잭슨폴록의 회화를 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

복식은 인간의 내적 이미지를 표출하는 예술의 한 부분으로 셈퍼는 '인간이 장식을 위한 의복을 만들 줄 알게 되었을 때 비로소 예술의 기초가 이룩하였다' 며 말하였다. 또한 1960년대의 아트웨어 운동은 순수예술을 지향하는 추상적인 현대 예술과의 실질적인 교류 속에서 일어난 것으로 복식에도 현대미술 작품이 시사하는 예술적 가치를 내포하고 있음을 보여준다. 복식의 예술성은 동기가 실용성에 있다는 것을 제외한다면 인간과 인간생활을 주제로 하는 점에서 회화, 조각과 같은 다른 조형예술과 일치한다. 모두 그 시대가 추구하는 개념을 표현하려는 의지는 동일하나 단지 미를 표출하는 방법만이 다를 뿐이다. 본 연구는 현대인의 패션에 대한 관심을 예술의 한 분야인 회화의 조형성을 응용하여 패션 섬유소재의 개발을 통해 독창적인 의상디자인을 전개가능성을 제시하는데 있다. 특히 추상표현주의의 회화의 중심에 있는 잭슨 폴록의 새로운 화법과 표현방법을 도입하여 단지 회화, 그 자체의 모방을 통한 개발이 아니라 예술성과 실용성을 적절히 조화시켜 패션 섬유 산업을 활성화하는데 그 의의를 둔다. 연구의 내용과 방법은 자연의 재현이 아닌 작가의 내면 세계를 존중하는 추상 표현주의에 대해 살펴보고 잭슨 폴록의 회화작품을 시대별, 표현방법별로 나누어 연구 분석을 하였다. 새로운 필요가 새로운 기법을 요구한다. 라는 폴록의 작품의도와 현대회화의 '기존의 장에 대한 무한한 확장'이라는 행위를 복식분야에 접목시켜 엉클어진 실타래형상을 작품의 모티브로 8점의 소재개발과 이를 활용한 의상작품을 제작하였다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 추상표현주의는 1940년대 중반에서 1950년대 초반까지 뉴욕을 중심으로 전개된 미국적인 미술사조로서 자동기술법은 초현실주의에서 출발하였지만 "이성에 의한 통제가 없는 것"이 아닌 "의식의 조정을 거치는 자발성의 표현방법"으로 철학적이고 정신적인 새로운 조형의식으로 발전하는 것을 알 수 있다. 둘째, 잭슨 폴록은 짧은 일생동안 세 번의 회화 변화를 가진다. 1940년대 초기 엔 큐비즘과 초현실주의의 자동주의기술법을 차용하여 원시적이며 구상적인 회화를 하였으나 1947년에서 1950년 말까지는 드리핑 기법을 통하여 신체의 개입 방식이 작품의 리얼리티를 결정하는 회화를 창조한다. 말년기에는 캔버스의 공간을 결정하는 전통적인 회화로 전향하였다. 따라서 각 시대의 특성에 따라 그의 회화는 선과 점, 색채를 통해 다양한 마띠에르로 표현되며, 이는 서로 다른 의상 디자인 및 소재개발로 전개할 수 있다. 셋째, '회화'라는 예술장르가 디자이너들의 실험 정신과 창의력을 토대로 의상에 응용됨으로서 의상이 실용적인 상품 뿐 아니라 인체 위의 예술로 승화될 수 있음을 문헌과 자료를 통해 알 수 있었다. 또한 폴록의 회화는 드리핑이라는 독특한 조형적 형식으로 인하여 현대의상 직물에서 다양한 기법을 통해 소재로 표현되고 있음을 사례를 통해 되었다. 넷째, 디자이너가 회화작품의 이미지 및 조형성 중 무엇에 초점을 두는가에 따라 다양한 결과를 얻을 수 있음을 작품제작을 통해 알 수 있었다. 이런 수공예적인 기법으로 제작이 되는 의상은 작업과정에 따라 즉흥적이고 자유롭게 형상을 달리 할 수 있는 예술적 직감을 표현할 수 있다. 다섯째, 잭슨 폴록의 작품의 특성인 선의 형상을 표현하는 오브제로 실과 리본 등이 효과적이며 이에 알맞은 바느질 기법은 누비기 기법으로 사료된다. 특히 용도와 재질에 구애받지 않고 다양하게 사용한 실은 원단의 화면을 풍부하게 하였으며 누빔의 간격과 방향의 조절은 화면의 구성에 도움이 되었다. 새로운 예술은 그 시대의 사회적 변화에 따른 의식의 변천으로 새로운 가치를 지니게 된다. 폴록은 '그림을 그리는 것은 자기발견'이라는 표현을 사용하였다. 그런 끊임없는 자기발견을 통해 그의 회화는 새로운 가치를 지니게 되었다. 의상 역시 디자인에 있어 다양한 주제 발상 및 효과적인 전개, 아트 페브릭의 개발을 통해 오뜨-꾸띠르적 상품화로 보다 나은 패션산업미래를 위한 가치창조와 동시에 패션이 예술의 한 분야로 확고히 정립이 될 수 있길 기대한다.;Clothing is a part of the art expressing the intrinsic image of humans. Semper said "It was not until man could make clothes for decoration that the foundation of the art was set up". Moreover, the art wear movement of the 1960's took place through the substantial exchange with abstract modern art intending to the pure art. This shows that clothing also has an artistic value suggested by modern art. With the exception of practicality as a purpose, the artistic value of clothing is accordance with other formative arts like paintings and sculpture in the respect of handling human being and human life. Without the exception, the intention to express the concept that the times pursues is identical, but the only difference is the way of expressing beauty. The purpose of this study is to present the developments-possibility of the creative fashion design with the exploitation of fashion fabric by applying the modern's interest in fashion to the formative arts. Especially it is important to introduce a new art of drawing and expression of Jackson Pollock, a representative of the abstract-expression art, not as a development of a copy as itself but as a harmony with artistry and practicality to activate the fashion-textile industry. The substance of this study is as follows. The abstract-expressionism which respects not the reappearance of the nature but the artists' inside, is researched and Jackson Pollock's works are classified & analyzed by time and the way of expression in this study. "a new need demands a new technique", Pollock's intention of the work and " infinite expansion of existing part", an act of the modern art are applied to fashion part, and 8 piece of developed fabrics and clothes are made with the motive of tangled skein. The conclusion of making fabrics & clothes are as follows. First, the abstract expressionism is the american trend of art appeared from the middle of 1940's to early 1950's in New York. Though the automatism started from surrealism, it is not "the thing without the control by reason", but the way of expression of spontaneity adjusted by consciousness. And it develops to a new philosophical and spiritual of formative consciousness. Second, Jackson Pollock has three changes in his paintings throughout his short life. In early 1940's, his paintings were primitive and figurative by using automatism of Cubism and Surrealism. However, from 1947 to the late 1950's, he created the paintings that the method of intervention of body concluded the reality of the work by "dripping method". In his last few years, he turned to traditional paintings decided the space of the canvas. Therefore, according to the characteristic of each period, he painted with a dot, line, and sides and expressed various material. And this can be expanded into fashion design and fabric development. Third, through documents and data, by applying the genre of paintings to fashion on the basis of experimental spirit and creativity, clothing is practical products, and also sublimes the art over the human body. Besides for the unique formative form as "Dripping method", there are many cases of the paintings of Pollock expressed in modern fashion clothes by various techniques. Fourth, according to a designer whether he focuses on the image of art or the formative value, various results can be reached. Clothing made by handcraft can show an artistic intuition which can be changed freely and improvisatory on accordance with a making-process. Fifth, to expression of the Line, a characteristic of his works, threads and ribbons are very effective, and Quilting is considered as the right sewing method for them. Especially the various threads used freely without any restriction enriched a fabric as a background, and the interval and direction of quilting helped the composition of the fabric. A new art has a new value by the transition of consciousness due to the change of the society in the period. Pollock said " drawing is a self-discovery" and through this continuous self-discovery, his art has a new value. Hopefully, through various conception and its effective development, and the development of the art fabric, fashion can create a value by the commercialization as much as the quality of haute couture for the future of fashion industry and at the same time can also take a firm position as a part of art.
