신체의 허물이미지를 통한 현대인의 자아 상실에 관한 연구

Abstract

인간 존재에 대한 근원적인 질문은 인간이 영혼을 지닌 사유하는 존재이기에 가능한 것이다. 이러한 존재의 근원에 대한 물음은 오랫동안 철학자들의 중요한 이슈였고 미 술을 포함하여 연극, 소설 등의 중요한 테마이기도 했다. 그러나 21세기자본주의시대 에 들어서 사람들은 물질적인 가치관과 현실중심적이고 합리이성적인 태도를 갖게되었 고 따라서 존재론적 물음과 같은 추상적이고 형이상학적 물음에 관해서는 과거만큼이 나 깊이 사유하지 않게 되었다. 사회 전반적으로 깔려있는 허무주의, 공허감 그리고 무기력이 점점 인간을 가치없는 존재로 폄하시키고 있음에도 그것에 대해 근본적인 문 제의식을 가지고 개선하기에는 자본주의가 가지는 개인주의라는 모순이 해결되지 않는 한 역부족이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 현대사회의 모순속에서 소외된 인간의 상태를 인체의 허물이미지로 표현하므로 현대인들의 극심한 자아상실을 드러내고자 하였다. 메를로 퐁티에 의하면 인간은 신체에 의해 세계에 존재하기 때문에 신체를 통해 세계 를 지각하므로 신체는 자아 곧 지각의 주체라고 하였다. 그러므로 지각하는 신체는 현 대사회의 불안한 징후 속에서 정체성을 상실했음을 이야기한다. 정체성을 상실한 몸은 불완전하고 해체되며 공중에 부유해 있는 껍질과 같은 상태의 몸이다. 절단되므로 불 완전한 신체조각들이 부유해있는 모습은 분열적인 현대의 모습과 분열적인 자아의 모 습이며 세계에 대해 무기력할 수밖에 없는 인간의 실존적 모습이다. 작품의 재료적 특 성상 가지는 부드러움은 견고하지 않고 불확정적이며 생성과 소멸이라는 인간적인 의 미를 가지고 있다. 즉 나약하고 무기력한 인간의 본질과 맞닿아있다. 본 연구의 목적은 허물과 같은 신체이미지를 통해 현대인의 불안한 자아정체성을 드러 내므로 인간의 현존재에 대한 물음을 갖게하는데 있다. 본 연구의 기본도구는 이론적 배경과 작품 표현 및 작품 분석이다. 이론적 배경에서는 현대자본주의체제 하에서 소 외문제의 심각성을 사회학적 관점에서 분석하고 하이데거의 이론을 통해 어떻게 자기 존재를 회복할수 있는지 살펴보았다. 현상학적 관점에서 지각의 주체로서 정체성을 말 하는 몸에 대해 분석하고 미술사적으로 불완전한 신체가 가지는 상징성이 어떻게 변화 되었는지를 연구하였다. 마지막으로 부드러움의 특성과 관련 작가와 그들의 작품들을 분석하므로 부드러운 조각이 결국에는 인간존재에 대한 근원적 질문을 던지고 있음을 알아보았다. 표현 내용에서는 연구자의 사적경험에서 비롯된 소외의 문제가 개인적인 차원을 벗어나 현대사회의 문제로 지적하며 인간존재에 대한 궁극적인 물음에까지 도 달하게 된다. 표현방법에서는 절단되고 해체된 부드러운 신체를 공중에 매달거나 벽에 거는 방식으로 보여진다. 그리고 작품 분석에서는 표현된 7점의 작품을 대상으로 이론 적 배경과 표현 내용 및 표현 방법에 근거하여 분석하였다. 본 연구는 부드러운 재료를 통해 자아를 상실한 인간의 내면적 모습을 불완전한 형태 를 가진 신체이미지로 보여주고 공중에 매달거나 벽에 거므로 오늘날 우리가 처한 실 존적 상황을 극명하게 보여준다. 이로 인해 인간의 존재에 대한 근원적인 물음을 제기 하게 된다. 허물로서의 인간의 모습이 죽음과 부패라는 소멸되어짐이라면 이는 또한 허물벗기를 통한 재생과 희망을 상징한다는 역설적인 의미를 지니게 된다. ;It is natural to have endless questions about the existence of a human being because he/she has soul and is thoughtful. These questions about the origin of a being had been important issues to philosophers and themes of plays and novels. In the age of capitalism, 21c, people are secular and materialistic and don't think about reasons for being than before. Nihilism, emptiness and enervation (spreading in our society) are making a human being into a valueless being. Neverthless, it is difficult to improve this society because of individualism, which is an inconsistent characteristic of capitalism. This study shows an alienated human being as a body image like a skin in this contradiction of our time, and it reveals the loss of the self of today. Merleau Ponty said, "The Body is the self, namely, the subject of perception because we exist as bodies and perceive the world through bodies." Therefore, it can be said that the body that perceives the world, lost self-identity in uncertainty of our time. The body deprived of self-identity, is cut into pieces like skins floating in the air. It is not only the disruption of present-day but also the disunion of self-ego. At the same time, it is the human existence that is enervated in the world. Softness, the quality of materials of this work, has the mortal trait that is weak, indifinite, created and vanish. In other words, it is connected with the true nature of a human being, the weakness and enervation. The purpose of this study is to show the unstable self-identity of a modern person through the body image like a skin and to make spectators have ontological questions about the human existence. Tools of this study are the theoretical background, the expression and analysis of the work. For the theoretical background, the researcher examines the seriousness of an individual alienation under the capitalistic system in a socialogy(socialistic) manner and the body, meaning self-identity as the subject of perception in a phenomenological manner. And then, the reacher examines how the symbol of the cut body has been changed in an art historical viewpoint. Finally, the researcher looks into a characteristic of softness and works of related artists and shows that the soft sculpture has a original question about the human existence ultimately. For the expression of the work, the researcher shows the individual experience causing a sense of alienation and approaches to the ultimate question of the human existence. Furthermore, the work itself and the process of production of the work show the alienated human condition. For the method of expressiong the work, the soft body is cut and dismantled, and the pieces are suspended in the air and hung on the wall. For the analysis of the work, the researcher analyzes seven works based on the theoretical background and the contents and the methods of expressing the work. This study presents the situation of the gloomy human existence distinctly showing the body, which symbolizes unstable self-identity, is cut, suspended, hung on the wall. As the result, the work in the study raises the original question about the human existence, and paradoxically, it means that a human being can also peel off the skin and revive if a figure as a skin symbolizes death and rotting.
