Richard Long 작품에 관한 연구

Abstract

현대산업사회에서의 자연과 인간과의 관계회복의 일환으로써 예술을 통해 자연과 친밀하고 직접적인 교감을 이루기 위해 노력해온 Richard Long은 어떤 방법으로 자연과 상호관계를 맺어왔으며 그의 작품은 어떤 조형적 특성을 지니고 있는지 알아볼 필요가 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 R.Long의 작품을 분석하여 그 조형적 특성을 규명하는 데 있다. 본 연구의 내용은 R.Long의 작품을 실외작품과 실내작품으로 나누어 실외작품은 자연환경속의작품과 도보자체를 표현한 지도의 글배열로, 실내작품은 자연요소의 실내배열과 도보거리의 내부공간화로 구분하여 분석하고 그 특성을 규명하였다. 본 연구의 방법은 문헌, catalogue, 미술잡지 등의 선행연구와 작품을 기본도구로 하였다. 작품표집은 R.Long작품의 조형적 특성을 규명하기 위하여 1965년부터 1985년까지의 작품중 그 특성이 적절히 표현된 총70점을 대상으로 목적표출하였다. 자연환경속의 작품에서는 공간, 형태, 재료구성방법을 관점으로 분석하였고, 도보작품중 지도에서는 형태, 제작방법, 공간, 시간, 속도, 운동을, 글배열에서는 표현내용을, 자연물의 실내배열에서는 공간, 재료, 형태, 질감, 구성방법을 관점으로 분석하였다. R.Long의 작품을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 재료는 자연과 깊은 교감을 이룰 수 있는 다양한 자연의 풍경요소로서 전혀 가공되지 않은 상태로 사용되었고, 형태는 基本的이고 原形的인 단순한 기하학적 형태이다. 2. 자연환경속의 작품은 수평적구조로 구성되어 장소의 환경적 특성이나 예측키 어려운 자연의 물리적 환경변화까지 공간과 형태로 수용하며, 현장에서 직접 제작되어 자연의 循環的인 환경속으로 다시 동화되어 가도록 방치되기에 循環的, 流勳的, 一時的인 시간성과 공간성및 非定形의 특성을 보이며, 원시적인 image의 재료와 형태로 현재의 시간을 뛰어넘는 공간을 이뤄내 현대와 과거의 유대를 강화시켰다. 3. 도보자체의 경험을 표현한 작품은 육체를 도구로 자연환경을 재료로 제작되며, 지도작품은 장소의 지형, 도보자의 걸음속도, 걸음의 형태에 따라 변화되고 결정되는 시간, 공간, 속도, 운동의 경험을 지도위에 부과하였다. 글배열작품은 웅장한 scale의 도보나 장소에 대한 섬세한 감각과 실질적인 도보의 느낌 등 공간의 質을 사실적이고 함축적인 단어의 배열로 표현하였다. 4. 실내작품은 실외도보의 경험에서 유추되었고 실외작품을 생생하게 전달하려는 의도로 제작되었기에 실외작품의 변형, 형상화 작업이라고 볼 수 있다. R.Long의 작품은 모두 도보를 基底로 이루어지고 육체를 도구로 사용하며 경제성 및 간결성의 특성을 보인다. 그는 도보를 통해 자연과 친밀하고 직접적인 교감을 이뤄낸 작가로서 자연, 인간, 예술을 통합시켜 날로 황폐화 되어가는 현대문명속의 인간의 마음을 멀리 떨어진 자연의 장소로 이끌어 인간이 자연의 일부임을 자각시키려고 노력하였다.;In attempt to revive the alienated relationship between the human being and the nature, it is deemed necessary to find out R.Long who has endeavored to arhieve the intimate and direct rapport bound up with the nature through art if what kind of method he has exercised to maintain the inter-relationship with the nature and if what kind of formative pecularities his works are possessed with. The objective of this study is intent to examine his formative characteristic through conducting the analysis on the works of R.Long. As for the contents of this study, according to the peculiarity of his works, by dividing them into outdoor works and interior works, a series of classification was made on the outdoor item that would be also divided into the work among natural environment and the map expressing a posture of walking and writing works, while the interior items were analyzed through dividing an indoor arrangement of nature element and the providing of interior space for walking distance as to examine its characteristic. The survey method of this study was instrumentalised by its relevant bibliographies, catalogues, the precedent research and works of fine art magazines, etc. As for the sampling of the works, in order to examine the formative peculiarities of R.Long, an analysis was performed on sampling the total of 70 items that were properly expressed in Its peculiarity as the subjectitive samples among his items of worits from 1965 to 1985. The findings of anaiysing the u·orks by R. Long are given as follows: 1. The materials were used as diversified landscape elemerts of the nature that could achieve a deep rapport with the nature in the state of being utterly unprocessed form, and the shape was the form of basic and origirlal as well as simple geometrical type. 2. The uorks among the environment of the nature were installed in horizontal structure. By taking in to consideration of adopting them in space and form for eithor the environmental characteristic of place or as far as to a hardly-predictable physical environmentally physical change of the nature, they were directly manufactured on the spot site. In order to leave them to be assimilated into the circulative environment of the nature, as showing off the peculiarities of circulative, flowing, momentary time and space-wise non-fixed type, the relationship of the current times and the past were designed to be strengthened by making the space that would jump over the present time in primitive material and form. 3. The map work was realistically imposed on the varying time, space, speed and the experience of motion or movement depending on geographical features, walking speed and the form of walking. The work for arranging letter was expressed in realistic and implicative arrangement of letter for the quality of sprce such as a delicate sense of either walking and place of indescribablly grandiose scale and substantial feeling of walking with only utilizing a photograph. 4. Because of the fact that the indoor worts were analogized from the experience of outdoor-working, with the intention of vividly conveying outdoor works, the transformation of outdoor works and figuration work were hardly considered to be such things. The works of R.Long is consisted of the basis for walking, and it showed the characteristic of economization and simplicity. He is the artist who achieved intimate and direct rapport with the nature through walking, and by integrating the nature, human being and art, he endeavored himself to arouse the very fact that it should be a human being as to be a part of the nature through convoying the mind of a human bema among the contemporary civilization that has been desolaiting day by day to a distant place of the nature.
