용하여 조사되었다. 어머니의 양육행동은 허묘연(2000)이 한국 문화에 맞게 개발한 '청소년이 지각한 부모 양육행동 척도'를 사용하였으며, 모-자년간 갈등은 Prinz, Foster, Kent와 O' Leary(1979)가 개발한 모-자녀간 불평 및 불만 척도(CBQ; Conflict Behavior Questionnaire)를 번안하였고, 청소년의 자아존중감은 Rosenberg(1965)의 Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale을 박선영과 도현심(1998)이 번안한 척도를 사용하였다. 어머니의 양육행동 및 청소년의 자아 존중감은 청소년 자신에 의해, 모-자녀간 갈등은 청소년과 어머니에 의해 평가되었으며, 연구문제의 분석을 위해 변인들 간의 상관계수를 산출하였고 단순회구분석과 중다회귀분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 연구문제에 따른 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어머니의 양육행동과 남녀 청소년의 자아존중감간의 관계를 살펴 본 결과, 어머니의 애정, 감독, 합리적 설명 등의 긍정적 양육행동은 남녀 청소년의 자아존중감과 정적인 관계를 나타낸 반면, 어머니의 학대 및 방임 등의 부정적 양육행동은 남녀 청소년의 자아존중감과 부적인 관계를 보였다. 한편, 어머니의 과잉기대 및 과잉간섭은 남자 청소년의 자아존중감과 상관이 없는 것으로 나타난 반면, 여자 청소년의 자아존중감과는 부적 관계가 나타나 다소의 성차가 나타났다. 둘째, 모-자년간 갈등과 청소년의 자아존중감간의 관계를 살펴본 결과, 청소년 보고와 어머니 보고 모두에서, 모-자녀간 갈등의 두 요인인 상대방에 대한 불평 및 불만과 모-자녀간 상호작용에 대한 불평 및 불만 모두 전반적으로 남녀 청소년의 자아존중감과 부적인 관계를 나타내었다. 어머니 보고에서는, 상대방에 대한 불평 및 불만은 남자 청소년의 자아존중감과 유의한 관계가 없었던 반면, 여자 청소년의 자아존중감과는 부적 관계가 나타나 다소의 성차가 나타났다. 셋째, 어머니의 양육행동과 모-자녀간 갈등간의 관계를 살펴본 결과, 청소년 보고에서 남녀 모두 어머니의 애정, 감독 및 합리적 설명은 전반적으로 모-자녀간 갈등과 부적 관계를, 어머니의 학대 및 방임이 모-자년간 갈등과 정적 관계를 나타내었고, 전반적으로 어머니의 과잉기대 및 과잉간섭과 모-자녀간 갈등간의 관계에서만 다소의 성차가 발견되었다. 마지막으로, 어머니의 양육행동과 청소년의 자아존중감간의 관계에서 모-자녀간 갈등의 매개적 역할을 살펴본 결과, 청소년 보고의 경우, 남자 청소년이 지각하는 모-자년간 갈등은 어머니의 감독, 합리적 설명 및 학대의 각각의 요인과 남자 청소년의 자아존중감간의 관계에서 매개적 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 어머니 보고의 경우에는 모-자녀간 갈등의 매개적 역할이 어머니의 감독과 여자 청소년의 자아존중감간의 관계에서만 발견되었다. 이로써, 양자간의 관계에서 청소년 보고에 의한 모-자년간 갈등은 어머니 보고에 의한 경우보다 더 유의한 매개적 효과를 나타내었다. 이러한 결과를 통해, 어머니의 양육행동은 어머니의 애정을 제외하고는 전반적으로 남녀 청소년의 자아존중감에 직접적으로 영향을 미치기보다는 청소년이 지각하는 모-자녀간 갈등을 통해 남녀 청소넌의 자아존중감에 간접적으로 영향을 미침을 알 수 있다. 또한, 어머니의 애정은 청소년의 자아존중감에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 양육행동 요인으로서, 청소년의 긍정적인 자아존중감 발달을 위해 중요한 양육요인임을 강조 할 수 있다. ;The main purpose of this study was to examine the relations between maternal parenting, mother-adolescent conflict, and middle adolescent's self-esteem. For this, first, the relations of mothers' pareting and mother-adolescent conflict to adolescent self-esteem were examined. Second, the relation of mothers' parenting and mother-adolescent conflict was examined. Third, the mediating role of mother-adolescent conflict was explored in the relations between maternal parenting and adolescent self-esteem. The subjects of study were 271 high school students enrolled in 2nd year at high sctool in Kangnam-gu, Seoul, and their moters. The data was collected using three kids of questionnaires such as Huh(2000)'s Pareting Behavior Inventory Perceived by Adolescent, Prinz(1979)'s Conflict Behavior Questionnaire(CBQ), and Park & Doh(1998) Self-esteem Scale. Data was analysed using correlations and regression analyses. The major results of the study were as follows: First, maternal affection, monitoring and reasoning were positively related with and maternal physical abuse and neglect were negatively related with adolescent self-esteem. Maternal over-expectation and intrusiveness were not related with adolescent self-esteem in boys, but were negatively related with adolescent self-esteem in girls. Indicating there were some sex differences. Second, in both adolescents' report and mothers' report, mother-adolescent conflict was related negatively with adolescent self-esteem. In mothers' report, mother-adolescent conflict was not related with adolescent self-esteem in boys, but was negatively related with adolescent self-esteem in girls. Indicating therewere some sex differences. Third, In adolescents' report, maternal affection, monitoring and reasoning were negatively related with mother-adolescent conflict, which maternal over-expectation, intrusiveness, neglect, and physical abuse were positively related with mother-adolescent conflict. In mothers' report, maternal affection, monitoring and reasoning were negatively related with mother-adolescent conflict. As a whole, in the relations of maternal over-expectation and intrusiveness and mother-adolescent conflict tended to vary as a function of sex. Finally, mediating roles of mother-adolescent conflict in relation of maternal patenting and adolescent self-esteem were examined. In adolescents' report, mother-adolescent conflict perceived by male adolescents played a mediating role between maternal monitoring, reasoning and physical abuse, representatively, and adolescent self-esteem. And mother-adolescent conflict perceived by female adolescents played a mediating role between maternal patenting with the expectation of matermal affection and adolescent self-esteem. In mothers' report, mother-adolescent conflict perceived by mothers only played mediating role between maternal monitoring and adolescent self-esteem. So, mediating roles of mother-adolescent conflict were more emphasized in the adolescents' report than in the mothers' report. Therefore, the fact that maternal parenting except affection affects the adolescent self-esteem indirectly through mother-adolescent conflict can be found. Implying that maternal affection is crucial in implying positive self-esteem of adolescents.
