안토니 가우디(Antoni Gaudi)의 모데르니스모(Modernismo) 건축

Abstract

본 연구는 안토니 가우디(Antoni Gaudi I Cornet, 18525-1926)의 건축 작품에 나타난 모데르니스모(Modernismo) 경향을 고찰한 연구이다. 안토니 가우디의 모데르니스모 건축이란 카탈루냐의 레나이센샤(Renaixenca) 운동과 같은 역사를 배경으로 성립하였다. 그에게 있어 카탈루냐 지역은 그의 건축 미학의 모태가 되었으며 스페인 내에서 카탈루냐어라는 독립된 언어를 사용하는 언어 민족주의 정신과 종교에 대한 열정적인 믿음 역시 가우디 예술의 정신적인 기반이 되었다. 이러한 역사성을 기반으로 한 그의 건축은 당시 유럽 지역의 아르누보(Art Nouveau)의 영향을 받아 현대적인 카탈루냐 스타일의 발견과 국민적 현대성을 양립시키려고 함이 그의 모데르니스모 건축의 목표인 것으로 볼 수 있다. 가우디는 다른 유럽 지역에서는 볼 수 없는 카탈루냐 지역의 지리적, 역사적 배경을 토대로 기독교와 이슬람교의 지배가 동시에 존재함으로써 남겨지게 된 ‘무데하르(Mudejar)' 양식과 이슬람 경유로 전해진 세라믹 타일과 같은 지방적인 조건에서 출발하여 카탈루냐만의 독자적 스타일을 얻어내었으며 당시 아르누보 건축의 국제적이고 보편적인 가치를 받아들여 혁신적인 건축 미학을 창조할 수 있었다. 또한 비올레 르-&#46245;(Viollet le-Duc)의 구조 합리주의에 근거하여 자유로운 골조를 가지고 곡선과 곡면의 유기적인 형태를 다채로운 타일, 도자기와 금속 파편으로 장식한 개성적이며 독특한 양식을 전개시켰다. 이러한 가우디의 건축적 특징은 자유롭고 선적인 흐르는 듯한 형태를 3차원의 표현적인 건축형태로 재창조함으로써 현대 건축의 표현적이고 초현실적인 건축적 경향을 예시했다고 할 수 있다. 본고에서는 가우디의 모데르니스모 건축 양식에 있어서 첫 출발이라고 할 수 있는 무데하르 양식과 비올레 르-&#46245;의 합리주의 이론의 영향을 받은 특징들을 살피고 이 후 <구엘 성지의 납골당(Crypt at Colｏ´nia Gｕ¨ell)>과 <성 가족 성당(Sagrada Familia)>에서 수곡선 기법을 적용함으로써 가우디만의 독창적인 모데르니스모적 양상을 연구하고 있다. 가우디의 모데르니스모 건축의 완성이라 할 수 있는 <카사 밀라(Casa Mila)>와 <카사 바틀로(Casa Batllo)> 작품에서 그는 곡선형과 유동적이면서도 유기적인 건축 외관을 추구하였으며 이러한 표현의 원천을 순수 자연에서 찾았다. 그러나 가우디는 순수 자연적 소재를 사용함에 있어서 있는 그대로의 자연을 차용하는 것이 아니라 이들을 추상적이면서 상징적인 의미화 작업을 거쳐 비정형화 시키고자 노력하였다. 이와 같이 본 논문에서는 카탈루냐 조건에 얽매여 자신의 민족주의 정신성을 다시 세우고자하였던 가우디의 모데르니스모 건축이 결과적으로 그것을 초월하여 절대적인 평가의 대상이 되었음을 밝히고 있다. 역사적으로 한정된 상황 속에서 지방적인 과제를 중심으로 연구하여 그것을 깨닫게 되면 시대를 초월한 보편적인 가치에 도달할 수 있게 됨을 건축가 안토니 가우디의 연구를 통해 알 수 있는 것이다.;This thesis is based on extensive research of Antonio Gaudi's architectural work that reflects patterns of Modernismo. Gaudi's Moderismo architecture is founded on Catalonia's historical background, and RenaixenＣ¸a movement. At a time of cultural and political renaissance in Europe, Gaudi looked to many sources of inspiration for his work. Catalonia region, Nationalism, passion for the religion, the Art Nouveau movement, and the glory of nature influenced Gaudi's work significantly. The purpose of Moderismo architecture is well presented throughout Gaudi's work. Gaudi's work not only showcases discovery of Catalonia's modern style but also reflects national modernism. Gaudi's work has his own unique style. His style of work could not be found in any other region in Europe because Gaudi's work projects Catalonia's regional and historical characteristic. Gaudi's work reflects Mudejar. In Gaudi's work, both elements of Islamic art and Christian art were emerged. The dominant geometrical character, distinctly Islamic, emerged in the accessory crafts: tilework, brickwork, wood carving, and ornamental metals. Gaudi's work was also influenced by Viollet le-Duc's. Viollet le-Duc emphasizes the structurally organic and rational quality of Gothic edifice. Gaudi developed a sensuous, curving, almost surreal design style while he was satisfying Viollet le-Duc's structural quality. Gaudi was a pioneer in his field using color, texture, and movement in ways never before imagined. This thesis focuses on both Viollet le-Duc and Mudejar. Viollet le-Duc and Mudejar are important attributes of Morderismo. Extensive research of Viollet le-Duc and Mudejar is inevitableto understand fundamental of Moderismo. This thesis also contains study of many of Gaudi'swork. Crypt at Colnia Gel and Sagrada Famlia has Gaudi's own sensuous, and curving design thatreflects Moderismo. Casa Mila and Casa Batollo showenergy, curves, and organic based upon nature. Gaudi created a paradox in both of his work. Nature is one of the fundamental sources of Gaudi's work. However, Gaudi did not simply portrait nature into his design. He modified his sources and transformed them into his own design. Even though Gaudi's work seemed influenced by limited sources due to historical and regional circumstances, Gaudi overcame obstacles and created an entirely original style. Although Gaudi's work is categorized with the Art Nouveau, Gaudi created his own unique style from many different sources of the world.
