요한복음에 나타난 공동체 의식 연구

Abstract

요한복음에 나타난 그리스도교 공동체에 관한 견해는 신약성서의 다른 곳에서 볼 수 있는 것과는 매우 다르다. 특히 주후 70년 이후에 쓰인 신약성서 문헌에서 발견되는 교회관과 비교할 때 더욱 뚜렷하다. 그리스도교 운동은 초기에서부터 교회의 제도적 성장과 권위의 문제에 대한 관심이 등장하였다. 주후 1세기말경에 저술된 요한복음보다 반세기 전에 기록된 바울서신들에서도 교회라는 용어와 교회 내의 여러 직무들이 언급되었다(고전12:28-31). 또한 마태복음에도 가이사랴 빌립보에서 베드로의 고백 후에 예수께서 하신 말씀(마태16:16-19)은 사도적 권위 위에 교회의 터가 있다는 교회이해가 나타난다. 그러나 요한복음에는 이러한 관심이 전혀 드러나지 않는다. 그럼에도 예수와 공동체의 관계를 표현한 '목자와 양'의 비유, 그리고 예수와 공동체의 관계뿐만 아니라 공동체 구성원들 간의 관계까지 묘사된 '포도나무와 가지' 비유가 나타난다. 이러한 본문들은 요한복음에는 '교회'라는 말이 사용되거나 구원사적인 서술은 없지만 요한공동체가 강한 자의식을 가지고 있으며, 나름의 독특한 교회론적 이해를 가지고 있다는 견해에 충분한 증거를 제공하고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 요한공동체의 형성과정과 그 삶의 자리를 밝힌 선행연구들을 먼저 다루었다. 먼저 역사비판에 입각해 요한공동체의 발전과정을 통시적으로 연구하는데 초석을 놓은 루이스 마틴(J. L. Martyn), 그리고 요한공동체의 발달을 단계적으로 재구성한 레이몬드 브라운(R. E. Brown)의 연구를 다루었다. 또 동시대 다른 집단들과의 관계를 다루는 공시적 차원의 연구로는 지식사회학적 방법론을 통해 박해와 소외라는 요한 공동체의 특수한 상황을 밝힌 웨인 믹스(Wayne A. Meeks)를 고찰했다. 다음으로 고대에 존재했던 '학파'(School)들과 유사점을 연구한 컬페퍼(R. Alan ulpepper), 다른 초대 교회들뿐만 아니라 비정통적 유대교와도 논쟁을 통하여 자신들을 지키려한 일종의 종파(Circle)로써 요한공동체의 성격을 설명한 쿨만(O. Cullmann)을 다루었다. 이러한 요한공동체의 선행 연구들은 공동체의 독특한 경험을 밝혀 주었고 이로 인한 요한의 신학적 특징을 잘 설명해 주었다. 다음으로 본 논문은 요한공동체의 자의식이 가장 잘 반영된 요한복음 본문을 주석하였다. 10장의 '목자 담론'에는 무엇보다도 그리스도와 공동체 간의 개별적이고 인격적인 앎의 관계가 나타나며, 15장의 '포도나무 담론'은 그리스도와 생명적으로 하나 된 요한공동체의 자의식이 잘 드러나는 본문이다. 그리스도와 공동체의 이러한 관계는 사랑을 바탕으로 한 명령과 순종의 관계이며, 이는 그리스도와 하나님과의 관계에서 이미 모범이 된 것이다. 요한복음에 나타난 이러한 공동체의식은 요한의 교회론이 무엇보다도 그리스도론에 뿌리는 두고 있다는 것을 알게 한다. 본 논문에서는 요한복음에 나타난 그리스도와 요한공동체의 독특한 관계에 대한 표현이 교회라는 용어를 직접적으로 사용한 것보다 더 심오한 교회론적인 의미를 나타낸 것이며 이는 오늘의 교회 현실에서도 추구해야하는 교회의 본질임을 말하고자 하였다. ;The use of the terms which related to church and the word "church" itself had been widely found in the documents which had been composed of New Testament in the 1st century. The Gospel of John, however never presented the term "church" itself as well as the terms of sacraments nor the official organization of the church. Nevertheless, John's community explained its close relationship with Jesus through the parable of "shepherd and sheep", and described their relationship as "the vine tree and the branch". Those expressions were not exactly accord with the concept of the ecclesiology, yet presented the peculiar understanding of John's community about the church. The verses which has included those understandings provided the enough evidences that John's community had its own identity as Christian community and unique understandings of the church, even though the Gospel itself didn't mention "church" itself. This thesis supports that John's community had its strong consciousness as a Christian community, which represented special understandings of its community. First, this thesis treats the theories of the five scholars who have pervasively influenced on the study of the Fourth Gospel. J. L Martyn had provided the basic understanding of the origin and its development of John's community with his synchronic method on the basis of historical criticism. R. E. Brown reconstructed the phases of John's community of four levels. Each phase had been explained with their characteristics. The third significant fugue who is dealt in this thesis is W. Meeks. Who had explained the suffering and outcast situation of the community with the analysis of sociological tools. A. Cullpepper, who compared John's community with the other so-called "schools" which had widely spread among Ancient society, is also one of the outstanding scholars. Finally, the study of O. Cullmann suggested the sectarian characteristic of John's community. Second, this thesis studies the texts of the Fourth Gospel which reflected the characteristics of the community. The chapter 10 and 15 included the verses which clearly explained the self understanding of the community through the parables of "shepherd and sheep" and "the vine tree and the branch", which mostly focused on the individual and personal relationship with Jesus and the community members. The relationship is a sort of acknowledgement of each other which understood themselves on the basis of love as well as the faith which is related to the life. It also reflected the relationship of the order and the obedience which already represented by the model of Jesus' obedience to God. Concludingly, those characteristics of John's community provided the fact that John's ecclesiology was rooted in its christology. The christology is, in other words, the relationship with Jesus and the community which is almost identical with the relationship of God and Jesus. Which is the most essential thing that the community had pursued and the church today has to follow.
