출애굽기를 통해본 조형적 이미지 연구

Abstract

This paper is an expressive study formed by a visual image of the repetitive creases which represent the life in the desert of the Exodus. Main objective of this study focuses on sharing impression and biblical messages by means of visualizing Christian emotion which was provided with biblical meditation. Since the twentieth century, expressive methods and forms in a Christian art have changed along with social and cultural development. Previous Christian artists simply tried to express events or content in the Bible. On the other hand, current trend diversifies artists' expressive methods, material. and content, abstractly presenting their internal emotions. Therefore. the writer has tried to obtain and express independent formative skills and methods in her works. However, the author realized that a fundamentally profound study is necessary to be conducted, before representing these formative expressions as an artist. The writer studied historical changes of the Christian art through the relationship between Christianity and art. In addition, characteristics and expressive forms of the Christian art were analyzed by transmitted routes and developed procedures of it. Moreover, the writer investigated images that were shown through long journey and events from the life in the desert during 40 years. A unit form and repetitive concept were also defined. The writer analyzed formative properties of the repetition in a modern art. The writer mainly studied abstract images like wave of the Red Sea, pillars of cloud and fire, manna and a quail, and endless path of the desert on which the Israelites wandered. Furthermore, the author concentrated on expressing images by words of God, desire, bless, sin and praise. Creases were selected in order to provide images effectively in works. Wrinkles in a face present suffering from the life and society through a person's times. The author merely collected simplified images like suffering, process of the life, formative images of the repetitive curves. By using Korean papers and clothes, the writer tried to express troubles between God and a human, God's concern about the Israelites, and their mind to God. The angle, distance, height, direction, and depth of color have effects on unification, circulation, times, rhythm and image expansion to the external space, in terms of formative expression of the wrinkles. The writer tried to show plane Korean papers and clothes of the embossed shape. This study gave an opportunity to retrieve the relationship between God and the writer through life in the desert of the Israelites. This study also has an importance in improving and deepening the author's artistic world through continuous image research of the Bible.; 본 연구는 성경 출애굽기의 광야생활 가운데 나타나는 이미지를 주름의 반복을 통하여 가시적인 이미지로 형성한 표현연구이며, 본 연구의 목적은 성경 묵상을 통하여 부여받은 기독교적 감성을 시각화하여 성서적 메시지와 감동을 나누는데 있다. 20세기 이후 시대의 변천과 문화의 발전에 따라 기독교 미술에서도 표현 방법과 양식이 변화했는데 기독교 예술인의 작업에 있어서도 성경의 사건이나 내용의 기록적 측면을 넘어서 작가의 내면적 감흥을 추상적으로 표현하며 그 내용과 표현방법, 재료에 있어서도 다양화되고 있다. 본인의 작업세계에 있어서도 본인만의 조형적 방법과 언어를 획득하고 표현하기 위해 고민하고 노력을 기울여왔다. 그러나 이러한 조형적 표현에 앞서 기독교 미술을 해나감에 있어서 기독교 미술에 대한 근본적인 목적과 깊이 있는 연구가 선행되어야 함을 느꼈다. 따라서 본인은 기독교와 예술의 관계 속에서 기독교 미술의 시대적 변천을 알아보고 우리나라에 기독교 미술이 전래되어온 경로와 발전과정을 통하여 기독교 미술의 특성 및 표현유형을 분석하였다. 또한 40년 광야생활의 긴 여정과 사건들을 통하여 보여지는 이미지들을 살펴보았으며, 단위형태와 반복의 개념을 정의하고, 현대미술에서 보여지는 반복의 조형적 특징을 분석하였다. 출애굽기의 광야생활을 표현하기 위해서 광야생활 가운데 보여지는 홍해적 파도, 구름기둥과 불기둥, 만나와 메추라기, 이스라엘 민족이 걸었던 반복되고 끝없는 사막길과 같은 이미지와 하나님의 율례와 법도, 소망, 복 주심, 죄, 찬송 등의 추상적 이미지에 관심을 기울이고 그 이미지들을 작품에 효과적으로 도입하기 위한 표현기법으로 주름을 선택하였다. 얼굴의 주름은 그 사람이 살아온 세월과 과정을 보여주는데 이러한 주름이 의미하는 인간고(人間苦)나 사회상(社會相)을 떠나 단편적인 의미인 고통, 삶의 여정, 반복적인 곡선(~)의 조형적 특징만을 표집하였으며 주름 표현이 용이한 순지와 천을 재료로 하여 광야생활의 긴 여정과 고통 가운데 하나님과 인간사이의 갈등, 이스라엘 민족을 향한 하나님의 마음, 하나님을 향한 이스라엘 민족의 마음을 표현하고자 하였다. 주름의 조형적 표현에 있어서는 주름의 각도, 간격, 높이, 방향, 색의 농도에 변화를 주어 통일성, 순환성, 시간성, 리듬감, 외부공간으로의 화면확장 등의 효과를 얻고자 했으며. 평면의 순지와 천을 부조적인 형태로 표현하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 이스라엘 민족의 광야생활을 통하여 하나님과 본인의 관계를 돌아보고 회복하는 계기가 되었으며, 앞으로도 계속적인 성경의 조형적 이미지 연구를 통하여 본인의 작품세계를 더욱 심화 발전 시켜나가고자 하는 데 의의가 있다.
