미시적(微視的)관점으로 본 깃털 표현

Abstract

According to the needs of the times, the rapidly changing modern societies are getting accustomed to something newer and more original than before, and by extension, something more shocking. Arts is no exception and it is making unprecedented attempts with what it expresses and the techniques it uses. In the midst of these attempts, we believe that the efforts made to keep the universal truth and tradition alive are meaningful. In case of artworks whose motif is a particular subject matter, that subject matter is directly linked with the theme of the artworks and the artist's viewpoint of the subject matter determines the theme. What form the viewpoint are a sentiment, environment , and a conception and they tell us about the individual. In line with this, we have first examined adaptability and cyclical principles as a natural object that are directly linked with the life-supporting system of birds through biological functions of feathers. Our essential approach to and analysis of birds until they lose mature feathers tell us that no life in nature has been created by accident and that they all follow certain laws and patterns of nature in which they play their given roles. Secondly, we construed the subject matter of feathers as a symbol of nature from a microscopic point of view. A microscopic viewpoint is one in which one looks into an object as if though a magnifying glass and analyzes factors in detail. Feathers from a microscopic viewpoint are not construed as something trivial that one often runs into and overlooks in everyday life, but rather an emblem that shows the grave truth of nature--creation and destruction. It is based on thoughts that arts and nature are inseparably related and that beauty of art is created by adding the intrinsic value of nature and sublimate it in art. While the viewpoints that interpret the cyclical principle of creation, growth, and extinction may also vary depending on thoughts that form the individuals, in this study, we look at the cyclical principle from the viewpoint of creationism through our Christian thoughts. Thirdly, we researched microscopic expressions and trend in arts and performed the comparable analysis on our own work, centered around the artworks of Hyper Realism both at home and abroad . Ink was used in order to realistically express the visual amusement that the delicate appearance of feathers give when viewed from a microscopic viewpoint and the perception of feeble feathers. Focusing on each and every fuzz that makes up the shaft rather than just on the overall shape of the feathers indicates the deliberation on the truth that one often takes for granted and overlooks. Because of its own quality, silk (nobang) is effective in bringing out the touch of feathers. Together with ink, it is a traditionally used material that brings Korean beauty to life, on which the touch of feathers can be expressed in harmony on strands of fabrics woven of feathers. Three-dimensional space is created, because of uniform space formed between faces that are formed over the frames, and through this, we have expressed the sense of floatability of mobility and simultaneity through variety of feather shapes, together with transparency as the fundamental. Overlapping of faces, colors, and feathers is an attempt made to overcome the fixation of time and space and is a major technique used in artworks. We have tried to express the effects of collectivity displayed through close association of mutual modification and intervention together with the sense of mobility arising from overlapping of faces. We have also tried effects of visual color mixing with the use of small distinct points of primary colors. In these methodologies used, we have placed emphasis on effective expression of the touch of feathers centered around the haracteristics of silk (nobang), and have looked into the characteristics of the repetitive patterns and the meanings of our own work. We have also considered the future direction and the ways to overcome the limitation placed in visual expression of the meanings feathers have.;급속도로 변화하는 현대사회는 시대적 요구에 따라 평범한 것 보다는 새롭고 기발한 것, 더 나아가 충격적인 것을 받아들이는 것에 익숙해지고 있다. 예술분야 역시 기법이나 내용에 있어 파격적인 시도가 이루어지고 있는 가운데 보편적 진리와 전통을 이어가려는 노력은 의미가 있다고 본다. 특정소재가 모티브인 작품의 경우, 소재는 작품의 주제와 직결되며 작가가 소재를 바라보는 관점은 주제를 결정한다. 관점을 형성하는 것은 개인의 정서와 환경, 사상 등으로서 각 개인을 말해준다고 할 수 있다. 이에 따라 본인은 내용적 연구로 첫째, 새에게 있어 깃털이 갖는 생물학적 기능을 통해 새의 생명유지와 직결되는 자연물로서의 적응성과 순환적 원리를 살펴보고자 한다. 성숙한 깃털이 새의 몸에서 떨어져 나오기까지의 본질적 접근과 해석은 자연 속에서의 생명체가 결코 제 멋대로 생성된 것이 아니며 주어진 역할을 다하는 일정한 순리와 패턴을 따른다는 것을 알 수 있게 한다. 둘째, 사물에 대한 미시적 관점을 통해 깃털이라는 소재를 자연의 표상물로 해석하였다. 미시적 관점이란 어떠한 대상을 마치 돋보기로 들여다 보듯이 요소를 자세히 분석하여 보는 관점을 말한다. 미시적 시각에 따른 깃털은 일상 어디서든 쉽게 접할 수 있고 지나치게 되는 하찮은 존재가 아닌, 생성과 소멸이라는 자연의 엄숙한 진리를 보여주는 상징물로 해석된다. 이는 미술이 자연물과 함께 불가분의 관계이며, 자연의 내적가치를 부가하여 승화시키는 것이 예술미라는 사고가 바탕이 된다. 생성과 성장, 소멸의 순환적 원리를 해석하는 관점 역시 개인을 형성하고 있는 사상을 바탕으로 차이를 보일 수 있는데 본고에서는 본인이 가진 기독교적 사상을 통하여 창조론적 시각으로 바라보고자 한다. 아울러 세번째로 예술분야 속에서의 미시적 표현과 경향을 조사해보고 극사실주의 경향의 국내외 작가들의 작품을 중심으로 본인작품에서의 의미와 비교, 대조하여 분석해 본다. 방법적으로는 깃털의 미시적 관찰을 통해 노방에 깃털의 섬세한 외관이 주는 시각적 유희와 가볍고 나약한 털의 느낌을 최대한 표현하고자 사실적 묘사를 수묵으로 표현하였다. 깃털의 전체적 형태에 국한하지 않고 축을 이루는 깃대를 구성하는 잔털 하나하나에 집중하는 것은, 당연하고 사소하게 지나치는 진리에 대한 숙고의 의미이다. 노방은 자체의 특성으로 인하여 깃털의 느낌을 살려주는데 효과적이며 수묵의 묘사와 함께 한국적 미를 살릴 수 있는 전통적 재료임과 동시에 실이 짜여진 조직위에 털의 느낌이 조화롭게 표현될 수 있는 재료이다. 또한 투명성을 기본으로, 틀을 통해 형성되는 면과 면사이의 일정한 공간으로 인해 3차원의 공간이 형성되는데 이를 통하여 깃털의 다양한 형태를 통한 운동감과, 동시성으로 인한 부유감을 표현하고자 한다. 또한, 면과 색, 깃털의 중첩은 공간과 시간의 고정화를 극복한 시도로서 작품에 있어 주요한 기법으로 사용되는데 면의 중첩으로 인해 동적느낌과 더불어 상호수정과 간섭의 긴밀한 결합을 통해 나타나는 집단성의 효과를 나타내고자 하며, 색점에 의한 시각혼색의 효과도 응용해 보도록 하겠다. 이처럼 방법적 측면에서는 노방의 특성을 중심으로 깃털의 느낌을 효과적으로 표현하는데 주력하고, 반복적 패턴이 갖는 특징과 본인작품에서의 의미를 밝혀본다. 또한 깃털이 보여주는 의미를 가시적으로 표현함에 있어 나타나는 표현적 한계를 극복할 방안과 나아갈 방향을 작품분석을 중심으로 고찰해 보고자 한다.
