博物館展示의 計劃과 그 過程에 관한 硏究

Abstract

Reflecting cultural demands of citizens in the modern era, museums consolidated their roles as public institutions and expanded their functions to meet the needs of public mass education. As public facilities for mass education, more emphases are placed on functional aspects of display activities of museums. Through the medium of displays, a museum expresses the results of its internal researches, and conveys to the public viewers the intended informations on the matters of interest. Also only through displays, the general public can recognize the existence of museums, appreciating their valuable activities. As more importances are being placed on the display function of museums, active interests shown by the general public as well as museum custodians on the subject have stimulated the pursuance of more proper methods and adequate means for museum displays. The pursuit of appropriate methods for museum displays denotes improvement of standards in both substantial and physical aspects of display plannings. As regards the substantial aspect on the one hand, it implies pursuits for efficacious utilization of multifarious items and materials for more meaningful displays in accordance with presupposed intention. As regards the physical aspect on the other hand, it signifies the efficient utilization of various display techniques made available by modern technologies and the creation of more pleasant display environment for effective communication. Accordingly, the harmonious coordination of these two aspects is crucially important for successful museum display plannings. There arise needs for theoretical approaches for rationalization of systematic planning processes and creative application of display techniques. Therefore, upon defining functional roles of museum displays in modern sense, this study tried to elucidate general planning processes required for satisfactory museum displays with a view to presenting desirable patterns of methods for Planning ende-avours. This thesis dwells on the following points of discussion. Firstly, the roles and functions of museums are reviewed in historical perspective, thereby focusing new light on the functional significance of the present day museum displays for public mass education. Secondly, based on the communication theory which serves as a general theory for all types of displays, special features of museum displays are commented on to emphasize the differences from others. Thirdly, those elements which constitute essential parts of museum display plannings are identified with a view to clarifying their concepts and significances. Fourthly, planning processes of museum displays are observed in two respects : the substantial aspect and the physical aspect. Terms and conditions necessary for successful displays are identified for those elements constituting the basic conceptual plannings which comprises the substantial aspect and for those elements constituting the display environmental plannings which comprises the physical aspect. Fifthly, criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of museum displays are presented in order to determine the efficacy of the museum display plannings itself. The following recommendations are presented as the major conclusions of this study: 1) The purpose of intended displays should be conceived clearly in advance reflecting the interest of the presupposed public desirable through systematic research efforts. 2) An appropriate planning organization should be instituted in order to accomodate the participation of curators, designers and technical experts both within or within or without who can help bring special know-how and mobilize proper outside services. 3) Display items should be collected and the related informations assorted to serve clearly the established purposes of displays. 4) Research should be conducted to classify display items and materials into a meaningful system of informations with a view to facilitating intended communication between the museum and the viewing public. 5) Designings of display environment should draw on research results of physiological and psycological studies in order to promote communication effectiveness by creating pleasant spatial environment. 6) Aesthetic considerations should be drawn to all aspects of display plannings. 7) Proper training facilities should be instituted to ensure a steady supply of competent specialists on museum displays for the future expansion of museums in Korea.;現代社會에 들어오면서 박물관은 社會的 變化에 따른 時代的 要求를 받아들이면서 점차 박물관의 내·외적인 역할의 확대와 그 기능상의 정비를 기하게 되었다. 즉 박물관은 社會的 公共施設로서, 學術的 硏究機關으로서의 위치를 굳히게 되었고 大衆敎育을 目的으츠하여 一般市民에게까지 公開를 확대하였다. 그리고 이러한 추세들은 결론적으로 博物館에서 展示機能이 차지하는 비중을 크게 확대하기에 이르렀다. 즉 전시를 통해 박물관 內部的으로 硏究된 결과를 발표하고 展示된 資料를 利用하여 관람자에게 智識과 情報를 제공하며, 한편 一般大衆들은 展示를 통해서 박물관 활동에 접할 수 있고 그 필요성을 확인하게 되는 것이다. 이와 같이 展示의 비중이 높아지자 최근에는 박물관 관계자 및 일반시민의 展示에 대한 관심과 기대도 함께 높아지고 있으며, 이러한 社會的 要求에 부응하는 보다 적합한 展示의 方法과 형태를 추구하게 되었다. 이 적합한 전시의 방법과 형태는 전시의 內容的인 측면과 物理的인 측면의 양쪽에 대한 개선과 수준의 향상을 의미한다. 現代의 博物館 展示에 요구되는 것은 內容的인 측면에서는 과거의 단순나열이나 實物爲主의 진열에서 벗어나 뚜렷한 전시의 목적과 意圖를 내세워 다양한 展示資料의 活用에 의한 보다 효과적인 展示를 추구하기에 이르렀으며,物理的인 측면에서는 科學技術의 성과를 이용하여 여러가지 展示技法과 수단의 동원이 시도되고, 또한 보다 쾌적한 展示環境을 造成하는데 모든 노력이 기울여지고 있다. 따라서 이와 같은 兩面의 조화가 앞으로 박물관 전시에 있어서 중요 과제이며 이에 따라 이것을 실제로 실현하는 방법으로서 박물관 展示의 理論的 확립과 計劃過程의 合理化 및 조직화와 展示技術의 창조적 활용의 문제가 제기되고 있다. 本 硏究는 이와 같은 배경에서 出發하여 博物館 展示가 목표하는 바를 현대적 意味로 해석하고 그것을 合理的으로 수행할 수 있는 방법의 하나로서 博物館展示의 計劃과 그 과정을 살펴봄으로서 현대적 개념으로서 博物館 展示가 요구하는 바람직한 방법과 형태를 제시하여 보고자 노력하였다. 그리고 一般的인 計劃上의 원칙들과 展示의 一般理論을 토대로 하고 거기에 博物館 展示의 특수성을 결합시키는 시도로서 本 硏究의 大要와 구 체적인 進行方法은 다음과 같다. 첫째, '박물관 전시의 理論的 고찰'에서 博物館의 歷史的 변천과정을 통해 現代 博物館에서 차지하는 展示의 의의와 역할을 재조명하고, 둘째, 展示의 一般理論인 Communication論에 입각하여 다른 一般展示와의 차이점을 검토하므로서 博物館 展示의 특수성을 고찰하였으며, 세째,博物館 展示의 計劃에 있어 展示를 構成하는 要素들을 고찰하고, 그에 대한 개념 및 특성을 살펴보았다. 넷째, 실제 전시의 계획단계를 展示의 內容的인 측면과 物理的인 측면으로 분류하여 前者를 展示의 基本構想단계로, 後者를 展示環境計劃단계로 나누어 그 과정 및 計劃조건들을 살펴보았으며, 다섯째, 結論的으로 展示完成후에 전시를 평가할 수 있는 검증기준점을 제시하므로서 現代 博物館 展示가 요구하는 바람직한 展示의 형태를 확인하고자 하였다.
