무용성격의 본질에 관한 조사 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to theoretically and empirically investigate the nature of dance personality which is assumed to directly related to the dance performance. That is, this study attempted to theoretically illuminate both the theoretical construct and the empirical nature of the dance personality by review of literature with survey and focusing on interview with experts under the assumption that dancer has the dance personality. The dance personality is defined as trait or disposition of dancer as a psychological factor influencing dance performance and is the proper personality of dance performance. The dance personality is defined as the disposition to move aesthetically in response to both internal and external stimuli, i. e., the disposition of willingness to move. The disposition of willing to move is theorized to be divided into three factors, expressiveness, aestheticness, and explorativeness. The expressiveness is the disposition of willingness to express by composed movements. The aestheticness is the disposition of willingness to beautify movements. The explorativeness is the disposition of willingness to explore dance movements. A total of 119 female high school and university students majoring in dance was surveyed on the four questions to empirically identify the cores of dance personality. Included in the four open-ended questions were subjective self statement of personality(Q1), objective self statement of personality(Q2), disposition of personality proper on dance performance(Q3), and common disposition of dancers(Q4). Responses were classified into 16 factors by frequency of word to describe personality. The expressiveness and aestheticness dimensions of the dance personality which were postulated to theoretically explain dance personality were rejected and the explorativeness concept of the dance personality was accepted. The 11 dance experts were interviewed and the result of interview was classified into 16 factors. The aestheticness and explorativeness of the dance personality were rejected and the expressiveness of the dance personality was accepted. In addition, the movement sense, one of the dance ability, was revealed to be a factor of the dance personality. In conclusion, dance personality based on dance psychology was theoretically explained as the disposition of willingness to move. And the expressiveness, along with the explorativeness was proved to be the factors of the dance personality by expert interview and survey. This study theoretically explained the nature of dance personality and behavior of dancers and thus could be applied to selection of dancers, dance education, and dance performance. Finally, it is suggested that there should be further researches in the future to empirically test diverse dimensions and factors of dance personality with the use of scientific devices for valid measurements. ;본 연구는 인간 행동과 성격과의 관련성을 기초로 무용심리학의 관점에 근거하여 무용수행에 영향을 미치는 심리적 요인으로서의 무용성격의 구명을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 이론적으로는 무용성격의 개념 및 그 구성요인을 기술, 설명하고 현재 무용을 하는 사람에게 무용성격이 있을 것이라는 가정 하에 무용전공자를 대상으로 하는 설문조사와 무용전문가를 대상으로 하는 심층면접 조사를 실시하여 경험적인 방법으로 무용성격의 존재를 검증하고자 하였다. 무용성격(dance personality)은 무용수행에 영향을 미치는 심리적 요인으로 무용수 개인의 속성 또는 성향인 무용수의 성격을 말하며 무용 환경에서 일관적이며 독특하게 무용행동을 결정하는 심리적인 경향성이다. 이론적으로 무용성격의 본질을 동작적 특성으로 파악하는 관점에 근거하여 내·외적 자극에 대하여 미적 동작으로 반응하는 무용동작성을 무용동작화 성향과 무용동작화 능력 차원으로 설명하고 성향차원, 즉 무용성격을 각종 정보에 대하여 미적 동작으로 반응하려는 성향으로 개념화 하였다. 이러한 무용성격은 구조화된 동작으로 사상이나 감정을 전달하려는 성향인 표현성, 구조화된 동작을 미화하려는 성향의 심미성과 표현적, 미적 동작에 대한 열정과 탐색의 성향인 탐구성으로 구체화 하였다. 이론적으로 규명된 무용성격의 개념 및 요인들을 경험적으로 확인하기 위하여 119명의 무용전공자와 11명의 무용전문가를 대상으로 각각 설문조사와 심층면접조사를 실시하였다. 설문조사는 무용성격을 유추할 수 있는 무용인의 주관적, 객관적 자기성격 진술, 이상적인 무용성격 진술, 무용인의 공통적인 성격 진술 등의 네 가지 개방형 질문을 바탕으로 조사 대상자들이 반응한 성격 진술 단어의 회수별 빈도분석을 통해 각 문항별 16개의 요인(감정/이성, 내향성/외향성, 개방성/보수성, 산만성/집중성, 이기성/이타성, 긍정성, 과제집착성, 독특성, 동작감각, 민감성, 표현성)으로 분류화 하였다. 조사결과 무용인의 성격이 외향성/내향성 차원과 감정 요인으로, 이상적인 무용성격은 과제집착성, 외향성, 감정, 독특성 등의 요인으로, 공통적인 무용인의 성격에서는 이기성, 외향성, 감정 요인 등이 주요한 성격 특성으로 나타났다. 11명의 무용 전문가를 대상으로 실시한 심층면접 조사에서는 자신의 성격진술(문항 1), 전문가 자신이 무용을 잘 하게끔 하는 성격 진술(문항 2), 무용에 적합한 성격 진술(문항 3), 공통적인 무용인의 성격 진술(문항 4) 등의 결과를 사람별로 빈도분석을 실시하여 설문조사와 동일한 16개의 요인으로 분류화 하였다. 전문가의 자기 성격 진술에서는 내향성, 감정, 동작감각, 이타성, 표현성 등의 요인이 주요 성격특성으로 파악되었다. 또한 전문가들은 무용을 잘하게 하는 성격요인으로 동작감각과 집중성을 강조하였다. 이상적인 무용성격은 과제집착성, 동작감각 등이 주요한 요인으로 파악되었고 공통적인 무용인의 성격으로 이기성 요인이 주요한 성격 특성으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과, 무용성격은 동작화 성향으로 표현성, 심미성, 탐구성으로 구성되어 있을 것이라는 가설은 부분적으로 지지되었다. 설문조사에서는 과제집착성의 높은 빈도를 통해 탐구성의 근거를 찾을 수 있었고 심층면접 조사에서는 무용성격의 구성요인으로서의 표현성과 무용능력 차원의 동작감각 특성이 확인되었다. 그러나 심미성과 관련된 성격특성은 두 조사 모두에서 지지되지 않았다. 무용성격의 본질을 구명하기 위하여 무용심리학적 관점을 기초로 무용성격의 개념 및 구성요인을 경험적으로 검증하고자 한 본 연구의 결과, 이론적으로는 무용인의 성격과 행동에 대한 이해 및 설명의 근거를 마련하고 응용적으로는 교육현장에서 학습자의 심리적 성향과 특성을 이해하여 학습의 효율을 높이며 무용영재 및 무용수를 선발하는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다. 또한 공연 현장에서는 무용수의 동기화나 기술 습득에 효과적인 프로그램의 제공과 적합한 무용처방을 내리는데도 유용한 정보로서 활용될 수 있으며 과학적인 검증방법을 동원하여 무용성격의 다양한 차원과 구성요인을 규명할 수 있는 후속연구를 제안한다.
