사용자 인터페이스의 일관성이 사용성에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구

Abstract

인터넷 상의 웹사이트의 숫자는 기하급수적으로 늘어나고 있다. 그만큼 사용자들에게 주어지는 선택권이 점점 늘어난다는 것을 의미한다. 사용자를 혼란스럽게 하거나 욕구를 충족시켜주지 못하는 사이트에서 더 이상 시간을 허비할 이유가 없어진 것이다. 다양한 선택권이 주어지고 쉽게 다른 사이트로 갈 수 있게 됨으로써 사용자들은 즉각적인 만족을 원한다. 처음 방문한 사이트에서 빠른 시간 안에 어떻게 사용하는지 파악하지 못하면 시간을 허비할 까닭이 없다고 판단하고 즉각 떠나버린다. 이런 의미에서 사용성의 문제는 과거에 비해 인터넷에서 그 중요성이 훨씬 높아졌다. 이에 본 연구에서는 사용성의 문제, 특히 일관성(Consistency)의 문제에 대해서 살펴보고자 한다. 일관성은 인터페이스의 사용편리성 측면에서 볼 때 아주 중요한 고려 대상이다. 화면전체에 걸쳐 일관성 있는 화면배치와 명령어 이름, 그래픽 언어를 갖는 인터페이스는 사용자의 학습곡선을 완만하게 해주는 것이다. 일관성 있는 인터페이스는 이미 학습된 사실을 적용 가능하게 해주고 네비게이션을 쉽게 해줌으로써 사용자들이 다른 문제에 신경 쓰지 않고 본인이 원하는 작업에만 집중하게 도와주는 역할을 한다. 이러한 의미를 지니는 인터페이스 일관성이, 다양한 서비스를 제공하여 사용자가 머무르는 시간을 길게 하고 원 스톱(one-stop) 서비스를 제공하려는 포탈사이트에도 적용되고 있는지 살펴보며 인터페이스 일관성이 지켜지지 않을 경우 실제 사용자가 어느 정도 불편함을 느끼는지 연구하였다. 연구결과 다양한 인터페이스의 일관성 요소 중 실제 포탈사이트에서 빈번하게 무시되어지는 인터페이스 요소들을 추출해 낼 수 있었는데 사용자가 실제 불편함을 많이 겪는 요소들을 중심으로 우선순위를 정할 수 있었다. 사용자를 위해 지켜져야 할 일관성의 우선순위는 다음과 같이 나타났다. (1) 로그인 (73%) (2) 도움말 (70%) (3) 검색창 (67%) (4) 배너(광고) (54%) (5) 액션버튼 (50%) (6) 현재위치 표현 (47%) (7) 메뉴바(네비게이션) (44%) (8) 링크방식 (41%) (9) 화면크기 (33%) 그리고 일관성을 유지하는 다양한 방법 중 사용자는 아래와 같은 요소들에 강한 인상을 받는 것으로 나타났다. (1) 위치 (42%) (2) 형태 (29%) (3) 크기 (19%) (4) 컬러 (11%) (5) 이름 (6%) (6) 폰트 (4%) (7) 기타 (13%) 9가지 요소마다 약간씩 다른 결과를 보이긴 했지만 대부분의 사용자들은 화면상의 위치에 제일 민감하게 반응한다는 결과가 나왔기 때문에 우선 위치에 대한 일관성을 유지하는 방법부터 적용할 수 있다고 볼 수 있다. 결론적으로, 포탈사이트에서 제공되어지는 다양한 서비스들과 그 서비스의 다수를 아웃소싱하는 현실에서 일관된 인터페이스를 유지하기란 쉽지 않은 일이긴 하지만 본 연구에서 조사한 일관성 요소들을 보다 사용성에 영향을 많이 미치는 요소부터 순차적으로, 적절한 방법을 사용하여 적용한다면 보다 사용성이 향상될 것이라고 볼 수 있다.

Various option and easy access to other site, users demand more instant satisfaction. If the first visiting site can not give quick direction, users will just leave without any second thought not wanting to waste any time. In this reason, importance of usability is more strengthened than before. Therefore, this research would like to take a look at the matter of consistency. The Consistency is the most considerable fact for usability of interface. The Interface, which has all same layout, and graphic language on entire screen, make gentle curve line on user's study. And the consistency makes possible to apply studied fact and make easy navigation so that users can concentrate on the work without taking other matters. So, we studied if the consistency of interface can be applied on portal site, which provides various services to keep users staying longer and give one-stop service, and users feel inconvenience in case this interface doesn't keep the consistency. It result we found frequently disregarded factors among various factors of interface on portal site, and especially inconvenient factors on users are more limited. We summarized and get the following conclusion. First, The login form. It should be represented identically on the same site. Especially, the location on screen, shape and size is strongly recognized and if this part is kept consistency, usability will be much improved. Second, search form. Same as login, it's represented consistently on same site and usability can be improved with identical application of the location on screen, shape and size. The last, help service. It's also represented consistently so that users can easily get help when they are confused. In case of Help, the variety of location, shape and naming cause confusion to users so adequate consistency will give improvement of usability. In the bottom line, it is not easy to keep consistent interface in various services on portal site and outsourced this services; however, above mentioned core factors are affected to practical usability and need adequate consistency.
