dc.description.abstractWith a critical investigation of synthetic conditions thus far published on an Ion Exchange Resin (the P-oxy benzyl sulfonic acid-formaldehyde system) the auther was able to synthesize a better resin by the PH control and the choice of combination ratio of the starting materials. The resin has shown a better ion exchange capacity than the conventional ones on market. Theoretically it appears that the more anhydrous sodium sulfite against the amount of phenol the better ion exchange capacity may be obtained. However in fact, the ratio of the compounds for the maximum capacity occupies a definite point as shown in Fig Ⅶ due to its influence on the three demensionai structure of the resin. The best ratio of phenol to anhydrous sodium sulfite was found to be 1 : 0.65 in which the exchange capacity was 2.63meq/g. The addition of sulfuric acid solution in small amount to the liquid resin prior to the conversion to gel-state enhanced the exchange capacity of the resin from 2.63meq/g to 2.95 meq/g. Also the addition of sulfuric acid should be controlled so as to render the PH value 9.6 as seen in Table Ⅱ. Furthermore the sulfuric acid added shortened the period of solidification as a catalyzer.-
