Abstract
;The main purpose of this study is to examine how logical and psychological aspects are connected and reflected in probability contents of the 7th national elementary school mathematics curriculum. Towards that end, this study addresses the following questions: 1. What kind of preconception do the 6th graders have got on probability before they learned probability in school? 2. What contents are chosen and how they are presented in the domain of probability of the 6th national elementary school mathematics curriculum(curriculum material on the national board and text book)? 3. How logical and psychological aspects are co-related in the domain of probability of the 6th national elementary school mathematics curriculum(curriculum materials in the national board and text book)? For these three research question, theoretical studies are carried out on that educational contents should be organized by being connected between logical and psychological aspects. And organization principles are suggested upon which it is based are Dewey's developmental organization of subject matter and Bruner's spiral curriculum. After this, the logical and psychological aspects were specified into 'formalized concepts' and 'concepts to consider on children's experience and intellectual development level' for analysis of curriculum materials. Theoretical studies make specific guidelines to see ways which are connected between logical and psychological aspects. First, probability concepts have to be taught from the concepts grasped concretely and directly to formalized them. Second, intrinsic attribution of probabilistic concepts are considered, and all concepts of probability should be included. Third, the preconception attained by everyday experience have to be checked by predicting and comparing estimated outcome to occurred outcome. Forth, the concepts have to be taught in authentic contexts that children have experienced in everyday life. Fifth, experiment and concrete tools are necessary for children because of their intellectual development level. These five directions help to examine textbook, and they lead to coding system to analyze organization of probability contents. Under these discussion, paper and pencil task and interview to examine the 6th graders' preconception about probability were prepared, carried out, and analyzed. And presented probability contents in the domain of 'probability and statistics' was investigated by analyzing the table of mathematical contents of the 7th national mathematics curriculum and unit concerning probability of mathematical textbook. Finally discussion are worked on how logical and psychological aspects are connected and reflected in probability contents of the 7th national elementary school mathematics curriculum. It comes to the conclusions which are following. First, probability contents of the 7th national elementary school mathematics curriculum didn't concern about children's preconception, so it can not change children's misconceptions. Second, children could understand probability deductively only, because probability contents have no more than 'mathematical probability' concepts even though inductive reasoning is crucial to understand probability. Third, though probabilistic preconceptions are formed by everyday experience, contents doesn't have enough authentic contexts and materials. It leads to don't know children's misconceptions based on everyday experience. Moreover children could not understand probability in relation to real situation and could accept to probabilistic situation artificially. Forth, children can not have chance to check their own misconceptions, because there are no guessing activities or estimations. Therefore, children can't modify misconceptions they have. Finally, the probability contents doesn't have examples of practical experience clearly. It only let teachers to design by themselves, so the regard for children's intellectual development level is depend on teachers. In conclusion, probability contents of the 7th national elementary school mathematics curriculum don't concern much about the logical and psychological aspects. Lots of things are depends on teacher's implementation. Therefore, teachers should have perception in relate to connection between logical and psychological aspects.
