현대 패션에 나타난 한국적 디자인 표현에 관한 연구

Abstract

In the age of the multi-design, a design is regarded as a cultural factor beyond a technical factor. This study was started in necessity of the methodological research for expressing Korean images as well as establishing unique Korean images as an effort to reveal the true identity of Korean design. It established the concept of Korean design and analyzed the features. So, detected internal features of Korean design, which were replaced by external features of Korean design from a methodological side. For investigating the features of Korean design, analyzed Korean aesthetic common ground which was based on the opinion of the domestic and outside scholars, considered it as internal features of Korean design, and considered the plastic elements of design as external features of Korean design. Based on deduced features, analyzed the works of Korean and Western designers that reflected the Korean design, 2000∼2004. It confirmed the suitability of the data which has deduced from collection photograph through work processes, searched the most effective method for the expression of Korean image. Synthesized results of this study are as follows. First, a result of analyzing the external features of Korean design noticeably shows simple, asymmetrical forms and curves. It used the duplex color of 5bang and white; natural matters like linen, ramie, cotton, silk; pattern of flower; decoration technique of embroidery, patchwork, quilting. Second, Internal features of Korean design appeared with naturalism, purity, and humor. Image of naturalism in modern fashion was expressed effectively by use of organic structure, asymmetrical forms, curves. Image of purity was expressed effectively by use of simple forms, moderate decorations, white or the contrast of black and white. Image of humor was expressed effectively by use of gorgeous color and humorous patterns of a tradition. Third, as a result of analyzing features of Korean design on the works of Korean and Western designers, a considerable difference has been found. Korean designers were focusing on internal features; Western designers were focusing on external features, which were expressed partly and directly, mixed with images of China and Japan. Forth, when evaluating the suitability for expressing naturalism, purity, and humor, the results analyzed from collection photograph data were appropriate. As a result of study, it was able to confirm the suitability of substitute external features of Korean design for expressing internal features of Korean design. This is not to simply reproduce an old tradition, but to present a new possibility to create a new one. ;디자인 다원주의 시대인 현대사회에서 디자인은 생산을 위한 단순한 산업·기술적인 요인을 넘어서 문화적 요인으로 간주되고 있다. '문화적 디자인'으로서 한국적 디자인의 정체성을 밝히려는 노력의 일환으로 독자적인 한국적 이미지를 구축할 필요성과 함께 이를 표현하기 위한 방법론적 연구의 필요성으로 본 논문은 시작되었다. 이를 위해 한국적 디자인에 대한 개념 정의를 내리고, 그 특징을 분석하였다. 전통적 요소를 가져와 재현하는 작업은 더 이상 디자인 경쟁력이 없음을 생각할 때, 통합된 디자인의 특성을 정립하고 활용하는 방안이 더욱 절실하게 되었다. 이를 위해 한국적 디자인의 내면적 요소를 찾아내고 이를 표현하기 위한 방법론적 측면에서 한국적 디자인의 외형적 특징을 대입시키는 작업을 하였다. 한국적 디자인의 특징을 고찰하기 위해서 국내·외 학자들의 견해를 통하여 한국적 미의식의 공통분모를 분석하여 이를 내면적 디자인 특징으로 구분하였고, 디자인의 조형적인 요소들은 외형적 디자인 특징으로 구분하여 정리하였다. 도출되어진 특징을 토대로 현대 복식에서 한국적 디자인을 반영하고 있는 한국 디자이너와 서양 디자이너의 작품을 분석대상으로 삼고, 시기는 2000년∼2004년으로 제한하였다. 디자이너 작품을 통해 도출된 자료는 작품 제작 과정을 통해 사진 자료를 통한 분석의 적합성을 확인하고, 한국적 디자인을 표현하기 위한 가장 효과적인 방법을 찾아보고자 하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 한국적 디자인의 외형적 특징을 분석한 결과, 선·형태적 측면에서는 단순하고 비대칭적인 형태에 곡선의 사용이 두드러졌다. 오방색과 백색의 이중적 색채관에 삼베, 모시, 무명, 명주와 같은 천연 소재가 사용되고, 문양은 꽃문양의 사용이 가장 두드러졌다. 장식 기법은 자수, 패치워크, 누비의 활용도가 높았다. 둘째, 한국적 디자인의 내면적 특징은 자연성, 순수성, 해학성으로 나타났다. 현대 패션에 표현된 자연성의 이미지는 유기적인 구조와 비대칭적 형상, 곡선의 사용을 통해 가장 효과적으로 표현되었다. 순수성의 이미지는 단순한 형태와 절제된 장식성을 통해 표현되며 백색 또는 흑·백의 대비를 통해 표현되었다. 해학성의 이미지는 오방색으로 대표되는 화려한 색채와 익살스러운 전통 문양을 통해 표현되었다. 셋째, 한국·서양 디자이너 작품에 나타난 한국적 디자인 특징을 분석한 결과, 한국 디자이너들의 표현 방법이 내면적 특성에 맞추어져 있다면, 서양 디자이너는 부분적인 외형적 특징을 사용한 결과 부차적으로 내면적 특성이 표현되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 이들의 외형적 특징들은 부분적이고 직접적으로 표현되고 있으며, 이는 중국, 일본의 이미지와 혼재되어 나타나고 있었다. 넷째, 작품 제작을 통해 자연성, 순수성, 해학성의 이미지를 외현화하기 위한 적절성을 평가하였을 때, 컬렉션의 사진자료를 통해 분석한 결과들이 대부분 적절하게 평가되었다. 이상의 결론을 통해 한국적 디자인을 표현하기 위한 방법론적 측면에서 내면적 요소를 표현하기 위해 외형적 디자인특징을 대입시키는 작업의 적절성을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이는 과거의 전통을 단순히 재현하는 것이 아닌 현재의 전통을 모색하는 또 다른 실천 가능성을 제시할 수 있었다.
