가족기능이 청소년 인터넷 중독에 미치는 영향 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 Circumplex Model을 토대로 가족의 기능이 청소년 인터넷 중독에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보았다. 인터넷 중독과 관련한 변인을 밝힘으로써, 인터넷 중독을 예방할 수 있는 사회복지 개입을 위한 기초적 자료를 제시하는데 연구목적을 두었다. 본 연구에서는 서울시에 위치한 중학교에 재학중인 남·여학생을 407명을 연구대상으로 하였으며, 이들의 가족의 적응력과 응집력을 측정하기 위하여 FACESⅢ(Family Adaptability Cohesion Evaluation ScaleⅢ)와 부모와 자녀 사이의 의사소통 정도를 측정하기 위하여 청소년용 PACI(Parent-Adolescent Communication Inventory)를 사용하였다. 인터넷의 중독 정도를 알아보기 위해 Young이 개발한 측정도구를 사용하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS을 이용한 기술통계, t-test, 일원변량분석, 상관관계, 회귀분석을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 여학생보다는 남학생이, 저학년보다는 고학년이, 그리고 인터넷 사용기간과 이용시간이 길고 많을수록 청소년의 인터넷 중독적 사용이 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 가족의 적응력·응집력은 인터넷 중독과 상관관계는 있으나, 인터넷 중독에 영향을 미치는 변인으로는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았다. 하지만 부모와 자녀사이의 의사소통은 유의미한 영향력을 미치는 것으로 조사되었다. 즉, 부모와 자녀 사이의 의사소통 정도가 낮을수록 인터넷의 중독적 사용이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 부모와 자녀 간 의사소통의 하위변인인 개방적인 의사소통과 역기능적인 의사소통은 인터넷 중독과 상관관계를 나타내었으나, 역기능적인 의사소통만이 통계적으로 유의미한 영향력이 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 청소년 자녀가 인터넷을 중독적으로 사용하는 가족에 대한 개입시는 가족의 기능을 향상시킬 수 있어야 하며, 이를 위해서는 가족체계 변화의 초석이 되는 의사소통 능력을 증진시킬 수 있는 프로그램을 개발되어야 한다. 특히 남학생 및 고학년을 대상으로 한 프로그램이 개발되어야 하지만 저학년부터 조기 예방 교육을 실시하는 것이 바람직할 것이다.;This study aims to find how family functioning influences on internet addiction among middle school students. For the purpose of the study, the impact of family functioning (i.e., family cohesion, adaptability, parent-adolescent communication) on internet addiction is examined based on Circumplex Model. Four hundred seven middle school students in Seoul were recruited and completed questionnaires. FACES Ⅲ (Family Adaptability Cohesion Evaluation Scale Ⅲ) was used to measure the adaptability and cohesion and PACI (Parent-Adolescent Communication Inventory) were also used to measure the degree of communication between participants and their parents. For the degree of internet addiction, a scale developed by Young was used. Data analysis method included descriptive analysis, t-test, one way ANOVA, correlational analysis, and backward multiple regression. The main results of this study are as follows. First, male participants tended to be more addictive to internet than did their counterpart females, and the higher grade they were than did their counterpart females, and the higher grade they were in the school and the longer they used internet, the severer they tended to be addicted to internet. Second, although the adaptability and cohesion of the family had negative correlational relationship with internet addiction, they were not statistically significant predictive variables in multiple regression analysis. Rather, the degree of communication between participants and their parents was a statistically significant variable for internet addiction. That is, the more the family had open communication, the less the participant had internet addiction. The results indicates a program development for prevention of internet addiction by enhancing communication between adolescents and their parents, particularly for males and those in the lower grades. Implication for social work practice and policy were discussed.
