성령의 열매 형상화에 관한 섬유조형 표현

Abstract

종교와 예술은 역사적 측면에서 그 기원을 같이 하고 있으며, 비록 그 형식은 다를지라도, 정신의 본질인 사유를 통한 동일한 내용에서 시작되고 있다. 특히, 예술을 인간의 '창조적인 상상력'을 기반으로 한 자유로운 '창작행위'로 설명할 때, 그것은 기독교의 '창조주', '창조성'과 더 큰 연관성을 가지게 되며, 이 때의 창작행위는 인간과 하나님 사이에 형성되는 '모상성(模像性)'에 기초하게 된다. 이와 같은 관점에서 볼 때, 기독교 예술가의 경우, 인간의 창조성을 바탕으로 한 다양한 예술 형식 속에는 하나님 중심의 신앙을 바탕으로 한 객체의 이해와 세계관이 내포되어 있으며, 하나님이 준 창조적 능력과 재능을 통하여 하나님을 찬양하고 경배할 때 진정한 창조적 사명을 완성하게 된다. 나아가 하나님에 기초를 두고 있는 삶의 단면을 예술 작품으로 표상해 나감으로써 종교와 예술이 창조적으로 융합된 작품을 제작하게 된다. 따라서, 본 연구자는 기독교인으로서, 그리스도인의 삶 속에 나타나는 하나님의 성품인 성령의 열매를 형상화한 섬유조형 작품을 표현하고자 한다. 그 목적은 성령의 열매를 형상화한 섬유조형 작품을 통하여, 기독교 신앙을 작품으로 승화시키는 것이며, 나아가 성령의 열매를 표현함에 있어 섬유예술의 '투명성', '그리드'의 특성적인 면을 연구하여 형상화함으로써, 종교와 예술의 만남을 통해 섬유예술의 표현 영역을 확대하고자 한다. 본 연구는 문헌을 통해 성령의 열매의 의미와 특성을 살펴보았으며, 섬유예술에 나타난 '투명성'과 '그리드'의 표현 실례를 분석함으로써 그에 따른 각각의 조형성이 성령의 열매를 형상화 할 수 있음을 확인하고, 이 두 가지를 성령의 열매의 형상화 방법으로 연구, 제시하였다. 작품제작에 있어서 모든 작품은 반투명 폴리우레탄 테이프을 주재료로 사용하여 평직으로 제직하는 것을 기본으로, 사각의 형태 안에 그리드를 공통적으로 형성하였으며, 사용되는 재료의 색상과 질감을 달리함으로써 각각의 성령의 열매의 특성을 형상화하였다. 상기의 연구를 토대로, 성령의 열매를 형상화한 6점의 작품을 제작하였으며, 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 성령의 아홉 가지 열매는 그 유사성에 따라, '사랑과 희락', '화평', '오래참음과 온유', '자비와 양선', '충성', '절제'의 여섯 가지 테마로 분류하여 표현할 수 있었다. 둘째, 투명성으로 인한 1.가벼운 조형미, 2.중첩 효과, 3.확장된 공간, 4.빛과 그림자 효과는 형이상학적이고 초월적인 성령의 임재와 영혼 가운데서 시작되어 삶의 구체적인 모습들로 투영되어 나타나는 성령의 열매를 형상화하기에 적합하였다. 셋째, 그리드의 1.구조적이고, 2.추상적이며, 3.반복적인 조형성은 끊임없이 혼돈에서 질서를 창조하는 성령의 사역과 그로 인해 형성되는 비가시적인 성령의 열매를 상징적으로 표현하기에 적합하였다. 넷째, 작품의 주재료로 사용된 1cm 너비의 반투명 폴리우레탄 테이프는 1.투명성으로 인한 다양한 조형 효과를 만족시켰을 뿐만 아니라, 2.평직으로 제직되었을 때에 그리드를 형성하였고, 3.신축성이 뛰어나 제직하기에 용이하였으며, 4.제직 후에 다른 재료를 첨가하기에도 용이하였다. 다섯째, 설치에 있어서, 1.벽면에서 일정한 거리를 두어 공중에 설치한 경우 벽면에 퍼지는 그림자 효과를 통하여 작품의 투명성을 강조시킬 수 있었고, 2.동일한 크기의 아크릴 박스를 벽에 설치한 경우 그리드의 규칙적이고 반복적인 이미지를 부각시킬 수 있었으며, 3.투명성을 지닌 여러 겹의 피스를 넓은 공간 안에 배열한 경우 중첩의 효과를 극대화함으로써 보는 각도와 방향에 따라 다양한 분위기를 형성할 수 있었다. 이러한 과정을 통해 도출된 결론을 기반으로 앞으로도 성령의 열매를 더욱 효과적으로 형상화하는 조형적 방법을 지속적으로 연구, 발전시키고자 하며, 기독교 가치관과 신념이 표출되는 섬유예술 작품에 관한 연구가 체계성 있게 확대, 전개되길 기대한다. ;The religion and art has its origin together, and even though the format might be different, the core reason for contents starts in same reason. When art is explained as an 'act of creative thoughts' based on the term of 'creative imagination', it has more correlation with Christianity in terms of 'creativity' and 'divine creator' which is closely based on the 'image' between God and human. Looking at from this kind of perspective, in case of a Christian artist, the diverse art form based on creativeness of human has God-centered faith which brings the understandings of the object and philosophy which lies underneath, and through the talent and capability, praise and worship God. This brings out the work of combination with religion and art. Therefore, the current researcher, as Christian, want to express the fruit of the Spirit which is a character of God that lives within Christian lives. The objective of this study is through, fiber art works, sublimate the faith into a work of art, and furthermore, expressing them in characteristics of transparency and grid of fiber art, and this is to enlarge the area of presenting the religion and art through fiber art. Current research covered the characteristics of the meaning of the fruit of the Spirit, and analyzed the transparency and grid characteristics which is shown in fiber art through actual examples, and presented different means of forming of the fruit of the Spirit for the methods of approaching the topic. In producing, all works have been made through semitransparent polyurethane tape as main material to produce into plain fabrics, and formed grids into a square shape. By using different colors and stuff, formed the characteristics of the fruit of the Spirit. Through the above statements, produced 6 pieces of work based on forming of the fruit of the Spirit, and the results are as following. First of all, the fruit of the Spirit was able to be expressed according to the similarity into six theme of 'Love & Joy', 'Peace', 'Patience & Gentleness', 'Kindness & Goodness', 'Faithfulness' and 'Self-Control'. Secondly, through the transparency of 1. light beauty of models 2. effects of reiteration 3. enlarged space 4. the effects of light and shadows well showed and was suitable expressing the metaphysical and transcendental characteristics of Holy Spirit's presence and soul which can be related to expressing the form of the fruit of the Spirit. Thirdly, the grid's 1. structural 2. abstract 3. repeated characteristics of format was suitable in showing the Spirit's work of building order in the midst of continuous chaos, and showing the invisible with the fruit of the Spirit. Fourthly, the 1cm width, semitransparent polyurethane tape used as the main material, was 1. not only satisfied the different modeling effect through transparency 2. but also formed grid when weaved with plain materials. 3. made it easy for weaving through its flexibility 4. made it easy to be added to other materials after weaving. Fifthly, in installing, 1. in case of installation up in the air with fixed distance away from the wall, the transparency of the work was stressed through the shadow effects which lie across the wall. 2. when installed with same sized acryl box, the regular and repeated image can be shown 3. in case of arranging many layers of piece in a large space, the reiteration can be maximized which creates diverse atmosphere from all angles and directions of view. Based on the conclusion of this study, I would like to continuously research and develop the modeling method that shapes the fruit of the spirit more effectively. In addition, I expect the study on the fiber art from which the christian view and belief is expressed to be enlarged and unfolded more systematically.
