코끼리 Image의 도자표현 연구

Abstract

자연은 끊임없이 예술가들의 表現對象이 되어왔다. 즉 나름대로 무한한 표현가능성을 보여주었고 인간의 造形意志로 인하여 여러가지 방법으로 표현되어 왔다. 이런 자연을 통한 인간의 창조활동은 작가의 주관에 따라 각자의 개성적 美學에 의하여 표현을 다르게 하고 있다. 또 시각적으로 비추어지는 단순한 자연에 그치는 것이 아니라 더 본질적인 특성에 접근하여 공감할 수 있는 形態를 추구하는 것이다. 본 연구는 동물중에서 우선 네발 달린 동물로 범위를 축소시켰고 다시 초원에 사는 동물로 범위를 한정시켜 그 중에서도 뚜렷한 특징을 갖고 있는 코끼리로 선정하여 진행되었다. 그러므로 본 연구의 목적은 코끼리이미지를 조형화 함으로서 멸종의 위기에 직면해있는 코끼리에 대한 새로운 시각을 제시해주고, 코끼리이미지의 구체적인 표현에서 점진적인 단순화를 통해 무조건적인 모방이 아닌 대상물이 갖고 있는 구조적 특징을 살리면서, 단순한 형태로 재형성하여 새로운 이미지를 보여주고자 한다. 이론적인 배경으로는 코끼리의 生物學的 特徵과 造形的 特徵을 알아보고, 이미지에 대한 一般的인 意味와 예술에서 창출되는 이미지의 槪念을 살펴 코끼리이미지의 조형성에 도움이 되고자 하였다. 또한 다른 동물 이미지의 조형작품 事例들을 고찰하여 작품제작에 참고가 되고자 하였다. 표현 방법으로는 코끼리의 이미지를 부각시켜주는 요소를 긴 코로 보아 코를 중심으로 省略, 除去, 追加, 變化, 强調등을 동한 단순한 표현으로 디자인과정을 전개시켜나갔다. 작품제작방법에 있어서는 석고형을 이용한 泥奬注入 技法으로 하였는데, 이는 코끼리가 리더 암컷을 중심으로, 밀접한 혈연관계가 있는 어미와 미숙한 새끼들로 구성된 가죽단위로 생활하므로 코끼리는 무리를 이루는 동물이라는 이미지를 나타내기에 적절한 반복성형의 잇점을 활용한 것이다. 胎土는 요업개발의 자기토를 사용하였고, 각 작품형태의 특징에 맞게 이장에 안료를 혼합하여 다양한 효과를 나타내었으며 유약은 분무법과 담금법으로 시유하였다. 이에 본 연구자는 코끼리이미지를 造形化 함으로써 일반사람들에게 코끼리에 대한 인식을 새롭게하는 契機가 될 것으로 기대하며, 코끼리이미지의 단계적인 변화를 통해서 새로운 질서를 찾아 독자적인 형태로 발전시키고, 주관적인 시각으로 재구성하여 創造的인 이미지를 제시하고자 하였다.;The nature, itself, has been one of the most popular subjects for artists to express. That is, it showed its own grate potential capability to be expressed and it also has been expressed in variety ways by the formative desire of artists. The results of these creative activities have been shown different aspects with respect to the artist's subjectivity and his/her character. Furthermore, beyond the simple view of the nature itself, artists try to approach and see the essence of the nature and pursue the sympathetic performance. This study focuses on the animals with four legs which live in the plain, and especially selects the elephant as a subject to be expressed because of it's distinctive apperance and feature. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to show some new image and perception of the elephant not by simply imitating it's apperance but by abstractly simplifying and restructuring the subject's image. This study, firstly, investigates the biological characteristics of the elephant and then reviews the general notion of the image and the notion of artistically created image that is created by artistic activities. With these things and notions are tied together as a theoratical background, it was much helpful to form the new image of the elephants. The long nose was taken as a representative image of elephants. This was simplified and step-wise designed through ommision, elimination, addition, transfiguration and accent. The slip-casting technique using the gypsum mold was used to produce ceramic form. This technique is proper to repetative formative operations and it fits to describe the group nature of elephants, that is the elephant builds a family and live together centered by a mother elephant. Ceramic soil for slip produced by Yo-Up GaeBal was used and various effects were tested by appropriate stain on slip according to forms and traits of individual works. Finally, spraying or dipping method was adapted on the glazing operation step. This study developed and restructured the unique image, step-wise, in terms of the subjective point of view and rules. Also it is expected for the people to have a new vision for the elephant.
