미혼부모에 관한 고찰

Abstract

"Unmarried Parenthood", as the society becomes more complicated and diversified, is called to social worker's attention. Although the word "unmarried" right in front of "parenthood" may sound awkward to the ears of some people, it is, however, evident that this is one of the social problems in most of the countries these days. As a social problem and responsibility it requires both a professional group of social workers, psychiatrists, doctors, lawyers, etc., and sympathetic and enlightened public opinion. This thesis is mainly concerned with the general nature of unmarried mothers, unmarried fathers and out-of-wedlock children. Historical background, at home and abroad, and the current situation in Korea are discussed in its first part. Since the need for efficient and creative social workers ability becomes all the more acute, the next part describes the function of social worker in helping clients with their problems. Two case illustrations might hopefully be of value in understanding, actual practice of social worker's role. In the last part I have suggested some measures to reduce and prevent illegetimate pregnancy, and some difficult aspects which are facing the social workers. How the problem is to be met and what can be done to eliminate it are questions to which no one has any final answer. But there are many ways we could take for their solution. It suffices to say that public attitudes, prejudices, responsibility or lack of it determine whether social workers will or will not able to accomplish.
