隱喩的 表現의 理解에 關한 一硏究

Abstract

Metaphor has appeared to be a topic for developmental psychology in recent years. Present study is, first, to analysis the correlation between metaphor comprehension and cognitive accomplishment;second, to examine the effect of pictures in the presentation of metaphor. This is based on preceding studies as follows: Billow divided metaphor into similarity metaphor and proportionality metaphor(including proverbs) and he considered metaphor comprehension as a type of classificatory behavior which Piaget considered as a sign of operational thinking. A few of investigators like Billow, Gentner, Honeck etc. claimed the pictures describing metaphor were effective in metaphor comprehension. Under this consideration, four tasks; for examining level of similarity metaphor comprehension, classificatory ability(as a sign of concrete operational thinking), proverb comprehension(proportionality metaphor)and combination ability(as a sign of formal operational thinking), wene included in this study. Of course in the tasks of metaphor conprehension, it was practised two ways, that is, one is with picture, the other is without picture. For this, 10 kindergarten childrens, 10 second graders, 10 fourth graders, 10 sixth graders, 10 sencond graders of middle school and 10 sencond graders of high school were selected as subjects. As materials, 3 pictures for the task of combination ability and 20 pictures of metaphor seutences were selected from Billow's materials, preschool children's picture books and proverb dictionaries for children. Each subject was tested individually. The results are as follows: 1) There was a significant correlation between similarity metaphor comprehension and concrete operational thinking.(p＜.001) 2) The pictorial condition in the task of similarity metaphor comprehension was effective.(p＜.001) 3) There was a significant correlation between proverb comprehension and formal operational thinking.(p＜.001) 4) The pictorial condition in the task of proverb comprehension was effective.(p＜.001) This study seems to have some limitation in its attempt, first, it was impossible that the task of classilcation ability practised to 6 years. The question that the impossibility was caused by selecting the similarity metaphor sentences was not clear, so further study is needed to investigate this problem. Second, the mumber of subject was small, third, the degree of difficulty among proverbs was not equal. This attempt, however, seems to be valuable because the results supplement and confirm the results of preceding studies in the unsettled area.;은유에 대한 발달심리학적인 측면에서의 연구가 시작된 것은 근래의 일이다. 본 연구에서는 은유의 이해정도와 인지발달 단계간의 상관을 규명하고, 은유의 제시 방법에서 그림의 효과를 알아보려 하였다. 왜냐하면 첫째, Richard A. Billow는 은유의 이해를 분류적 행동으로 보아, Piaget의 이론에 의한 조작적 사고와의 관련을 주장하였으며, 둘째, 그림은 은유의 이해를 쉽게 하여준다는 Richard P. Honeck등의 결론에 터한 때문이다. 이러한 목적으로 6세에서 17세까지의 60명의 피험자에게 유사성 은유문장의 이해, 분류화 능력, 속담의 이해, 조합 능력을 알아보는 실험을 하였다. 물론 은유문장의 이해에 관한 실험은 말로만 제시한 경우와 그림도 수반한 경우를 분리하여 실험하였다. 도구로서는 아동용 그림책에서 뽑은 유사성 은유문장 3개와 선행연구에서 쓰인 문장 9개, 그리고 아동용 속담풀이 책에서 뽑은 속담 12개가 그림으로 그려진 것과, 조합 능력을 알기 위한 3장의 그림이 쓰여졌다. 실험은 개별적으로 실시되었으며, 자료처리는 상관도를 알기 위해서는 원점수에 의한 상관계수와 partial correlation을 산출하였고, 차이를 알기 위해서는 원점수에 의한 통계 처리를 하였다. 결과는 모두 CR값이나 t값을 구하여 유의도를 검증하였다. 다음은 본 연구의 결과이다. 1. 유사성 은유문장의 이해와 구체적 조작 사고 간의 상관은 의미로운 것으로 나타났다.
