퀼트 기법에 의한 염색의 부조적 표현에 관한 연구

Abstract

Fiber art has come to attempt the three dimensional expressions like embossment or re1ief for emphasizing the positive spatial effects freed from fixed spatial form, and to aim at expressing the cubic effects of texture. But according to the fact that dyeing as one field of fiber art exists limited only to plane works, it is hard not to feel some deficiencies in expressing the dynamic effects and softness of fiber itself. Therefore, studies on the embossing techniques in fiber art are required. The purpose of this study lies in an attempt to make the embossed expressions of dyeing with quilt techniques, and to represent certain formativity by combining dyed clothes and patchworked ones. For this purpose, each different traditional patterns considered as appropriate ones for the dyed clothes by print or tie dyeing and seasonal images have been applied in accordance with the seasonal theme to induce harmonized and balanced compositions in combining patchworked clothes and printed ones, and finally to express the embossed effects by use of quilt techniques. In making actual works, I have investigated the embossed expressions of fiber art, the origin of traditional quilt or types of it through literary reference at first, and next established the development of art quilt centered on the unfolding of quilt and dyeing as the theoretical background of this study to make certain works that can show the peculiar formativity and embossed effects through combining dyed clothes and patchworked ones. And by analyzing those vorks, I have attained some results as follows; quilt and patchwork techniques are effective for the embossed expression of dyed clothes and representation of their tactile impression, therefore it seems that combination of printed cIothes and patchworked ones can elevate the images of season reciprocally when we choose dyed clothes by print or tie dyeing and traditional patterns appropriately in expressing the seasonal these into an actual work. Also I come to know that dyeing exists as a free medium for representing the expressional will of artist in the field of fiber art. and could experience the free and sincere expressional character of pure hand-aade working applied traditional qui Its. Therefore, I think that we should develop dyeing in more freely space through studies on various techniques and materials, and must continue our working to express the embossed quality of fiber making use of the infinite potential dynamic effects of it.;섬유 예술은 부조 및 환조의 3차원적 표현으로 인하여, 일정한 공간 형태에서 벗어나 적극적 공간 효과를 강조하기 시작했으며, 입체적 질감 효과를 표현하게 되었다. 그러나 염색은 섬유예술의 한 분야로 존재하면서도 평면적 작업에 국한되어 섬유자체가 갖고 있는 동적효과및 유연성에 의한 입체적 표현의 부족함을 느끼지 않을 수 없다. 따라서 염색의 부조적 표현을 위한 기법에 관한 연구의 필요성을 느낀다. 이 연구는 퀼트(QUILT) 기법을 통하여 염색의 부조적인 표현을 시도해보고 염색한 천과 패치워크(PATCHWORK)한 천과의 접목에서 오는 조형성을 나타내 보고자 하는 목적을 갖는다. 이와같은 목적을 위하여 계절적 표현을 주제로 삼아 묘염 및 침염으로 염색한 천과, 계절적 이미지에 적합한 각기 다른 전통 패턴을 응용하여 기존의 날염천으로 패치워크한 천을 접목해, 조화와 균형을 이루는 구성을 유도하며, 퀼트기법의 사용으로 부조적인 효과를 표현했다. 작품제작에 있어서는 문헌을 통해 섬유예술의 부조적인 표현과 전통퀼트의 유래 및 종류에 관해 알아보고, 퀼트의 전개와 염색을 주조로한 아트퀼트로의 발달을 이론적 배경으로 삼아, 염색한 천과 패치워크한 천과의 결합에서 오는 조형성 및 부조적인 효과를 나타내는 작품을 제작, 분석해 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 즉 퀼트와 패치워크는 염색천의 촉각적 질감을 나타내는 부조적인 표현에 효과적임을 인식하고, 계절을 주제로한 작품을 표현하는데 있어 침염 및 묘염으로 이루어진 염색천과 각기다른 전통 패턴을 선택해 기존의 날염천으로 패치워크한 천과의 접목이 상호간에 계절적 이미지를 고조시켜 줄 수 있다는 표현의 가능성을 느끼게 되었다. 또한 염색은 섬유예술속에서 예술가의 표현의지틀 대변하는 자유로운 매체로 존재하며 부조적 표현의 무한한 가능성을 지녔음을 알게되었고 전통 퀼트를 응용한 순수한 수작업(手作業)에서 오는 자유로움과 진솔한 표현의 특징을 체험하게 되였다. 이에 앞으로 보다 다양한 기법과 재료의 연구로 자유로운 공간 속에서 염색을 발전시키고, 섬유가 갖고있는 무한한 잠재적인 동적 효과에 의한 부조적 작업을 계속해 나가야 할 것으로 생각된다.
