한지 염색을 통한 종이의상 연구

Abstract

In the Present age, each formative art has begun to emphasize on formative aspects by which self-expression and originality inherent in the artist can be showed as a new material and method. As for the fashion, along with the introduction of its diverse materials and expression-techniques, fashion has been recognized as not only its functional aspect but also a medium for expression of formative arts. That is, modern fashion has begun to be interested in the capability for aesthetic and formative expression on active human body. Following the above, unique and diverse new materials and techniques have brought the expansion of work-domain of modern fashion designers who'd like to express unique formative quality. In this study, with paper as a new material for modern formative arts, paper clothing was created. Specially among various papers, Korean paper was used. As for the method, dying which can serve for free expression was employed and as for the theme, Minhwa(Korean Folk painting) which has our own unique formative quality was chosen. As for the theoretic background, in the first chapter, formation process and current situation of paper and paper clothing which attract attention in the current formative arts domain through the examination of paper clothing. In the second chapter, concept and characteristics of Minhwa and its formative characteristics were investigated through generally considering Minhwa. As for the production process of works, first, Minhwa which can be properly represented on the paper clothing was chosen and its formative charateristic was analyzed. And then, with its formative beauty, paper clothing which was expressed on Koream paper through dying was created. All together, 8 works of practical paper clothing were created, what follows is the result of this study. First, Jum-chi technic which is our own transformative technic of korean paper was employed and as a result, it could be developed as a unique texture material. Second, for the expression of Minhwa on clothing, through the transformation and simplifying process, the formative beauty of Minhwa was in accordance with Korean paper and thus, it conformed to the recreation of tradition. Third, as for the expression technique of Minhwa, dying was thought to be appropriate, wax-resistant dying and airbrush dying made it possible to draw as much as one wish, and color brought the effect as expected. Fourth, in order to make paper clothing be general and practical, reinforcement of paper quality is needed. Although treatment after dying, free from fuzz, prevention from tearing-damage, waterproof treatment, was effective to some degree, further study is needed. Through the above results, it was found that paper material could be developed more diversely in the modern clothing, and It is desired that new paper clothing works would be created through further deep research and development.;현대에 들어와서 각 조형예술 분야는 새로운 재료와 기법으로써 작가의 내재적 자아표현과 독창성이 나타날 수 있는 조형적 측면을 강조하기 시작하였다. 의상에 있어서도 다양한 소재와 표현기법들이 대두되면서 의상을 기능적인 측면만이 아닌 조형예술 표현의 매체로써 인식하게 되었다. 즉, 현대의상은 움직이는 인체위에서 얼마만큼의 미적, 조형적 표현을 할 수 있느냐는 점에 관심을 가지게 되었다. 거기에 따라 독특하고 다양한 새로운 소재와 기법들이 나타나기 시작하면서, 독창적 조형성을 표현하고자 하는 현대의상 작가들의 작품영역은 날로 넓어져 가고 있다. 본 연구에서는 현대 조형예술에 있어서의 새로운 소재중의 하나인 종이를 가지고 작품을 제작하여 보았는데, 종이중에서도 한지를 사용하였다. 기법으로는 자유로운 표현이 가능한 염색을 이용하였고, 주제는 우리고유의 독창적 조형성이 깃들여진 민화를 선택하였다. 본 연구의 이론적 배경으로서, 첫번째 장에서 종이의상에 대한 연구를 통해 현대 조형예술분야에서 크게 부각되고 있는 종이와 종이의상의 기원과 발달 및 현황에 대해 살펴보았고, 두번째 장에서는 민화의 일반적 고찰을 통해 민화의 개념과 특징, 조형적 특성에 대해 알아보았다. 작품 제작과정에 있어서는, 먼저 종이의상에 적절히 표현될 수 있는 민화를 선택하여 조형적 특성을 분석한 후, 한지위에 염색을 이용하여 그 조형적 미를 표현한 종이의상을 제작하였다. 작품은 종이의상 실물 제작 8점이며, 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론을 서술하여 보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 우리 고유의 한지 변형기법인 줌치법을 이용하였는데 그 결과 부드러우면서도 질긴 독특한 질감의 소재로 발전할 수 있었다. 둘째, 민화를 의상에 표현함에 있어서 변형과 단순화과정을 통하여 민화의 조형적 미가 한지와 잘 접목되어 전통의 재창조라는 측면에 부합될 수 있었다. 셋째, 민화의 표현방법에 있어서 염색이 가장 적합하다고 판단되었는데, 초방염법과 에어브러쉬염법은 원하는 형태를 마음대로 그릴수 있었으며 색상 또한 기대한 만큼의 효과를 나타낼 수 있었다. 넷째, 종이의상이 보편화와 실용화 되게끔 하기 위하여 종이재질의 보강이 필요한데, 우선 염색후 처리, 보푸라기 방지, 찢어짐에 의한 파손방지, 방수가공을 시도하여 어느정도의 효과를 보았으나 더 많은 연구가 필요하다 하겠다. 이상의 결과를 통하여 현대의상에 있어서 종이소재가 더욱 더 다양하게 개발될 수 있음을 알아보았으며, 앞으로도 많은 연구와 개발을 통하여 새로운 종이의상 작품이 제작되었으면 한다.
