수화언어에 기반을 둔 아이콘언어 연구와 설계

Abstract

본 논문에서는 아이콘을 의사소통을 위한 언어로서의 표현 기능을 갖추도록 기본적인 문법 설계를 제안한다. 아이콘언어를 사용한다면 글을 읽지 못하는 유아의 언어 구성력과 창의력 개발에 도움을 줄 수 있고, 시각적인 정보만으로 의사소통을 하는 청각장애인들에게 음성언어를 전달하는 보조적인 수단이 될 수 있으며, 서로 다른 언어를 사용하는 외국인들 간에 효과적인 정보전달이 이루어질 수 있다. 아이콘 언어에 대한 기존 연구가 한국어 문법을 그대로 아이콘 언어에 적용함으로써 문장이 복잡해지고 직관적으로 의미를 파악하는데 다소 어려움이 있다는 점을 개선하고자 아이콘 언어 문법에 수화언어의 표현법을 적용하여 문장이 간결하면서 의미파악이 가능하도록 설계하였다. 아이콘 언어의 문법규칙을 제정하고 그 틀에 맞춰 중요한 문장 표현들을 아이콘 문장으로 구성하였다. 또한 문장의 의미전달을 명확하게 하기 위한 몇 가지 보조적인 표현방법을 제안하였다. 그러나 의미를 대표할 수 있는 적절한 아이콘 이미지를 디자인하는 것은 여전히 풀어야 할 과제이며, 또한 문장의 간결성을 유지하기 위해 의미전달에 큰 영향을 주지 못하는 단어를 생략하는데서 올 수 있는 문장의 모호함을 해결하는 것도 연구과제이다. 본 논문은 아이콘을 언어로 만들기 위해 수화언어를 기반으로 문법적인 설계에 초점을 맞추었고, 설계한 아이콘 언어의 문법은 향후 아이콘 언어 실용화에 밑거름으로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

;This study proposes basic icon grammar, which is designed for icons to have an expressive function as a communication language. An icon language may be helpful for infants, who cannot read, to develop language forming ability and creativity, and can be a supplementary means to communicate voice language to those with hearing disability, which communicate using only visual information. It may also be used in effective communication with foreigners using foreign languages. Previous research on icon languages applied Korean grammar as it is to icon languages, so sentences were complicated and it was difficult to convey meanings intuitively. To resolve these problems, the present study designed an icon language so that sentences are simple and easy to understand by adopting the expression method of sign language. It established the grammatical rules of the icon language and, under the rules, composed important expressions with icon sentences. In addition, the study suggested a number of auxiliary expressions to make clear the meaning of sentences that are communicated. However, it is still a difficult task to design icon images fit for representing meanings. Another task is to solve the ambiguity of sentences when words, which are not important in conveying meanings, are omitted for the simplicity of sentences. This study was focused on grammatical design of icon language. The icon language grammar designed is expected to contribute to the practical use of icon language in the future.
